Xiaomi smartphones are famous for their functionality, but the standard set of applications does not always cover all users’ needs in spam filtering. Built-in mechanisms for protecting against unwanted calls often work less effectively than specialized services from large technology companies, which is why many device owners are looking to integrate the number detector from Yandex directly into the call system.
The process of activating this feature on the shells of MIUI and the new HyperOS has its own nuances associated with an aggressive policy of saving battery power. The system can independently block the work of third-party applications that determine the number, if you do not give them the appropriate rights. Understanding these mechanisms will allow you to enjoy the silence and tranquility, receiving calls only from really important subscribers.
In this article, we will discuss in detail the algorithm of actions that is guaranteed to run the service on your device, you will learn how to properly configure accesses so that the system does not “kill” the process in the background, and what hidden parameters should be checked first.
Device preparation and application installation
The first step is to install the necessary software. Although many smartphones already have ecosystem services pre-installed, a separate Yandex.Phone app is required to fully work on the determinant. APK-File from a trusted source if the store is not available.
Once you download the installer, start the installation process. Android can issue a warning that the app requests access to contacts and call logs. This is the standard procedure required to check incoming numbers against the service database. Without these permissions, the functionality will be limited to manual search only.
⚠️ Warning: When installing from unknown sources (not through Play Market), be sure to check the digital signature of the file to avoid introducing malicious code into your phone’s security system.
It is important to make sure that the device has an up-to-date version of the operating system. Older MIUI builds may have conflicts with the new APIs the app uses to integrate with the system “caller.” Check for updates in Settings → About Phone → MIUI version before you start fine-tuning.
Once installed successfully, open the app and log in to your Yandex ID account. This is necessary to synchronize your personal contact database and blacklists between devices. Authorization also allows you to use cloud-based features, such as identifying numbers from delivery organizations and services.
☑️ Checking before setting up
Configure access rights and system permissions
The most critical step is to give the application all the necessary rights. Unlike other operating systems, MIUI requires manual confirmation for each type of access, even if the user has given consent on the first run, ignoring this step leads to the fact that the determinant will simply not pop up when the call is made.
Go to the phone settings menu and find the Apps section. Search Yandex.Phone for installed programs. Here you are interested in App Permissions. Make sure Contacts, Phone and Call Log are activated. Status should be "Allowed."
| Type of permit | Necessity | Effects of denial |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | Critically. | It is impossible to match a number with a name |
| Phone. | Critically. | The detector will not work when incoming |
| Microphone | Optionally. | Voice commands won't work. |
| Notifications | It's important. | No notifications about missed spam calls |
Special attention should be paid to access to display on top of other applications. This feature allows the determinant widget to block the lock screen or the interface of other programs at the time of an incoming call. Find in the settings (often through a search for settings) the item “Master on top of other applications” and activate the switch for Yandex.Phone.
It is also recommended that you enable geolocation if you are using the search function of the organizations nearby. Although this is not required for the basic number identifier, the complex operation of the service depends on many factors.
💡
Use a Settings Search (a magnifier at the top of the settings screen) by typing the phrase “above others” to quickly find the desired menu item, which is often hidden in deep submenu.
Integration with MIUI and HyperOS system call
On Xiaomi smartphones, there is often a conflict between Google’s standard Phone app (or MIUI Dialer) and third-party solutions. In order for Yandex to intercept calls, it must be assigned as the main calling app or work in tandem with the system one. In most cases, replacing a standard call is not required, the correct bundle is enough.
Open the settings of the Yandex.Phone application itself. The green indicator should be on in the “Number Defineer” section. If the system says that the service is not active, click on the start button. Android will open the system window where you need to select Yandex as an assistant to determine the number and block spam.
Some versions of the shells require an additional step through the menu. SIM-Go to the Settings path. → SIM-maps and mobile networks → Additionally. → Number detector. Here you'll see a list of available services. Select Yandex from the list. If it's not on the list, go back to the app and try to re-activate the function.
⚠️ Warning: After the operating system updates, the detector settings may reset. Always check the status of service after a major firmware update.
If you have a global firmware version installed, integration may be difficult due to differences in Google certification, which helps to clear the cache of the Phone app (system). Go to Settings → Apps → All Apps → Phone → Memory and click Clear Cache. This will not delete your contacts, but will reset temporary files that interfere with proper operation.
Optimization of the background
The main enemy of any Xiaomi identifiers is an aggressive power-saving system, so that the phone lasts, the OS freezes or completely closes applications that are not in use right now, and for the number detector, it is fatal: if the process goes down, the call will pass without identification.
You need to add Yandex.Phone to exceptions. Open the menu of running applications (bottom-up swipe and hold, or menu button) Find the application window, press it and press the lock. This will lock the application in RAM, but this is not enough to fully protect.
A deeper setup is done via the Battery and Performance menu. Click on the gear icon or go to Advanced Settings. Find Autostart and turn on the switchboard opposite Yandex.Phone. Then go to Background Activity Limits (or Activity Control) and select No Limits mode for our app.
Newer versions of HyperOS include "Memory Extension" and smart memory management. Make sure the app isn't marked as rarely used. If you haven't opened the app in a while (only used a determinant), the system could have given it low priority. Just open the app once every few days to update its activity status.
💡
Without setting up Auto Start and removing battery restrictions, the detector will work unstable, skipping part of the calls.
Typical Problems and Conflicts
Even with the right setup, there can be situations where the determinant stops responding, and often it's a conflict with other applications that have access to telephony, and if you have Truecaller, Kaspersky Who Calls or other determinants installed, they can block each other.
To diagnose the problem, try temporarily disabling other numbering services. Leave only Yandex. If the problem persists, check whether Do Not Disturb or Silent Mode is enabled, which can hide pop-ups. It is also worth checking the notification settings: for Yandex.Phone, "Important Notifications" and call notifications should be allowed.
- 📱 Check if the phone is worth the flight or traffic saving, which can block a database request.
- 🔄 Reinstall the application if configuration files are corrupted after the system crash.
- 🌐 Make sure that there is an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile internet) at the time of the call, as the number check is done online.
Sometimes it helps to reset application preferences. Settings menu → Apps → Three dots in the corner → Reset application settings. This will return all permissions to the factory, so after the procedure you will have to re-authorize access for all programs, but this often resolves mysterious software conflicts.
Setting up spam filtering and blacklisting
One of the key features is not just identifying, but also blocking unwanted subscribers. Go to the application settings under "Antispam" where you can set automatic call rejection options, the system can recognize telemarketing, financial institutions and other categories.
You can create your own rules, like blocking all hidden numbers or numbers that start with certain codes, and then use the Blacklist function inside the app, and the numbers that are added to it will get a busy signal, and you won't even see a missed notification if you set up a cover-up.
⚠️ Warning: Be careful with aggressive filtering settings. Too strict rules can cut off couriers or doctors calling from city numbers that have been hit by databases as "organizations».
Regularly update your spam databases. Usually, this happens automatically, but you can force the updates in your anti-spam settings. Relevance of your databases ensures that new scams are recognized instantly. Timely updates are critical to security.
