Have you ever lost an important notification on Xiaomi before you read it? Or wanted to return a message that was accidentally swiped? In MIUI, the history of push notifications is hidden deeper than in the stock Android, but it can be found - and even restored deleted alerts. In this article, we will analyze all the working methods for Redmi smartphones, POCO and Xiaomi lineups (including models from 2023-2026).
The standard way to pull the notification bar down is to only show the latest alerts. But what if you want to see a notification from a week ago or from a system application that doesn't save history? It turns out that MIUI stores the notification log in hidden settings, and some applications (like Mi Browser or Security) duplicate alerts in their logs. We tested all the methods on MIUI 14-15 firmware (Android 13-14) and selected only the current ones.
1. Standard Notification History in MIUI
The easiest way is to use the built-in notification log, which is available on all Xiaomi smartphones, but is disabled by default. Here's how to activate it:
- Open Settings β Notifications and Status bar.
- Tap on the Notification Log (some firmwares item is called Notification History).
- Turn on the button to save notification history.
- Select the applications for which you want to log (only system ones are included by default).
Once activated, all new notifications will be stored in the log to view the history:
- π± Back to Settings β Notifications and tap Notification Log.
- π Use keyword search (such as βSMSβ or βWhatsApp").
- β³ Filter by time: today, yesterday, last week.
π‘
If the log does not save notifications from some applications, check their settings: some messengers (for example, Telegram) block the entry to the log due to privacy policies.
Limitations of the method:
- π« Does not show notifications received prior to log inclusion.
- π Stores history for only 30 days (configurable in additional settings).
- π Some applications (banks, messengers with E2E-Encryption can block the preservation of.
2. Hidden notification system log (for experienced)
MIUI keeps a full log of system events, including push notifications, but it's not available.
- π οΈ Developer mode enabled (activated by 7 taps according to version) MIUI In Settings β The phone).
- π§ Logcat or MatLog (available on Google Play).
Instructions:
- Install MatLog and open it.
- In the filter, enter NotificationManager or StatusBar.
- Find the lines with postNotification β these are your notifications.
- For convenience, export the log to the.txt file and search by keywords.
Example of log entry:
05-20 14:30:45.123 1234 5678 I NotificationManager: postNotification for com.whatsapp: id=12345, tag=null, opPkg=com.whatsapp, callingUid=10123, userId=0Advantages of the method:
- π Shows all notifications, including those deleted before logging (if they were in the last 2-3 days).
- π You can find notifications from system processes (e.g. updates) MIUI).
π‘
The system log is the only way to see notifications that were deleted before MIUI activated. However, it requires technical skills and does not show the content of messages, but only metadata (ID, application packet, time).
Important: The log is cleared when you reboot your phone. To save data, export it manually.
3. Recover notifications through application-archivators
If the standard methods didn't work, use third-party utilities. They work on two principles:
- Intercept notifications in real time (requires permission from Notification Listener).
- Cache scanner β search for notification residues in system files.
Top.-3 tested applications:
| Annex | Functions | Cons | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Notisave | Save text and pictures from notifications, search history, export to PDF | Paid version to restore old notifications | Google Play |
| Notification History Log | Log of notifications with filters by application, date, keyword | Does not restore remote to installation | Google Play |
| Unnotification | Restores Fixed Notifications in the Last 24 Hours | It doesn't work on all MIUI firmware. | Google Play |
How to set up Notisave (the most reliable option):
Enable Access Notifications in the app settings |Activate Auto Save option in the Notisave menu |Add the app to the AutoStart list (Settings β Applications β AutoStart) |Disable Battery Optimization for Notisave (Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization)-->
Note: Some apps (e.g. banking) block interception of notifications for security reasons, in which case you will only see a header without text.
Notisave|Notification History Log|Unnotification|Other|Not using.-->
4. Search for notifications in the app cache
Some apps (such as Mi Browser, Gallery, or Security) duplicate notifications in their internal databases to find them:
Method 1. Through Mi Browser:
- Open your browser and enter in the address bar: about:notifications.
- Scroll down to Save Notifications section.
- Export the history to HTML-File (Save button in upper right corner).
Method 2. Through Security (only for MIUI 14+):
- π Open Security. β Optimization β Journal of Activity.
- π Go to the Notifications tab.
- π Filter by date and appendix.
Method 3: Manual search in cache files (requires root):
If you have root access, check the folders:
/data/data/{Application Package}/databases/
/data/data/{Application Package}/cache/Look for files with the.db or.sqlite extension, which can store notification texts. Use SQLite Editor to view them.
How do I find out the application package?
5. Recovery of notifications after resetting or firmware
If you reset your phone to factory settings or reflash it, the chances of resetting notifications are minimal.
Option 1: Backup of MIUI:
- π± If Backup function was enabled before reset (in Settings) β Try to recover data from the Xiaomi Cloud.
- βοΈ Notifications are saved in the backup only if the Notification Log was activated before the backup was created.
Option 2: Data recovery programs:
Use Dr.Fone, EaseUS MobiSaver, or Tenorshare UltData, and they scan the internal memory for notification residues.
- Connect the phone to the PC and allow debugging over USB.
- Select Recover Notifications (not all programs support it).
- Scan the /data partition β it will take 10β30 minutes.
- Export the found records to CSV or TXT.
π‘
Before data recovery, turn off Wi-Fi and mobile Internet β this will prevent cache overwriting with new notifications.
Note: Recovery programs often find notification fragments (e.g., only the title or part of the text) and a full recovery is unlikely, especially if more than a week has passed since deleting.
6. How to prevent the loss of notifications in the future
In order not to look for ways to restore, set up the system in advance:
- π Include Notification Log (see Section 1) and increase the retention period to a maximum of 90 days.
- π Use Notification Affix: Press the notification in the panel and select Affix.
- π€ Set up automatic log export to Google Drive via Notisave or MacroDroid.
- π« Turn off battery optimization for critical applications (such as instant messengers) in Settings β Battery.
For important notifications (e.g. from a bank or job):
- π’ Set up repeated alerts: In the app notification settings, enable Reminder (available for use) SMS, Posts, Calendar).
- π Set unique sounds for key contacts (in WhatsApp or Telegram, this is done in the chat profile).
Preventive checklist:
Check if the "Notification Journal" is included"|Install Notisave and give it all permissions|Turn off battery optimization for messengers|Create a backup in Xiaomi Cloud-->
