MIUI newsfeed is one of the most controversial elements of Xiaomi firmware that many users want to remove immediately after buying a smartphone. It not only takes up space on the home screen, but also constantly loads ads, news from dubious publishers and unnecessary widgets. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not provided an easy way to completely remove this feature through standard settings - the tape can only be hidden or limited.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods, from basic settings to deep changes in the system, you will learn how to turn off tape through the MIUI menu, remove it with ADB, block updates through Google Play, as well as what alternative launchers will help replace the standard interface.
Important: Some methods require superuser rights (root) or work with system files. If you are not sure about your skills, use the safe methods in the first sections.
Why MIUI News Feed is Hindering Users
At first glance, the newsfeed seems like a useful feature: it aggregates content from multiple sources, shows the weather, exchange rates, and even recommends apps.
- π’ Intrusive advertising, even when personalized advertising is turned off, banners of games, credit offers and questionable services appear in the feed.
- π° Poor content quality. Algorithms MIUI often slip clickbait headlines, fake news and materials in non-native language.
- π Traffic and battery consumption: The tape is constantly updated in the background, even if you are not using it.
- π± Occupied screen space: A separate page appears on the home screen that cannot be swiped away (unlike Google Discover).
- π Data collection: To personalize, tape analyzes your actions on your phone, raising privacy questions.
According to a survey of Xiaomi owners, more than 70% of users tried to turn off the tape in the first months after buying a smartphone, and only 15% were able to do it completely β the rest either hid it partially or accepted the presence.
If you're one of the majority who wants to get rid of a function that's unnecessary, read on. We'll start with the simplest of ways and gradually move on to radical measures.
Method 1: Turn off the tape via MIUI settings (without root)
The safest method that works on all Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones with MIUI 12-14 firmware is that it doesnβt remove the tape completely, but it hides it from the home screen and disables most of the annoying elements.
Instructions:
- Open Settings β Home screen (or Desktop in some versions).
- Find the News Feed (may be called News Feed or MIUI News).
- Turn off the slider Show the news feed.
- Go back to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the MIUI News app (or News), open its settings and select Disable.
- Confirm the action by clicking Disable the application.
After that, the tape will disappear from the main screen, but its processes can continue to work in the background to completely stop its activity:
- π Go to Settings. β Battery and productivity β Battery management.
- π Find it. MIUI News in the list and select Limit background activity.
- π΅ Disable notifications from the app in its settings.
βοΈ Checking the tape off
This is a non-super-user option, and it's reversible: if you want to return the tape, you just turn it back on in the settings, but it's not suitable for firmware older than MIUI 11, because it has a different settings interface.
Method 2: Remove via ADB (without root but with PC)
If the standard shutdown didnβt work, you can use the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) tool, which removes the tape at the system level, but does not require root rights. Suitable for most models, including the Xiaomi 13T, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and POCO F5.
You'll need:
- π» Computer with Windows, macOS or Linux.
- π USB-cable (preferably original).
- π± Included Debugging by USB phone-on.
Step-by-step:
- Download and install ADB Tools on your computer.
- On your phone, turn on Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. Tap 7 times on the MIUI Version until you become a developer!

adb devicesIf the phone is connected correctly, you'll see its serial number.
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolutionTo completely remove the tape, you may need to enter two more commands:
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.weather2
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.yellowpageOnce you reboot your phone, the news feed and the associated widgets (weather, currency rates) will disappear, and if one of the commands fails, skip it and move on to the next one.
π‘
If the feed still appears after the commands are executed, check for updates to the MIUI News app in Google Play, which sometimes restore deleted components.
Importantly, this method removes the tape only for the current user, and once the phone is reset to factory settings, it will have to be turned off again.
Method 3: Use of alternative launchers
If you don't want to mess with the system settings, you can just replace the standard MIUI launcher with a third-party one, which doesn't physically remove the tape, but it hides it from the eye, and it also has the additional customization features.
