Owners of modern Xiaomi TVs often face limited functionality of the built-in app store, especially if we are talking about global versions of firmware or specific regional settings. Lack of access to the full Google Play Store directory can significantly reduce the multimedia potential of the device, depriving the user of the ability to install popular streaming services, games and utilities for managing a smart home.
Fortunately, the Android TV operating system that runs these TVs provides flexible tools to expand functionality, and in this article, we will look at all the ways you can install an app store, from standard account activation to advanced methods using ADB and third-party downloaders.
The installation process can vary depending on your TV model, whether it is a Mi TV Stick, Mi Box or a full-fledged Smart TV with a diagonal of 32 to 65 inches. It is important to understand that all manipulations are at your own risk, but the methods described below are tested by the community and are safe if you follow the instructions.
TV Preparation and Verification of System Version
Before you start installing directly, you need to make sure your device is ready to work with external application sources. The first step should always be to check the current version of the operating system and have a stable connection to the Wi-Fi network. Without the Internet, the process of downloading the necessary components is impossible.
Go to the settings menu of your TV by selecting Settings in the upper right corner of the home screen. Next, follow the Device or System path, where select About TV. Here you are interested in the Android version bar - it must be at least 9.0 for most modern versions of the Play Market to work correctly.
It's also critical to activate the developer mode if it's hidden by default. Go to About TV and find the build bar. Click on it 7 times in a row until you notice that you're a developer, which opens up access to hidden debugging features.
⚠️ Note: Do not turn on the debugging mode USB, If you don't plan on connecting your TV to your computer for complicated debugging, it can create a security vulnerability in your home network.
Once you activate the developer mode, go back to the main settings menu and find a new Settings for developers. Make sure that the option of Unknown Sources (Install Unknown Apps) is allowed for file managers that you plan to use, such as File Commander or Send Files to TV.
Method of installation through the built-in GetApps store
The easiest and most secure method that suits most users is to use the GetApps Store preinstalled. This directory is the official Play Market analog for Xiaomi devices and often contains the necessary system components to run Google services.
Find the GetApps icon on the home screen or in the app folder. Open the store and search for “Google Play Store” or simply “Play Market.” The system will offer several options, among which you need to choose the official installer from Google LLC.
If a direct search doesn't work, try looking for Google Play Services. Often, installing basic services automatically pulls up the app store itself. The installation process takes a few minutes and requires remote confirmation.
- 📱 Open the GetApps app on the home screen.
- 🔍 Search for “Play Store” or “Google Services".
- ⬇️ Click the "Install" button and wait for the download to complete.
- 🔄 Restart the TV through the switch-off menu → Reboot.
In some cases, especially on Chinese firmware versions, additional authorization may be required. Once installed, the system may request a login to a Google account, enter your details using a virtual keyboard, or use the code login feature on another device.
💡
If a search in GetApps doesn’t find the Play Market, try upgrading the GetApps store itself to the latest version through its settings.
Use of the APK-file and file manager
If standard methods do not work, manual installation comes to the rescue. APK-This method requires prior preparation: you will need to download the installation file of the Google Play Store. APK on a computer or smartphone and then transfer it to the TV.
For file transfer, it is most convenient to use the Send Files to application TV, It's a device that needs to be installed on both the TV and the transmitter. USB-flash drive formatted in the file system FAT32 or NTFS.
Download the current version of the APK file from a trusted resource, such as APKMirror or APKPure. It is important to choose a version that is compatible with the architecture of your TV processor (usually ARM or x86 for TV Box) and the Android version.
| Parameter | Description | Recommended value |
|---|---|---|
| Source of the file | bootloader | APKMirror, 4PDA |
| Architecture | Type of TV processor | ARM64 / x86_64 |
| Android version | TV OS | Android 9.0+ |
| Screen resolution | Interface support | TV Layout (1920x1080) |
Once you have the file on your TV, open it through the file manager, the system will issue a security alert, confirm the installation by allowing action for the source, and the process can take time because the system needs to check signatures and dependencies.
⚠️ Attention: Download APK Files from unverified telegram channels may contain malicious code that can damage the system or steal Wi-Fi data from the network.

Activation through Google Services (GMS)
On some global versions of Xiaomi TVs, Google components are already built into the system, but hidden or deactivated.
Go to Settings → Accounts and Logins. If you see the Google logo there but you can’t sign in or the store won’t open, try clearing the cache of the Google Play Services app. To do this, go to Settings → Apps → All apps, find the right one and select Clear Data.
In some cases, resetting the advertising ID helps. In the Settings section, look for Privacy or Security and select Reset the advertising ID. Then try logging in to your Google account again.
If the TV is Chinese, then activation of GMS (Google Mobile Services) may require changing the region. In the device settings, find Region and select any European country, for example, Germany or the United States. After changing the region, the interface can be partially rebuilt, and Google services will be available for activation.

Installation via ADB and Command Line
For advanced users who are not afraid of the command line, there is a method of installation through the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) protocol, which allows you to install applications directly from your computer, bypassing the limitations of the TV interface.
First, you need to know. IP-You can do this in the settings section. → Network → Network status: Write down numbers like 192.168.1.55. Make sure your computer and TV are on the same network.
On your computer, download and install Platform Tools (ADB). Open the Command Prompt (CMD) or terminal in the folder with ADB and enter the command to connect:
adb connect 192.168.1.55:5555If the connection is successful, you will see the message "connected to...". Next, you can install the APK file with the command:
adb install -r path to file.apkThis method is especially useful when the TV interface is slow or touch controls (employing the remote) are not available, and it also allows you to install system applications that are hidden from the average user.
- 💻 Install the drivers. ADB computer.
- 🌐 Find out. IP-TV address in network settings.
- 🔌 Execute the adb connect command IP_address.
- 📦 Start the installation with the adb install command.
💡
ADB is the most reliable way to install system components, as it minimizes the risk of interface errors and allows you to control the process at the system level.
Solving errors and installation problems
During installation, users often encounter errors such as “App not installed”, “Insufficient memory” or an endless download cycle.
The "Lack of memory" error is solved by clearing the cache. Go to Settings → Applications, find heavy applications (such as YouTube or a browser) and clear their cache. You can also delete unused programs.
If the installation is blocked by Xiaomi’s security system, try to turn off the Internet while the APK file is installed. Sometimes the built-in MIUI Security antivirus blocks the installation of applications from unknown sources when the connection is active.
If the Play Market is installed but pages are not opened or content is not loaded, check the date and time on your TV. The wrong date leads to an error in SSL security certificates and Google services stop working.
⚠️ Warning: If after installing Play Market, the TV starts to run slowly or freeze, try uninstalling newly installed apps or perform a full reset to factory settings.
Sometimes change helps. DNS-server in the network settings. Try to manually prescribe DNS from Google: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 This can improve communication with update servers and solve the problem with downloading the application directory.
