How to make hidden text in Telegram on Xiaomi: from formatting to secret chats

Why does the hidden text in Telegram work differently on Xiaomi?

Xiaomi’s MIUI-enabled smartphones have messaging features, including Telegram. For example, in a standard Android client, hidden text through spoilers or formatting may not be displayed correctly due to system optimizations. And in MIUI 14+ versions, additional restrictions on background processes are added, which affects notifications of “secret” messages.

In this article, we will discuss 5 working methods adapted specifically for Xiaomi devices (including Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Mi 11 and others). You will learn how to hide text in regular chats, channels, as well as how to use the built-in mechanisms of Telegram for complete privacy - without third-party applications and the risk of blocking an account.

Important: Some methods require permission to change system settings (for example, to work with secret chats). If you have MIUI Global, some of the features may be limited, we will also talk about this.

Method 1: Spoilers are the simplest hidden text

Telegram's spoiler feature allows you to hide text under a gray shaded area, which works stable on Xiaomi, but there are nuances with the display in the notifications.

1. Open a chat or channel in Telegram.
2. Enter the text you want to hide.
3. Select it and click on the icon 👁️ (or select "Spoiler" in the formatting menu).
4. Send a message.

On MIUI 13/14, spoilers can be automatically disclosed in notifications if Preview Messages is enabled.

Method 4: Text-hiding bots (with caution!)

There are bots that allow you to send self-destructing messages or text with a password, such as @SecretTextBot or @HideItBot. However, on Xiaomi, their work can be unstable due to:

1. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management → Notification Log.
2. Turn off the option to Show notifications in the Telegram log.

Frequent problems and solutions for Xiaomi

Xiaomi users often encounter specific errors when working with hidden text in Telegram, and here are the most common ways to solve them:

• 🔄 Spoilers do not work in the channel: Check the administrator rights (you need to be an "Editor" or "Admin"). Also make sure that the channel is not age-limited (in the channel settings).
