Why Xiaomi Notifications Are Losing and How to Get Them Back

Have you accidentally swiped an important alert or failed to respond to push messages? Xiaomi smartphones based on MIUI have features of working with notifications that often confuse users. Unlike "pure" Android, it has its own log cleaning algorithms and restrictions on storing old alerts. For example, the system saves notifications for only 24 hours by default, and some applications (for example, messengers) can erase them immediately after reading.

Method 1: Notification log in MIUI (official method)

The easiest way to view older notifications is to use the built-in MIUI log, which is available on all Xiaomi smartphones with the MIUI 12 shell version and later, but it is hidden by default.

1. Open Settings → Notifications and Status bar.
2. Slip on the three dots in the top right corner and select Notification Log.
3. Turn on the button to show notification log.

Once activated, the log will save notifications for up to 7 days (depending on the model) to view the history:

• 🔍 Select Notification History (or Journal on some firmware).
• 📅 Sort alerts by date or app using filters at the top of the screen.

⚠️ Note: On some models (e.g, POCO F4) The log may not display notifications from system applications (e.g. Mi Security or Mi Cloud) This is a shell restriction and can only be circumvented through the use of the system. ADB (see method 5).

Method 2: Recovery through Security (for MIUI 13/14)

If you accidentally cleared the notification log, try to recover data through the Security app.

Instructions:

1. Open the Security app (the shield icon).

Important: This method doesn’t work for notifications from WhatsApp, Telegram, and other messengers — they store alerts in their own cache.

Method 3: Use the Notification History Log application

If standard methods don’t work, install a third-party notification tracking app, the best option is the Notification History Log (available on Google Play), which even works on MIUI 15 and saves your alert history for up to 30 days.

How to set up:

1. Download and install Notification History Log.
2. When you first start, give notifications: Settings → Applications → Application Management → Notification History Log → Notifications → Allow
3. Enable AutoRun option for the application (so that it runs in the background).

Advantages of the annex:

• 🔍 Search for notifications by keyword (e.g., “code”, “account”, “delivery").
• 📤 Exporting history to.txt or.csv.
• 🔔 Filtering by application (e.g., only SMS or Gmail).
• 🛡️ Encrypting the database with a password.

⚠️ Attention: MIUI 14 and later, the application may not see notifications from system services (e.g., com.miui.securitycenter). To fix this, you need to manually add it to the battery optimization exception list:

Settings → Battery and Performance → Battery Optimization → Select applications → Notification History Log → Without restrictions

Method 4: View notifications via MI Cloud (Xiaomi Cloud)

If your Xiaomi has Mi Cloud sync enabled, some notifications can be saved to the cloud, a method that is suitable for recovering alerts from standard applications (Messages, Calendar, Notes).

How to check:

1. Open your Settings → Xiaomi Account → Mi Cloud.
2. Make sure that sync is enabled for the Notification section (if there is no item, then the function is not supported on your model).
3. Go to i.mi.com and log in.
4. In Devices → [Your Phone] → Activity Log, check notification history.

Method 5: View notifications via ADB (for power users)

If you need to access all notifications, including system notifications, you can use ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which requires connecting the phone to your computer and enabling developer mode.

Step-by-step:

1. Turn on Developer Mode: Settings → About Phone → MIUI Version (shap 7 times)
2. Activate Debugging by USB in the Settings section → Additional → For developers.
3. Connect your phone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell dumpsys notification --nolimit This will display a list of all active and recent notifications.
4. To save the history to the file, use: adb shell dumpsys notification > notifications_log.txt

⚠️ Attention: Teams ADB Do not share log files with third parties, which may contain authorization tokens, phone numbers and other sensitive information.

If the dumpsys notification command returns a blank list, try unlocking the phone first and repeating the request.On some versions of MIUI, notifications don't appear in ADB if the screen is locked.

Method 6: Recover deleted notifications through backup

1. Open Settings → Xiaomi Account → Mi Cloud → Backup.

Alternatively, use the Mi PC Suite program to extract data from a local copy:

Local backups on Xiaomi are stored in /MIUI/backup/AllBackup. If you don’t see this section, turn on the hidden files in any file manager (e.g., Mi File Explorer).

Method 7: Appealing for Xiaomi (extreme case)

If the notifications contained critical information (such as confirmation codes for banking transactions) and all of the above methods failed, you can contact official Xiaomi support.
