Intrusive ads in Xiaomiβs browser are one of the most common problems faced by smartphone owners of this brand. Even after buying a new device, users often notice pop-up banners, redirects to dubious sites or built-in ads in the branded Mi Browser browser. The reasons can be different from preinstalled MIUI services to malicious extensions or viruses.
In this article, we will analyze all possible sources of advertising in the browser on Xiaomi (including the Redmi Note 12 models, POCO X5, Mi 11 and others) and offer 5 proven ways to remove it, from basic settings to radical measures. MIUI 12, MIUI 13 and MIUI 14, as the interface and available options may differ.
If youβre tired of constantly redirecting to ads.xiaomi.com or the ad units at the bottom of the screen, follow the instructions below. Weβll also tell you how to completely disable personalized ads in your Xiaomi account so that banners donβt fit your interests.
1. Disabling advertising in the branded browser Mi Browser
The standard Mi Browser (or Mint Browser in some regions) is Xiaomiβs main source of advertising, and even after upgrading to MIUI 14, it continues to display banners on the homepage and while surfing.
- π± Open the Mi Browser and tap three dots in the upper right corner.
- βοΈ Select Settings β Additionally. β Advertising and recommendations.
- π« Turn off all switches: Personalized recommendations, Advertising Notices and Show news on the main page.
- π Restart your browser to make changes effective.
If there is no Advertising and Recommendation, you have an outdated version of the browser, update it via Google Play or delete it and reinstall it. In MIUI 14 for European firmware (EEA), this section may be called Privacy & Security.
β οΈ Warning: After Mi Browser adverts are turned off, some features (such as quick access to the weather or currency exchange rates) may stop working.

2. Removal of pre-installed Xiaomi advertising services
MIUI is known for integrating services for displaying ads, such as msa (Miui System Ads) or analytics, which cannot be removed by standard means, but can be disabled or frozen using ADB (Android Debug Bridge).
For this:
- Turn on Developer Mode on your phone: go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version and tap 7 times on this item.
- Return to Settings β Additional β For developers and activate Debugging over USB.
- Connect your phone to your PC, install ADB Tools, and execute the commands:
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolution
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.xiaomi.midrop
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.analyticsThese commands will remove the main modules responsible for displaying ads on the system. If after the reboot the error com.android.phone stopped, do not worry: this is a temporary bug that is corrected by resetting the network settings in Settings. β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Resetting settings.

3.Setting up Google Chrome to block ads
If you use Google Chrome instead of Mi Browser, ads may appear because of:
- π Harmful extensions (if installed).
- π± Redirections through DNS (frequently used by fraudsters).
- π Data collectors embedded in websites (e.g. Google Ads).
To remove ads in Chrome:
- Open Chrome Settings β Privacy & Security β Site Settings β Advertising and turn off Allow Sites to Show Ads.
- Install an ad blocker (such as uBlock Origin or AdGuard) from the Chrome Web Store.
- Reset your DNS settings: go to Settings β Connections & Sharing β Private DNS and select Automatic (or manually specify dns.google).
If the ads appear even on an empty tab, check your phone for viruses using Malwarebytes or Dr.Web Light. Some Trojans replace the ad units in the browser, and they can only be removed with antivirus.

4. Reset browser settings and clear cache
Sometimes the ads are saved because of a corrupted cache or outdated browser data, to reset the settings:
| Action. | Mi Browser | Google Chrome |
|---|---|---|
| Clearing the cache | Settings β Clear the data β Cash | Settings β Privacy β Clear data β Cached images |
| Deletion of cookies | Settings β Privacy β Clear cookies | Settings β Privacy β Clear History β Cookies |
| Resetting settings | Remove and install the browser again | Settings β Resetting settings |
After clearing the cache, some sites can open longer, which is normal, and if the ads come back after a few days, then the problem lies deeper (for example, in the system services MIUI).
β οΈ Note: Do not clear your browser data (Clear all data) unless you have saved passwords and bookmarks. Use sync with your Google or Xiaomi account.
5. DNS-level advertising blocking (for power users)
If previous methods failed, you can block ad domains at the network level.
- Install Blokada or AdGuard from the official website (not from Google Play, as there are stripped down versions).
- Activate. VPN-In-app mode and select the lock list (e.g. EasyList) + EasyPrivacy).
- Reboot the phone.
This method blocks ads in all applications, not just in the browser, but it can conflict with some banking applications (e.g. SberBank Online or Tinkoff) as they require the VPN to be disabled.
π‘
If push notifications (for example, in VKontakte or Telegram) stopped working after installing the blocker, add the domains.push.apple.com and.googleapis.com to the white list in the blocker settings.
Extreme measures: phone reset or firmware
If the ads appear even after all the manipulations, it is possible that your phone is infected with an adver virus (for example, HiddenAds or Shuanet), such viruses are disguised as system applications and are not removed by standard methods.
- π Make a complete reset of settings through Settings β The phone. β Reset settings. Before you do this, save your data to Mi Cloud or Google Drive.
- π₯ Install custom firmware (like Pixel Experience or LineageOS) if you have a bootloader unlocked. This is a radical method, but it is guaranteed to remove all preinstalled ad modules.
- π‘οΈ Check your phone for viruses with Kaspersky Mobile or Bitdefender (scan must be done in safe mode).
Resetting will bring the phone back to factory status, but it won't remove viruses if they've penetrated the system files, and then only firmware will help.
π‘
If the ad appears even after resetting, it is 100% a sign of infection with a virus, in which case only a complete flashing or contacting a service center will help.
