Screen recording on Xiaomi smartphones is a useful feature that can be used to create guides, streams, save important moments from games or video calls. However, many users face difficulties when first turning on this option: someone can not find a button in the curtain, someone is recording without sound, and some devices do not support the built-in function. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to enable screen recording on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (including models from 2023-2026), and also explain how to fix errors.
It’s important to understand that the recording capabilities depend on the MIUI firmware version and device model. For example, flagships like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra have advanced settings (recording with a microphone, resolution selection), whereas the budget Redmi 12C may not have a built-in option at all, and we’ll look at options for everything from standard tools to third-party applications.
1. Standard method: recording through the notification panel
The fastest method is to use the built-in button in the notification curtain, which works on most devices with MIUI 12 and later, including the Xiaomi 13T, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and POCO F5.
To activate the recording:
- 📱 Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- 🔍 Find the Screen Record button. If you don't have one, tap the pencil icon (✏️) or “Edit”, then drag the button to the active area.
- 🎥 Press the recording button, and a countdown timer will appear (3 seconds), and then the screen capture will begin.

2. Set up sound recording
By default, Xiaomi blocks the recording of internal sound (from games, music, videos) due to Android limitations, but you can record sound from a microphone or activate system sound through additional settings.
Instructions for MIUI 13/14:
- Open Settings → Special Options → Screen recording.
- Activate the "Record Sound" switch.
- Select the source: 🎤 Microphone – recording your voice (suitable for commenting). 🔊 System sound – sound from applications (not working on all models).
Return to the notification panel and start recording.

By default, the video is stored in the phone’s internal memory along the way:
/storage/emulated/0/Movies/ScreenRecordings/Or in the folder Gallery → Albums → Screen recordings.
To change the storage location (for example, to SD-map):
- 📁 Open the Settings. → Warehouse → Folders.
- 🔧 Find the ScreenRecordings folder and click “Change Storage Location».

If the built-in feature is not satisfied (no sound, low quality, no option), you can use third-party programs.
- 🎬 AZ Screen Recorder – Supports recording with microphone and system sound (requires root or activation via ADB). Download: Google Play.
- 📹 DU Recorder - a simple interface, the ability to stream on YouTube/Twitch. Disadvantages: a lot of advertising in the free version.
- 🎮 Mobizen – optimized for gamers (shows screen taps).

- Install the application and open it.
- Click on the gear icon (⚙️) and select: Permission: 1080p (Bitrate: 12-15 Mbps for good quality. Sound source: Microphone + Systemic sound (required permission via ADB).

⚠️ Attention: Apps like AZ Screen Recorder may not record sound from certain games (e.g., Screen Recorder, PUBG Mobile or Genshin Impact, because of cheating protection, and in this case, only recording from an external microphone will help.
5. Solving Screen Recording Problems
If the recording doesn’t start, lags, or save without sound, try the following solutions:
