Duplicate contacts in the Xiaomi phone book are a problem that one in three users encounter, and it occurs after synchronization with multiple accounts (Google, Mi Account, SIM-card), import from backups or errors in operation MIUI. Instead of 200 unique records, you get 500.+ Repeated names with different numbers, mails or blank fields.
The problem is that standard tools MIUI Contacts are not always properly merged, especially if they are linked to different sources, for example, the same person may appear separately as a Google entry, separately as a Google entry, separately as a Google entry. SIM-So today, we're going to take a look at 5 proven ways to clean up duplicates, including hidden features. MIUI, Working with Google Contacts and Third Party Utilities.
โ ๏ธ Important: Before any manipulation of contacts, be sure to back up through Settings โ Google โ Backup or export contacts to.vcf. This will save you from data loss in case of crashes.
1.Integrated contact merging in MIUI
The most obvious way is to use the merging tool built into MIUI firmware. It is available on all modern Xiaomi models (from Redmi Note 10 to Xiaomi 14) and works even without an Internet connection. However, the method has limitations: it combines only contacts with identical names, ignoring typos or different formatting entries (for example, "Ivan Ivanov" and "Ivanov I.A.").
To take advantage of the function:
- Open the Contacts app (an icon with a personโs silhouette).
- Slip on three points in the upper right corner โ Contact management.
- Choose to Join Contacts.
- The system will automatically find the duplicates and suggest that they be merged.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have Google or Mi Account sync enabled, after the merger, the changes will apply to all devices associated with these accounts.

2. Clean up through Google Contacts (web version)
If the duplicates are due to Google sync, it is more effective to work directly through the Google Contacts web interface, which is suitable for users whose main source of contacts is a Google account, rather than a local phone memory. The advantage of the web version is that it offers more flexible tools for finding and removing duplicates, including:
- ๐ Automatic merger: The algorithm finds records with the same names, phones, or mail.
- ๐งน Manual cleaning โ the ability to selectively remove or edit duplicates.
- ๐ Source Filtering โ Displaying Contacts Only with Sources SIM-Maps, Xiaomi or other accounts.
Cleaning instructions:
- Go to contacts.google.com and log in.
- In the left menu, select Dubbley, and the system will show all the copies found.
- Click Combine All or select specific duplicates for manual merge.
- After cleaning, sync changes to your phone: Settings โ Accounts โ Google โ Sync contacts.
๐ก Useful tip: if the doubles are left, try filtering contacts by source (More โ Sources) and manually delete records from SIM-They're often the ones who create redundant copies of cards or old accounts.

3. Use of third-party applications
If the built-in tools of MIUI and Google fail, specialized applications will come to the rescue, offering advanced algorithms for finding duplicates, including analysis by phone numbers, email addresses, and even partial name matches among the utilities tested:
| Annex | Features | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts Optimizer | Searches for duplicates according to 10+ criteria, supports backup | Google Play |
| Simpler Merge | Simple interface, work with local and cloud contacts | Google Play |
| Cleanup: Duplicate Contacts | Automatic and manual merger, MIUI support | Google Play |
๐ง How to use it:
- Install one of the applications (we recommend Contacts Optimizer for deep cleaning).
- Give access to contacts and wait for scans.
- Review the list of duplicates found and confirm merger or deletion.
- Export backup after cleaning (the option is in most utilities).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some applications (such as Cleanup) may offer paid features to clean more than 50 takes.
Manual disposal through export/import
This method is suitable for advanced users who are willing to spend time cleaning thoroughly, and it has a plus of 100% control over the process and the ability to fix not only duplicates, but also errors in the format of names, phones or addresses.
Step-by-step:
- Export contacts: On the phone: Contacts โ โฎ โ Contact management โ Exports/imports โ Exports in memory. Google Contacts: More โ Exports โ vCard (for reserve) or Google CSV (editable).
- Open the file on PC: For.vcf: use Notepad++ or VCard Editor. For.csv: import to Excel or Google Sheets.
- Delete duplicates: In Excel: sort the data by the "Name" or "Phone" column and delete the repeating lines (Data โ Delete duplicates). Manual: check the typo records (e.g. "Andrey" and "Andrey") and correct.
- On the phone: Contacts โ โฎ โ Contact management โ Imports from memory.
- Google: More โ Import โ Select a file.
โ ๏ธ Note: after deleting your account, all data (including email, calendar, and notes) will be deleted from your device, and can only be restored when you re-sync. If you use Mi Account, make sure you have access to the linked phone number to re-authorize.
๐ก
Resetting synchronization is a last resort, only if other methods have failed, and you have a full backup of your contacts.
Prevention of duplication
To avoid repeating contacts, follow the following simple rules:
- ๐ฑ Turn off automatic synchronization with SIM-map: Settings โ SIM-maps and mobile networks โ [Yours. SIM] โ Import/export of contacts โ Turn off auto-import.
- ๐ Use only one source: choose either Google or Mi Account, but not both at the same time.
- ๐ Edit contacts in one place: If youโre editing a post on your phone, donโt do it in parallel in the web version of Google Contacts.
- ๐ Check the doubles regularly: every 2-3 months, run the built-in merger in the MIUI.
