Why Play Market is Shown in a Foreign Language and How to Fix It
Did you buy a Xiaomi smartphone with global firmware, but Google Play Market persistently displays menus in English, Chinese or another language? Or did the app store interface reset to unfamiliar localization after the system update? This problem is typical for devices with MIUI, where the application language settings sometimes conflict with system parameters.
The reasons can range from a bug in Google services to an incorrectly installed region in an account. 80% of the time, it takes less than a minute to synchronize language settings. But if the standard method didn't work, you'll have to dig deeper: clean the cache, update services, or even change the account region. In this article, 5 proven methods that work on all Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models (including new devices on MIUI 14).
Before you start, make sure that the problem is in the Play Market, not the system. Try to open other apps β if they are also in a foreign language, then you need to change the system language (the instructions will be in one of the sections below).
Method 1: Change the system language on the phone
The most obvious but often overlooked step is to check the main language of the system. Even if your Xiaomi interface is in Russian, Play Market can pick up the language from other settings.
- Open the settings (cog icon on the desktop).
- Go to the section Additional settings β Language and input β Language and region.
- Click on the Language and select Russian (or Russian (Russia)).
- Confirm the change and restart the phone.
After the reboot, check Play Market, 60 percent of the time, and if you don't, move on.

On some MIUI firmware (especially for the European market), Russian may be called "Russian (Russia)" or "Russian (Russia)" and choose the country option to avoid regional restrictions.
Method 2: Change the language directly to the Play Market
Google Play has its own language settings that may conflict with system settings, so that you can sync them:
- π± Open the Play Market and tap the profile avatar in the upper right corner.
- βοΈ Select Settings β General. β Account settings.
- π Find the language and set the "RussianΒ».
- π If the changes didnβt apply immediately, close the app and clear it of recent tasks (swipe up).
Important: If there is no Russian in the list of languages, then the problem lies deeper β perhaps you have the wrong Google account region set up or an outdated version of services installed.

Method 3: Clearing the cache and Play Market data
Sometimes Google Play forgets its language settings because of a damaged cache.
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the Google Play Store and tap it.
- Select Warehouse β Clear cache and Clear data.
- Confirm the action and restart the application.
β οΈ Note: Data cleanup will reset all Play Market settings, including download history and preferences. However, it will not delete installed apps or payment information.
If the language hasnβt changed after cleaning, try removing the updates for the Play Market:
- π In the same Google Play Store menu, click on the three dots in the top corner.
- ποΈ Select Remove Updates.
- π Restart your phone and wait for the store to automatically update.
Method 4: Update Google Play Services
Outdated Google Play Services can cause store disruptions, including language issues, to update:
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find Google Play Services and check out its version.
- If an update is available, click Update. If not, delete the cache and data (as in method 3).
You can also update the services through the Play Market:
- π In the search bar, enter Google Play Services.
- π If you have an update button, press it.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| No Russian on the list of languages | The wrong Google account region | Change the region in the account settings (mode 5) |
| Language resets after rebooting | Conflict of system and applied language | Synchronize both parameters (method 1 and 2) |
| Play Market in China | Firmware for the Chinese market | Install global firmware or use VPN |
| Google services are not updated | Manufacturer's restrictions | Install APK manually with APKMirror |

Method 5: Change the Google Account Region
If previous methods failed, the problem may be in your Google account region, and by default, Play Market adapts to the country you sign up for, to change it:
- Open your browser and go to the Google Pay website (or Google Account Settings).
- In the Settings β Personal Information section, find the Region item.
- Click Change and select βRussiaβ (or another Russian-speaking country).
- Save the changes and wait up to 48 hours - sometimes synchronization takes time.
β οΈ Warning: Relocation will reset all subscriptions and balances of Google Play! If you have active subscriptions (like YouTube Premium or Google One), they will have to be re-issued.
After the change of region:
- π Reboot the phone.
- π± Open the Play Market and accept new terms of use.
- π Check if the Russian language is in the settings.

Changing your Google account region is an extreme method, and only use it if other methods fail, as it will affect the availability of content and payments.
Additional solutions for complex cases
If none of these methods worked, try these options:
- π§ Installation of global firmware: On some Xiaomi models (especially the Chinese version), the Play Market may not work correctly. ROM via Mi Flash Tool.
- π‘οΈ Use of the VPN: If you are outside Russia, connect to the Russian VPN-server (e.g. via ProtonVPN or Windscribe) and restart Play Market.
- π± Resetting: In extreme cases, reset to factory settings (Settings) β The phone. β Resetting your settings, but remember to back up your data!
