Why Alice is Stopping Background on Redmi 9 – and How to Fix It
Voice assistant Alice from Yandex on Xiaomi Redmi 9 often faces the problem of forced closure by the MIUI system. Even if you turned on auto-start and removed the restrictions for the application, after a few hours of work in the background, the assistant can “fall asleep” or completely stop.
In this article, we will discuss 7 working methods to keep Alice active in the background, from basic MIUI settings to hidden developer settings and alternative solutions. All instructions are tested on Redmi 9 with MIUI 12-14 versions and are relevant for 2026.
Before you start, check your firmware version in Settings → About Phone → MIUI. If you have custom firmware installed (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), some of the instructions may not work – in which case, go straight to alternative methods.
Method 1: Set up Auto Start and Permit for Alice in MIUI
The first thing you need to do is let Alice autorun and remove all restrictions on background work, and in MIUI, these settings are hidden deep and easy to miss.
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Find Yandex (or Alice if installed as a separate application) and tap it.
- Go to the Permissions section and enable: 🔄 Auto-start (most important!) 📱 Display over other windows 🔋 Background work 🚫 Ignore battery optimization (if there is such a point)
Background restrictions → No restrictions.
Additionally. → Battery
No restrictions.
After this manipulation, restart your phone, and if Alice closes in 10 to 30 minutes, move on to the next method, and the problem is deeper.
All permissions open in MIUI| Autostart enabled |Background work without restrictions |Battery optimization disabled |Application added to exceptions-->
Method 2: Adding Alice to Protected Applications
MIUI has a hidden list of "Secure Applications" that don't close even when there's a memory shortage, and you can add Alice manually.
- Open Settings → Battery and Performance → Battery Management
- Slip on Settings (cog in the upper right corner) → Secure applications.
- Turn on the switch opposite Yandex or Alice.
- If the app is not in the list, click Add Apps and select it manually.
Important: In some versions of MIUI, this section may be called “High Priority Apps” or “Optimization Exceptions.” If you don’t find an item, use a Settings Search (the magnifier in the upper right corner).
Once added to secure applications, Alice will be able to work in the background for up to 4-6 hours without forced closure.
5-10 minutes | 30-60 minutes | 2-3 hours | Not closing at all-->
Method 3: Disable battery optimization via ADB (no root rights)
If the previous methods did not help, you will have to use them. ADB-This method does not require root rights, but it will require connecting the phone to a computer:
- Turn on USB debugging: Go to Settings → About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI until the notification “You’ve become a developer” appears. Return to Settings → Additional → Developer. Enable USB debugging and confirm permission.
Connect your phone to your PC
Platform Tools
Platform Tools
adb devices(Your phone number should be displayed).
Execute the command to disable optimization
adb shell dumpsys deviceidle whitelist +ru.yandex.search(If Alice is installed as a separate application, use ru.yandex.alisa).
Once you have completed the command, restart your phone, a method that is guaranteed to turn off optimization for Alice, but can slightly increase battery consumption (3-5%).
What if the ADB can’t see the device?
Method 4: Using Tasker to Force Alice to Awaken
If the system settings don’t work, you can make Alice wake up every 10 to 15 minutes with automation, and you’ll need the Tasker app (paid, but there’s a free trial).
Algorithm of settings:
Installation instructions:
- Download. ZIP-archive with a core (for example, from a forum) 4PDA or XDA-Developers).
- Reboot to TWRP (hold Power + Volume up).
- Make a backup of the current core (Backup) → Select Boot).
- Install a new kernel (Install → Select ZIP).
- Reboot the phone.
⚠️ Attention: Installing a custom core can result in a loss of warranty, unstable phone performance, or even a "brick" (breakdown).Be sure to have a backup boot and dtbo partitions before the procedure.
Method 6: Alternative solutions – if nothing helps
If all of the above methods have not worked, consider alternatives:
| Decision | Pluses | Cons | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Use Google Assistant | It is stable and integrated into MIUI. | Fewer functions for Russian-speaking users | ⭐ |
| Install Bixby (for Samsung) | Good background optimization | Not officially supported on Xiaomi | ⭐⭐⭐ |
| Buy Yandex Station | Alice is working 24/7, voice control | Additional costs (~5 000 ₽) | ⭐ |
| Go to custom firmware (LineageOS) | No aggressive MIUI optimization | Complex installation, possible bugs | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
If you are critical to Alice’s work in the background (for example, for a smart home or voice control), the most reliable solution is to buy a separate device – Yandex Station Mini or Yandex Columns.
💡
Xiaomi Redmi 9 with MIUI 14+ The most reliable method is the combination ADB-team + Castom firmware and cores are better, but they require technical skills.
Method 7: Optimize battery consumption without loss of functionality
If Alisafinally is running in the background but the phone is running too fast, try balancing the settings:
- 🔄 Set the sync interval for email and contacts to 1 hour instead of push notifications.
You can also use the Greenify app (requires root rights) to “freeze” unnecessary background processes without affecting Alice.
⚠️ Attention: If Alice closes after 1-2 hours, check the phone for viruses. Some malware blocks background processes to mask its activity. Use Malwarebytes or Dr.Web Light to scan.
