Xiaomi Redmi 9 smartphone based on MIUI often comes with preinstalled applications that can not be removed by standard methods. They take up space in memory, consume battery power and can show annoying advertising. But there are several ways to completely disable or even remove system programs β both temporarily and permanently.
In this article, weβll discuss all the working methods, from simply turning off through settings to using ADB and manually deleting application files. Note that some methods require root rights or a computer connection, which weβll highlight separately with risk warnings.
If you want to simply hide an app from the menu or prevent it from running in the background, the first two ways are enough. More radical measures will be needed to completely remove system programs (such as Mi Browser, Mi Music or GetApps).
1. Disable the application through the MIUI settings
The safest and easiest way is to deactivate the application in the settings menu, which won't delete its files from the device, but will stop all background processes and hide the icon from the main menu, which works for most pre-installed programs, except for mission-critical system services.
Instructions:
- π± Open the Settings. β Annexes β Application management.
- π Enter the program name in the search bar (e.g. Mi Video or Cleaner).
- βοΈ Click on the name of the app β Disable (button at the bottom of the screen).
- β Confirm the action in the window that appears.
Once disabled, the application will no longer update, consume battery, or appear in the installed program list, but its files will remain in the device's memory. To return the application, repeat the same steps and click Enable.
β οΈ Note: Do not disable system services with the names com.android., miui. or google. β this can lead to unstable operation of the smartphone.
Check that the application is not a system service.|

2.Removal of updates and reset to factory version
Many pre-installed apps on Redmi 9 canβt be removed, but you can return them to the factory version by removing all updates, which is useful if the program starts to work incorrectly after the update or display ads.
How to do this:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Select the application you want (such as Mi Browser).
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner β Remove updates.
- Confirm the action.
After that, the program will return to the version that was installed on the smartphone out of the box. Please note: some applications (for example, Google Play Services) are updated automatically through the Play Market - to avoid this, turn off auto-update in the store settings.
| Annex | We can turn it off. | You can remove updates. | It can be removed completely. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Browser | β Yes. | β Yes. | β No, no root) |
| Mi Video | β Yes. | β Yes. | β No, no root) |
| GetApps | β Yes. | β Yes. | β Yes. ADB) |
| Google Play Services | β No. | β Yes. | β No. |
| Cleaner (Optimizer) | β Yes. | β Yes. | β Yes. ADB) |
Important: Removing updates for system applications (e.g. Google Play Services) may cause errors in other programs that depend on them.
3. Removal of applications via ADB (no root)
If you donβt have enough shutdowns and root rights, you can use ADB (Android Debug Bridge), a tool for debugging Android through your computer, which allows you to completely remove many pre-installed applications, including GetApps, Mi Browser and Analitics.
What you need:
- π» Computer with Windows, macOS or Linux.
- π USB-cable (preferably original).
- π± Included debugging by USB smartphone.
- π οΈ Installed Xiaomi drivers and package ADB Tools.
Step-by-step:
- Enable USB Debugging: Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version (click 7 times) Settings β Additional β For Developers β Debugging by USB
- Connect your smartphone to your computer and confirm your trust in the device.
- Open the command prompt (Windows) or terminal (macOS/Linux) and type: adb devices Make sure your device appears in the list.
- To remove the application, use the command: adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 name.packet For example, to delete Mi Browser: adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.browser
List of popular removal packages:
- π Mi Browser: com.android.browser
- π΅ Mi Music: com.miui.player
- π¦ GetApps: com.xiaomi.mipicks
- π Analitics: com.miui.analytics
- π§Ή Cleaner: com.miui.cleanmaster
β οΈ Note: Removing system packages (e.g., com.google. or com.android.) may cause your smartphone to fail. Before experimenting, back up through Settings β System system β Backup.
4. Complete removal via TWRP (root required)
If you're prepared for more radical measures and have custom TWRP reclaimers installed, you can physically remove application files from the system partition, which is suitable for advanced users, since it requires unlocking the bootloader and obtaining root rights.
Advantages of the method:
- ποΈ The application is deleted irrevocably, freeing up space in memory.
- π No need to repeat the procedure after resetting the settings.
- π‘οΈ You can even remove programs that are not amenable to ADB.
Instructions:
- Install TWRP Recovery and get root rights (for example, through Magisk).
- Boot to TWRP (clip Power + Volume up when turned on).
- Go to Advanced β File Manager.
- Open /system/app or /system/priv-app (depending on the location of the application).
- Find a folder with the name of the package (such as MiBrowser) and delete it.
- Reboot your smartphone.
List of paths to popular applications:
/system/app/MiBrowser β Mi Browser
/system/priv-app/MiMusic β Mi Music
/system/app/MiPick β GetApps

5. Disabling applications in safe mode
If an application freezes or interferes with your smartphone, but you donβt want to delete it forever, you can temporarily turn it off via Safe Mode, which only downloads system programs, and all third-party (including preinstalled) are blocked.
How to run Safe Mode on Redmi 9:
- Press the power button to appear off menu.
- Press the Turn Off icon (or Reboot in some versions of MIUI).
- In the window that appears, select Safe Mode.
- Wait until the smartphone reboots (the bottom left corner will be the inscription Safe mode).
In safe mode:
- π All third-party applications will be disabled.
- π You can remove or disable the problem program through settings.
- π± Only system services (calls) are available, SMS, basics).
To get out of Safe Mode, just restart your smartphone.
π‘
If the smartphone doesn't go out of safe mode after rebooting, check to see if the volume button is clamped, sometimes it interferes with normal booting.
6.Use of third-party utilities (e.g. Debloater)
For those who do not want to work with ADB manually, there are special utilities, such as Universal Android Debloater or MIUI Hidden Settings. They allow you to massively disable or remove preinstalled applications through the GUI.
Advantages:
- π₯οΈ Convenient interface with checkboxes.
- π Automatically identify βsafeβ for removing applications.
- π€ Ability to back up before deletion.
How to use Universal Android Debloater:
- Download the utility from the official GitHub.
- Connect Redmi 9 to your computer with USB Debugging enabled.
- Launch the program and wait for the list of applications to load.
- Check the boxes for unnecessary programs (the utility will tell you which can be removed).
- Press Apply and confirm the action.
List of recommended packet removals (according to the XDA Developers community):
com.miui.analytics β Analytics collection
com.xiaomi.mipicks β GetApps
com.miui.hybrid β Hybrid services (advertising)
com.miui.bugreport - Error Reports
com.miui.cleanmaster - Optimizerβ οΈ Note: Some utility (for example, MIUI Hidden Settings) require an unlocked bootloader, and their use on the official firmware can lead to the device being locked through the Mi Account.
7.What to do if the application does not turn off?
Sometimes, even after all the manipulations, the application continues to work or reappears after the reboot.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The app returns after restarting | Auto Update via Play Market | Turn off auto-update in Google Play settings |
| The "Disable" button is inactive. | The application is a critical system service | Use ADB or TWRP (at your own risk) |
| Error in Deleting Through ADB | Incorrect package name or lack of rights | Check the name of the package through adb shell pm list packages |
| The app continues to consume the battery | Background processes are not completely stopped | Freeze the app via Greenify or Brevent |
If none of these methods worked, there are two options:
- Swipe your smartphone to custom firmware (such as LineageOS or Pixel Experience) where there are no pre-installed Xiaomi apps.
- Reset your settings to factory via Settings β System β Reset (but this will delete all your data!).
π‘
Before radical actions (firmware, TWRP removal), always back up through Settings β System β Backup or TWRP (if installed).
