Accidental removal of an important program or a system failure can make the smartphone owner panic, but there are a number of data protection mechanisms in the Xiaomi ecosystem. Modern shells MIUI and HyperOS are closely integrated with cloud services, allowing you to return lost software in minutes. Even if you cleared the cart or do not remember the password from the account, there are workarounds that are worth trying first.
Before you start taking action, you need to understand the cause of the disappearance of the file, which could be manual deletion, automatic cleaning by Optimizer or hiding the icon in Second Space mode. Proper diagnosis of the situation will save you time and save you from installing malicious analogues from unverified sources. In most cases, the system stores traces of remote programs in the logs or cache of Google services.
Recovery often depends on whether the program was system or third-party. For standard utilities Xiaomi just check the recovery settings, whereas for games and instant messengers you will need access to purchase history in Google Play. Below we will discuss in detail all available methods, from simple to advanced, including working with backups.
Checking the download history in Google Play Store
The most obvious, but often ignored, way is to refer to the history of the official app store, so even if you delete the program from your device, the installation record remains permanently linked to your Google account, allowing you to download any utility ever installed, even if it no longer appears in the default search.
To access this list, you need to open the Play Market app and click on the profile icon in the upper right corner. In the drop-down menu, select "Applications and Device Management" and then go to the "Management" tab. This is the default setting for installed programs, but if you click on the "Installed" filter, you can change the setting to "Not installed on this device."
- 📱 Open Google Play and go to profile.
- 📂 Select “Apps and Device Management».
- 🔄 Switch the filter to "Not installed».
- 🔍 Find the desired application in the list and click “Install».
⚠️ Note: If the application has been removed from the store by the developer or blocked in your region, the installation button may not be available.
Sometimes the list can be very long, so it's easier to search inside the control tab. Type in the name of the program, and if it's ever downloaded to that account, it'll show up in the results, which is especially useful for recovering old versions of games or specific utilities that you used years ago.
Using the Mi Cloud Cloud Backup
Xiaomi smartphone owners have access to their own cloud storage, Mi Cloud, which syncs settings, contacts and the list of installed applications by default. If App Reservation was active before deletion, you can restore not only the file itself, but also its data, which is critical to preserving progress in games or messenger settings.
To check for backup, go to Settings → Mi Account → Mi Cloud → Reservation. This shows the dates of the last saves. If you see a date prior to deleting the program, you can safely start the recovery process.
Recovery through Mi Cloud requires a stable Wi-Fi connection, as the amount of data can be significant, and once the selection is confirmed, the installation files will start downloading and subsequent installation, and it is important not to interrupt this process and not to block the smartphone screen to avoid corruption of data.
☑️ Testing of recovery preparedness
It is worth noting that free space in the Mi Cloud is limited to 5 GB. If you actively used backup, the space may have run out and the latest data may not have been saved, in which case it is worth checking the "Storage Management" section and, if necessary, free up space by removing old backups of other devices.
Search for hidden system applications
Often users think they have removed an app when it is actually hidden or disabled. There is a Hidden Apps feature in the MIUI shell that removes the icon from the desktop and menu, but leaves the program on the system.
To check for hidden applications, go to Settings → Applications → Hidden Applications (the path may vary depending on the version of MIUI). This section displays a list of programs that are not visible in normal mode. Just switch the switch opposite the desired application to an active state, and the icon will return to its place.
| Type of concealment | Where to find | How to repair |
|---|---|---|
| Hiding the icon | Settings → Hidden applications | Disable the concealment switch |
| Shutdown of the system | Settings → Applications → All applications | Press "Enable" |
| Second space | Settings → Second Space | Switch to profile. |
Another option is to check Second Space, which is to create a separate desktop with your apps and files, and if you accidentally switch to it or create a copy of the application there, and then delete it in the main profile, the program can run in a second space, check between profiles in the settings or through the notification bar.
What is Second Space?
Analysis of APK folder and file manager
When you uninstall applications through standard system tools, installation files (APKs) are usually not deleted immediately if the appropriate option has been enabled in the bootloader or file manager settings. On Xiaomi smartphones, the built-in Explorer often saves copies of installers in a special APK or Installed folder.
Open Explorer and go to Apps or APK, where you can store installation files of recently deleted or updated programs, and if you find the right file, you can run and reinstall the application without accessing the Internet, which is especially true for programs that have been removed from Google Play.
Also, check the Android/data and Android/obb folder. While deleting an app usually clears those directories, sometimes there are tails left behind, such as cache or configuration files, that won't restore the app itself, but can help you figure out which program was removed if you forgot its name, find a folder with a suspicious name and search the Internet for information about it.
⚠️ Note: Do not delete files from folders Android/data and Android/obb manually, if you're not sure what they're doing, it can disrupt other, still-installed applications that use shared libraries.
If a standard search fails, try using the Storage Analysis feature in the Security app (green lightning icon). In the Cleanup section, the system sometimes shows large files left over from remote programs, and the folder name can identify the lost software.
Recovery through notification history and push services
Many users forget that remote applications often leave traces in the notification history, and even after deleting a program, push notifications can be saved in the system log if the Notification Log function is enabled, which can lead to the restoration of the name and even a link to the program.
Go to Settings → Notifications → Notification Log (the path can vary: sometimes you need to turn on Advanced Settings at the top of the screen). Scroll back to the moment before you delete. If you see a notification from a lost program, click on it – often this opens the app page in the store or its web version.
💡
Turn on Notifications log right now, even if you don't need one. It'll take a couple of seconds, but in the future it will help restore access to important services if you accidentally delete their icon.
Also worth checking is Google Play Protection. Go to Play Market Settings, select Play Protection and click on the profile icon. The menu may have a "Last Action" or similar item that shows scans of installed apps. If the program was recently removed, it may appear in the latest scan report.
Advanced Methods: ADB and System Logic
For power users who are not afraid of the command line, there is a method of recovery through debugging over USB and ADB (Android Debug Bridge) utility, which allows you to see the full list of packages ever installed, including those that have been deleted but whose data remains in the system.
To do this, you need to turn on Developer Mode (7 times click on MIUI Version in About Phone) and activate USB Debugging. By connecting the phone to your computer, you can execute a command to output a list of packages. Although you can not directly restore a remote APK through ADB, the command will help you accurately identify the batch name (for example, com.example.app), which will make it easier to find the installer on the network.
adb shell pm list packages -f | grep "name"Using third-party applications for data recovery, such as Dr.Fone or DiskDigger, in the case of remote applications (not photos) is ineffective without root rights. Android strictly isolates the application data, and after deleting and cleaning the cache, it is almost impossible to restore executable code by software without a pre-made backup.
💡
The most reliable way to recover is to back up your data regularly to Mi Cloud or Google One. No “magic recovery” method replaces a pre-built copy of your data.
