How to see the statistics of application usage on Xiaomi Redmi 9: from built-in tools to hidden chips

Have you ever caught yourself thinking that β€œonly 5 minutes” went to TikTok and it’s been two hours? Xiaomi Redmi 9 is one of the most popular smartphones in Russia, but its owners often do not know how to track real time spent in applications. Meanwhile, MIUI hides several tools for analyzing digital habits – from basic statistics to detailed reports by day.

In this article, you will find not only standard ways to check (via Digital Well-Being), but also hidden MIUI 12/13/14 features that work even without root rights. We will break down the system restrictions if statistics are suddenly reset, and show you how to export data for analysis to Excel. And at the end, a bonus: how to set up automatic alerts when you exceed the time limit on social networks.

1. Standard Way: Digital Well-Being in MIUI

The most obvious (but not always accurate) method is the built-in Digital Wellbeing feature, which is available on all Redmi 9s with MIUI 11 and newer, but has nuances:

  • πŸ“Š Shows the time of use per day/week, but does not keep the history longer than 7 days
  • ⏱️ Only counts active time (if the app is open but you are not interacting with the screen, it may not count)
  • πŸ”’ Some system processes (e.g. com.miui.home) may not be displayed in statistics.

To open the report:

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Digital Well-Being and Parental Control
  2. Slip on the chart at the top of the screen
  3. Select the "Applications" tab** for a detailed breakdown

πŸ’‘

If the statistics don’t show some apps (like banking), check the permissions in Settings β†’ Apps β†’ App Management β†’ [App Name] β†’ Additional β†’ Digital Well-being. Often they are disabled by default for privacy.

Please note that if you use a second space or guest mode in MIUI, the statistics will be collected separately for each profile.

2. Hidden statistics in the β€œBattery”: an alternative data source

Few people know, but Redmi 9 keeps a parallel record of application run times in the Battery section.** This method is useful if:

  • πŸ”„ Your statistics in "Digital Well-Being" Suddenly dropped
  • πŸ“‰ You suspect some apps are consuming battery in the background (and want to check it out)
  • πŸ” You need data for more than 7 days (the history is stored for up to 30 days)

Instructions:

  1. Open Settings β†’ Battery and Performance β†’ Battery Use
  2. Slip on the icon "Details"** (three dots in the upper right corner)
  3. Select the period: 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
  4. Scroll down to the "Use of Apps" block**

Here you'll see not only the active time, but also the percentage of battery consumption each app uses, for example, if Instagram shows 4 hours of activity but ate 20% of the charge, that's a sign that it works in the background even when you're not using it.

πŸ“Š How often do you check the time in apps?
Once a week.
Only when the battery is down.
Never checked.
I use third-party trackers.

3. How to export statistics to Excel (without root)

If you need data for deep analysis (for example, to build graphs in Excel or Google Sheets), you can export it through the Internet. ADB-This method works on Redmi 9 with any version. MIUI, requires a computer.

You'll need:

  • πŸ–₯️ Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux
  • πŸ”Œ USB-cable (preferably original)
  • πŸ› οΈ Google's Platform Tools utility

Steps:

  1. Turn on "Debugging by" USBΒ»** on the phone: Settings β†’ The phone. β†’ Version. MIUI (Tap 7 times to unlock the developer menu, then Settings β†’ Additionally. β†’ For developers β†’ Debugging by USB
  2. Connect your phone to your PC and confirm your trust in your computer
  3. Open the Terminal in the platform-tools folder and do:
adb shell dumpsys usagestats --help

adb shell dumpsys usagestats stats --days 7 > usage_stats.txt

This team retains data from the last 7 file-day usage_stats.txt. You can open it in Excel using a tab separator:

Field.DescriptionExample of meaning
package_nameApplication IDcom.instagram.android
time_in_foregroundTime in the foreground (MS)14.4 million (4 hours)
last_time_usedLast Use (Timestamp)1689234567890
launch_countNumber of launches42
How to convert timestamp to a normal date?
Use the formula in Excel: =((A1/86400000)+DATE(1970,1,1)), where A1 is a cell with timestamp.

⚠️ Note: Some manufacturers (including Xiaomi) restrict access to full statistics through the use of the Internet. ADB newer MIUI. If the team returns an empty result, try adding a flag. --include-stopped or check if the option β€œAllow access to usage statistics” is enabled in the developer settings.

4. Third-party apps: top-3 tracker for Xiaomi

If you don't like the built-in MIUI tools, consider third-party solutions. We tested 15 apps and selected the three best ones for Redmi 9:

  1. ActionDash (🌟 Recommended) πŸ“ˆ Visualization of data in the form of graphs and diagrams πŸ”” Smart notifications about exceeding limits πŸ”„ Synchronization between devices (if you have several Xiaomi gadgets) minus: the free version shows statistics only for 3 days.
  2. Digital Wellbeing by Google) πŸ›‘οΈ Built-in removal protection (works as a system application) πŸ‘Ά Parental Control with time limit πŸ“± Supports several profiles

Disadvantages: MIUI may conflict with the built-in Digital Well-Being.
