Have you accidentally deleted an important conversation or do not know where the Xiaomi Redmi 9T saves call records? This problem is familiar to many Xiaomi smartphone users, especially when you urgently need to find proof or recover details of a conversation. Unlike flagship models, the budget Redmi 9T does not always have a built-in feature of recording conversations out of the box, but this does not mean that the ability is absent completely.
In this article, we will look at all the available ways to listen to records, from standard MIUI tools to third-party applications, as well as how to set up autorecord, where to look for stored files and what to do if the record is lost, and pay special attention to the legal nuances: in which cases the recording of a conversation can be used as evidence, and when its distribution violates the law.
1. Where are the default call records on Xiaomi Redmi 9T stored
If youโve never set up a conversation record manually, check the standard file layout first. In MIUI (even on Redmi 9T with limited features), records can be automatically saved in two places:
- ๐ Internal memory: folder /MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/. It stores files in.amr format or.mp3, if the recording was conducted through the standard application Dictaphone.
- ๐ Appendix "Phone": some firmware MIUI 12+ They keep the records right in the call log. โ Journal โ Choose a contact โ Record icon (if any).
- โ๏ธ Mi Cloud: If sync is enabled, records can automatically be uploaded to Mi Cloud โ Records. Check through the web version or app.
On Redmi 9T with factory firmware, the path to files may be different. For example, in some regional versions of MIUI, records are stored in /Recorders/CallRecordings/. If there is no folder, then the recording function is disabled or not supported by your version of the software.

Use a root file manager (such as Solid Explorer) to see hidden system folders where records may lie.
2. How to enable automatic call recording
If your Redmi 9T doesn't record default conversations, you can manually activate the function. Depending on the version of MIUI (11, 12, 13 or 14), the path to settings may differ.
- Open the Phone app.
- Press three points (โฎ) top-right โ Settings.
- Select the Recording of Conversations (or Call Recording in English).
- Activate the Record Switch automatically.
- Tell me which calls to record: ๐ All calls (risk of law breaking in some countries!). ๐ Outbound/inbound only. ๐ Contacts selected (the safest option).
If you don't have a Record Conversations menu item, your firmware doesn't support the function, and then you can either upgrade MIUI to the latest version or install a third-party app (more on that below).

3. Third-party applications for recording calls
If the built-in MIUI tools don't work, use specialized software. We tested 5 applications on Redmi 9T and selected the best ones:
| Annex | Features | Cons | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cube ACR | Recording from both sides, cloud storage, voice recognition | Paid version for full functionality, sometimes does not catch calls | Google Play |
| Call Recorder by Lovekush | Simple interface, write to.mp3, integrate with Google Drive | Advertising in the free version, no filter by contact | Google Play |
| Truecaller | Record + block spam, identification of numbers | Registration is required, not all calls to MIUI are recorded. | Google Play |
Important: On Android 10+ (including Redmi 9T), many apps cannot record calls due to Google restrictions. To get around this, enable the "Use the built-in voice recorder" option in the app settings or give permission to access notifications.
4. How to recover deleted call records
If you accidentally erase a recording, don't panic, it can be returned. There are three working ways on Redmi 9T:
- Recycle Bin Check: Some file managers (e.g. Files by Google) save deleted files in the Recycle Bin for 30 days. โ Basket.
- PC Recovery: Connect your phone to your computer and use programs like Recuva or DiskDigger to scan your internal memory for deleted.amr/.mp3 files.
- Cloud Backups: If sync with Mi Cloud or Google Drive is enabled, check Backups or CallRecordings folders.
If the record was deleted long ago (more than a month), the chances of recovery are minimal, in which case only professional software (for example, EaseUS MobiSaver) will help, but it is paid and does not guarantee 100% results.
Why are recovery programs not working?
5. Legal aspects: when recording a conversation is legal
Before you record calls, check the laws of your country. Most countries have the following rules:
- ๐ท๐บ Russia: recording of a conversation is legal if you are a party to it (Article 23 of the Constitution), however, distributing the recording without the consent of the interlocutor can be qualified as a violation of the confidentiality of correspondence (Article 138 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
- ๐บ๐ฆ Ukraine: notice of recording required (Article 31 of the Constitution) may be declared inadmissible evidence in court.
- ๐ช๐บ EU: by GDPR recording a conversation without consent is considered to be a processing of personal data and requires justification (e.g. contractual relationship).
Exceptions where recording is permitted without consent:
Calls from fraudsters (for proof to the police).
Talk to support staff (if permitted by their policies)
Situations where the recording is made in self-defense (e.g. threats).
โ ๏ธ Note: Even if the record is legal, posting it on social media or sharing it with third parties may result in a lawsuit for honor and dignity. Always consult a lawyer before using the record in controversial situations.
6. Alternative ways to record conversations
If none of the above methods worked, try the workarounds:
- ๐ง External voice recorder: connect to Redmi 9T external device (e.g. Sony) ICD-UX570) You'll have to hold the recorder next to you when you talk to me, you'll have to use a 3.5 mm connector or Bluetooth.
- ๐ป PC recording: use programs like Audacity with microphone on, suitable for important conversations, but inconvenient for spontaneous calls.
- ๐ฑ Second phone: put a second phone next to you with the recorder running, and the quality will be worse, but it's a reliable way to do it if the others don't work.
Another option for the Redmi 9T with an unlocked bootloader is the Magisk CallRecorder module, which integrates into the system and records calls at the kernel level, bypassing the limitations of Android 10+. However, this method requires root rights and is only suitable for advanced users.
๐ก
The best way for beginners to do this is with the Cube ACR app, which has a "Use built-in voice recorder" setting, which bypasses Android's limitations and records both sides of the conversation even on MIUI 14.