The best launchers for Xiaomi:
| Launcher | Advantages | Deficiencies | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nova Launcher | Flexible customization of icons, gestures, support for themes | Premium version for some functions | Google Play |
| Lawnchair | Lightweight, Android 12+ support, no advertising | Fewer features than Nova | Google Play |
| Hyperion Launcher | Maximum customization, support for MIUI-style | Difficult for beginners | Google Play |
| Microsoft Launcher | Windows integration, minimalist design | Data collection for personalization | Google Play |
How to install and configure:
- Download the launcher from Google Play.
- When you first start, select it as the default launcher.
- In the new launcher settings, turn off the display of the news feed (usually called Feed or Discover).
- Customize gestures, icons and themes to your liking.
The downside is that MIUI tape will stay in the system and consume resources, but visually it will disappear and the interface will become cleaner. If you care about performance, combine this method with an ADB shutdown.

Method 4: Blocking MIUI News updates via Google Play
Even if you disable the feed, it can come back after the MIUI News app updates. To prevent this from happening, you need to block its updates in Google Play.
Instructions:
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Find the MIUI News app (or MIUI News).
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Disable Auto Update.
- Return to the home page of the app and click Delete (if the button is active).
You can also turn off background activity:
- Go to Settings β Applications β MIUI News β Battery.
- Choose Restricted or Ban background activity.
- In the Mobile Data section, disable background traffic.
π‘
Blocking updates through Google Play is a must-do step after you turn off the feed, and without this, it can return after another update.
This method doesn't remove the tape completely, but it prevents it from coming back, and combine it with other methods to maximize its effect.
Method 5: Radical removal with root (for advanced)
If you're willing to go to extreme lengths and have experience with root rights, you can remove the tape at the system file level, which is suitable for MIUI 10-14 firmware and requires an unlocked bootloader.
β οΈ Attention: Incorrect root actions can lead to a phone blink (completely inoperable.
What you need:
- π± Phone with unlocked bootloader and root rights.
- π» PC with installation ADB and Fastboot.
- π§ Root-access file manager (e.g., Root Explorer or Solid Explorer).
Step-by-step:
- Install a file manager with root support on your phone.
- Open the manager and go to /system/priv-app/.
- Find and delete the following folders (if any): MiuiSystemAdSolution Weather2 YellowPage
- Go to /system/app/ and delete: MiuiDaemon MiuiBugReport
- Clear the cache and application data through Settings β Apps.
- Reboot the phone.
After the reboot, the news feed and related services will be removed without the possibility of recovery (except through flashing).
β οΈ Note: On some models (Xiaomi) 12T, Redmi K50) folder-off Weather2 It can cause the weather widget to disappear, and if you need one, leave this folder, but delete the rest.
An alternative way for users with Magisk:
- Download the MIUI News Remover module for Magisk.
- Install it through the module manager.
- Reboot the phone.
This method is 100% secure for removal, but only for advanced users, and if you've never worked with root, you'd better use the methods in the previous sections.
Frequent problems and their solutions
When you turn off or remove tape, users often face unexpected difficulties, and let's look at the most common ones and how to solve them.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The tape is back after the MIUI update | System application is being restored | Turn off auto-update in Google Play and re-delete via ADB |
| The weather widget does not work after removal | Removed Weather2 system folder | Install a third-party widget (e.g., AccuWeather) |
| ADB does not see the device | Not installed drivers or not included debugging | Install Mi PC Suite and check the developer settings |
| After removing the tape, notifications disappear | Conflict with system services | Restart your phone or return the standard launcher |
| It's not possible to root. | The bootloader is not unlocked | Follow Xiaomiβs official unblocking instructions |
If after all the manipulations the tape still appears, check:
- π The presence of duplicate applications (for example, Google Discover can simulate tape).
- π Firmware updates β sometimes they reset settings.
- π Rights of system applications (c Settings) β Annexes β Special access).
If none of these methods worked, consider switching to custom firmware (e.g. Pixel Experience or LineageOS), where MIUI tapes are not available.
