Changing your smartphone is always stress, not so much with a physical device as with the loss of accumulated digital data.
It’s especially frustrating to find that the new Xiaomi doesn’t have a list of hundreds of saved pages that you’ve been collecting for months or even years. Fortunately, the Android operating system and the MIUI (or HyperOS) shell offer a variety of ways to avoid this problem.
In this article, we will take a detailed look at all the current migration methods, from cloud synchronization to manual copying of database files.
Device preparation and selection of migration method
Before you start taking action, you need to make sure that both devices are ready for the data exchange procedure, the old phone should be charged at least 50%, and the new one should be fully ready for the initial setup.
There are three main ways to solve the problem: using a Google account, a cloud service Mi Cloud or a specialized application Mi Mover. The choice depends on which browser you use and where your data is stored.
If you prefer the standard Mi Browser browser, synchronization via Mi Account will be the most native and quick solution. For Chrome or Firefox users, methods are relevant through a Google profile or a browser developer account, respectively.
⚠️ Warning: Make sure both devices have a stable Wi-Fi connection.Sharing large amounts of data over a mobile network can cause unexpected costs or interruption of the process.
Synchronization with your Mi Cloud account
Xiaomi’s ecosystem offers a powerful tool for storing personal data, and to use this method, you need to log into your Mi Account on an old device.
Go to your phone settings and find Mi Account. In the sync menu, make sure that the switch opposite to Bookmarks (or Browser) is activated. The system automatically uploads data to the cloud storage.
On the new smartphone, sign in to the same account. When you first set up, the system will prompt you to restore data from the cloud. If the phone is already configured, just turn on sync in your account settings, and bookmarks will appear in the browser automatically.
- 🔒 Security: Data is transmitted over a secure channel and is only available to the account holder.
- 🔄 Automation: Changes on one device instantly appear on another.
- 📱 Universality: The method works on all Redmi models, POCO Xiaomi.
It's important to understand that free cloud storage is limited, and if you plan to sync not only bookmarks, but also photos from videos, there may not be enough space.
Use of Google Chrome and Google Account
For most Android users, Chrome is the de facto standard, and bookmarking is as simple as possible and requires no additional applications.
On your old phone, open your browser, click three dots in the corner, and select Settings → Sync. Make sure that bookmark sync is enabled with your Google account.
On a new device, when you first start Chrome, just log in to the same Google account. All your tabs, history, and saved passwords will pull up automatically in the background.
⚠️ Note: If you use incognito or guest profile mode, bookmarks from these sessions are not saved and cannot be moved through the cloud.
This method is particularly convenient because it is independent of the phone manufacturer, and you can easily switch from Samsung or Huawei to Xiaomi, while maintaining the familiar environment.
💡
Use the Tab Groups feature in Chrome before migrating to structure open pages by topic – this will make it easier to navigate on a new device.
Manual export and import through HTML-file
Sometimes cloud services are not available, or you want to have a physical copy of your data, and manual HTML export is ideal.
Open your browser on your old phone (like Chrome or Xiaomi’s standard browser). From the settings menu, look for “Bookmarks” and select “Export Bookmarks” or “Save to File.”
The saved file (usually bookmarks.html) must be transferred to a new phone, and can be done via Bluetooth, messenger or other means of communication. USB-On the new device, open your browser, select “Import Bookmarks” and specify the path to the file.
The path to the file is often hidden: /internal_storage/Download/bookmarks.htmlThis approach ensures that you will still have a backup copy even in the event of account locks or server issues.
| Method | Difficulty | Speed. | We need the Internet. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Cloud | Low. | Tall. | Yes. |
| Google Sync | Low. | Tall. | Yes. |
| HTML File | Medium | Medium | No (for transmission) |
| Mi Mover | Low. | Very high. | No (locally) |
Migration of data through the Mi Mover app
The official Mi Mover app is Xiaomi’s “heavy artillery” that allows you to flip not only bookmarks, but also apps, contacts, photos and system settings.
Install the app on both phones (on the new Xiaomi it is built into the system). Run the program, select the role of the device: "Sender" on the old and "Receiver" on the new one.
After the scan. QR-When you code and establish a connection, select System Data or Browser. Make sure the tick opposite the Bookmark is set and start the process.
☑️ Checklist before Mi Mover launch
The main advantage of the method is that the folder structure and bookmark order are preserved completely, including those that lie deep in the nested structure.
What do I do if the transmission is suspended?
Specificity of transfer in other browsers
Users of alternative browsers, such as Yandex, Opera or DuckDuckGo, will also not be left without data, and the principle of operation is the same for everyone – authorization in a personal profile.
In Yandex Browser, it is enough to enable synchronization in the settings through the Yandex account. Opera uses Opera Flow or synchronization through the Opera account. DuckDuckGo offers to create a backup in the form of an encrypted file that you need to manually transfer.
- 🦊 Firefox: Requires a Firefox account to sync between devices.
- 🌐 Edge: Integrated with Microsoft ecosystem, easy for Windows users.
- 🛡️ Brave: Uses a sync chain that needs to be activated by code on a new device.
⚠️ Note: When using browsers with the function "Encrypted" DNS» Or enhanced privacy, standard backup techniques may not work. Use the browser's built-in export features.
Solving synchronization problems and errors
Sometimes it doesn't go smoothly, and most people find that bookmarks don't appear immediately after sync is enabled, and 90 percent of the time or app cache is the problem.
Try clearing the browser cache on your new device through the Settings menu → Apps → [Your browser] → Storage → Clear the cache. Don’t confuse it with Clear Data, otherwise you’ll delete all local settings.
If you are using Mi Cloud and bookmarks are not loaded, check the account region. Servers in different countries may work at different speeds or have restrictions on the types of data synchronized.
💡
The most common mistake is logging into different accounts on different devices. Always double-check your email or phone number linked to the sync service.
In rare cases, complete removal and re-installation of the browser helps, which causes the application to re-request data from the server.
