Movie Search notifications on Xiaomi TVs can be annoying: constant reminders of new movies, rating updates or banner ads interrupt viewing, especially for owners of MI TV 4/5, Redmi Smart TV and other Android TV models, where the app is often installed by default and integrated into the system.
Unlike smartphones, where you can unsubscribe in two clicks, on Xiaomi TVs, this process is complicated by the limited interface and features of PatchWall, the brandβs brand shell. In this article, we will analyze all the working methods, from basic settings to radical measures like resetting an application or turning off autoboot, and you will learn why the standard βUnsubscribeβ button may not work and what to do if the Movie Search appears even after removal.
Important: The methods differ depending on the version of MIUI TV (e.g. MIUI TV 3.0 vs MIUI TV 4.0) and the model of the TV. If your Xiaomi TV is released before 2020, some menu items may be called differently - we will warn you about this separately.
1. Method: Unsubscribe through the Movie Search Notification Settings
The most obvious method is to use the appβs built-in options, but there are pitfalls: on some Xiaomi models, the βunsubscribeβ button may be hidden or inactive due to integration with PatchWall.
To try this method:
- Open the movie search on the TV.
- Go to the Profile section β Settings (or βοΈ β Notifications).
- Find the item Newsletter, Push-notifications or Recommendations.
- Turn off all sliders or click Unsubscribe from all mailings.
β οΈ Note: If notifications continue to arrive after these actions, then Kinopoisk uses the system push notifications through Google Play Services.
Why can the βunsubscribeβ button not work?
Also check if notifications are included in the system settings:
- Press the Home button on the remote β choose βοΈ Settings.
- Go to the Apps β Application management.
- Find Movie Search β Notifications β disable all permissions.
2. Method: Removal or disabling of the application
If the unsubscribe didn't work, the next step is to remove Kinopoisk completely, but on most Xiaomi TVs, this app is system-based and doesn't get removed in the standard way, and instead, it can be disabled or reset.
Instructions for removal (if possible):
- π± Go to Settings. β Annexes β Application management.
- π Find the movie search in the list.
- ποΈ If the Remove button is active, press it. If not, select Disable.
- π After turning off, restart the TV (Settings) β On TV. β Reboot).
β οΈ Attention: On models MI TV 5 Pro and later Movie Search can be part of PatchWall Launcher, in which case deleting it will cause interface failures:
- In the app menu, select Storage β Clear Data and Clear Cache.
- Then click Resetting (if available).
Save login/password from the Kinopoisk account (if linked)
Record the recommendations settings (if you use them)
Disable autostart (see Method 3)
Reboot the TV after resetting-->
Method: Disabling Autostart and Background Activity
The movie search can be triggered automatically when the TV is turned on or run in the background, sending notifications.
Step 1. Turn off autostart:
- π Go to Settings. β Annexes β Auto-start.
- π Find the Movie Search and turn off the slider.
Step 2: Limit background activity:
- π In the app menu, select the Battery. β Battery optimization (yes, even on TV!).
- π Find the movie search and set to limit background activity.
π‘ Useful advice: On some models (Redmi Smart) TV X43 Auto-launch is hidden in Special Opportunities to find it:
Settings β All settings β System β Special features β Auto-run applicationsπ‘
If you still see Movie Search on the home screen after you disable autoplay, reset PatchWall: Settings β Accounts and Sync β PatchWall Reset. This will bring back the standard interface without recommendations.
4. Method: Log out of your Mi Account
On Xiaomi TVs, Movie Search is often linked to a Mi Account. If you are logged in, Xiaomi servers can send notifications regardless of local settings.
How to log out:
- Open Settings β Accounts and Synchronization.
- Choose your Mi Account (usually displayed as an email or phone number).
- Click Delete Account or Sign Out.
- Confirm the action with a password.
β οΈ Note: After logging out of your account, you will lose access to:
- πΊ Synchronize data between Xiaomi devices.
- π¬ Personal film collections in the Film Search (if they are tied to the Mi Account).
- π Automatic firmware updates (on some models).
If you do not want to leave your account completely, try untieing Kinopoisk from Mi Account via the web version: go to account.xiaomi.com, find the Connected Services section and delete access for Kinopoisk.
5. Method: Block notifications via ADB (for advanced)
If none of the previous methods worked, the radical solution is to disable the notifications of the Movie Search through ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which requires connecting the TV to the computer, but is guaranteed to remove all push messages.
What you need:
- π» Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux.
- π USB-cable (to connect TV to PC).
- π οΈ Utility. ADB (You can download it here).
Step-by-step:
- Turn on USB debugging on your TV: Settings β About TV β Software version (click 7 times in a row until the message βYou became a developerβ) Settings β Additional β For developers β Debugging on USB (enable)
- Connect the TV to your computer via USB.
- Open the command line (or Terminal) and type: Adb devices Wait for your TV serial number to appear.
- Run the command to block the notifications of the Cinema Search: adb shell pm block ru.kinopoisk
- Reboot the TV.
β οΈ Note: pm block command only works on Android TV 9.0 and newer. Use the old versions:
adb shell pm hide ru.kinopoiskIf that doesnβt work, youβll have to uninstall the app entirely through ADB (risking system stability!).
π‘
Use ADB only if other methods have not worked. Wrong commands can cause the TV to crash.
Comparison of methods: which one to choose?
Depending on your TV model and your technical skills, there are different ways to do this, and the table below is a comparison of all the methods in terms of efficiency and complexity:
| Method | Efficiency | Difficulty | Suitable for models | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unsubscribe in the settings of the film search | ββ (low-key) | β (simple) | All models. | Often not working due to PatchWall integration |
| Deletion/deactivation of the application | βββ (middle-class) | ββ (easily) | MI TV 4/4S, Redmi Smart TV | You can't delete it on MI TV 5 or later. |
| Shutting down autostart | βββ (middle-class) | β (simple) | All models. | Does not block push notifications |
| Exit from Mi Account | ββββ (high-pitched) | ββ (easily) | All models. | Loss of sync with other Xiaomi devices |
| Blocking through ADB | βββββ (maximum) | ββββ (difficult) | MI TV 5 Pro, models on Android TV 9.0+ | Requires PC and technical skills |
Frequent problems and solutions
Even after unsubscribing, users face notifications returning, and consider typical situations and ways to solve them:
Problem 1: The movie search appears on the home screen after the update.
πΉ Solution: PatchWall updates often reset settings:
- π Turn off auto-start (Method 3).
- ποΈ Clear the Movie Search Data (Method 2).
Problem 2: Notifications come even after the application is deleted.
πΉ Solution: This means that the notifications are not sent by the app itself, but by Google Play Services:
Settings β Applications β Google Play Services β Notifications β DisableProblem 3: There is no "unsubscribe" button in the Movie Search settings.
πΉ Solution: This is typical for versions of the app older than 5.0.0. Update Movie Search via Google Play or use Method 4 (exit from Mi Account).
