Method 3: Bypassing MIUI restrictions through developer settings
On some Xiaomi smartphones (especially global firmware), WhatsApp can block avatar change due to MIUI restrictions on access to storage, due to a security policy that prohibits applications from modifying system files, the solution is to enable Developer Mode and give WhatsApp extended permissions.
How to do this:
- Activate Developer Mode: Settings → About Phone → MIUI version (tap 7 times in a row) will appear notification "You became a developer!".
