Why Xiaomi Search History is Pasting Up and How to Fix It
Xiaomi devices based on MIUI actively collect data about user queries, from system search by device to history in the Mi Browser browser and third-party applications. This is convenient for quick access to frequently used queries, but poses risks to privacy. For example, if you are looking for a gift for a partner or checking for symptoms of disease, this data can accidentally pop up in clues.
Unlike pure Android, MIUI integrates search functions more deeply: they work not only in the browser, but also in the launcher, settings, and in branded services like Mi Cloud. Standard cleaning methods (for example, through the browser menu) often leave traces in system logs. In this article, we will discuss how to delete search history at all levels, from visible hints to hidden files.
It is important to understand that some data (such as from Google Search) is synced with the account and can be restored after cleaning.
Method 1: Clearing History in MIUI System Search
MIUI system search (called swipe down on the home screen) stores the requests separately from the browser to delete them:
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- In the search bar, type Search and select Quick Search Box (or MIUI Search in newer versions).
- Go to Warehouse → Clear the data and confirm the action.
This will delete all saved queries, but will not affect prompts from Google or other search engines, and will require separate cleaning (see Method 3).

⚠️ Note: On some models (Redmi Note 10 Pro, POCO X3 Pro) after cleaning Quick Search Box, the search interface language may reset. Restore it in the application settings.
Method 2: Delete history in the Mi Browser browser
Mi Browser is a standard browser on Xiaomi devices, and it saves the search history separate from the system data.
- 📱 Open the Mi Browser and click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
- 🗑️ Choose a History. → Clear the data.
- ⏳ Specify the period (for example, All Time) and tick the Search History and Cash.
- 🔄 Confirm the cleanup.
If you use Google Chrome or another browser, the procedure is similar, but the path may be different. For example, in Chrome, you need to go to Settings → History → Clear History.

Method 3: Cleaning up Google and Other Search Engine Tips
If you use the Google Search widget or enter queries through the search bar on the home screen, the data is stored in the Google account.
- Go to myactivity.google.com (sign up with the same account as your phone).
- In the filters, select Search and specify the period (for example, For all time).
- Click Delete and confirm the action.
For Bing or Yandex, the procedure is similar, but it is performed on their official sites in the “Search History” sections. On Xiaomi devices, a search from Baidu (Chinese search engine) can also be active – its data is cleared through the Mi Account settings.

⚠️ Note: If you are logged in to a Google account on multiple devices, clearing your history on myactivity.google.com will delete it everywhere. To avoid this, temporarily disable sync in your account settings on your smartphone.
Method 4: Reset search data via MIUI Optimization
MIUI firmware has a hidden MIUI Optimization tool that manages system processes, including search prompts.
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Phone and click on MIUI Version 7 times.
- Return to Settings → Additional → For developers and enable USB debugging.
- Connect your phone to your PC and execute the command in ADB: adb shell pm clear com.miui.search
This method removes all MIUI search data, including personalized prompts and cache. Once executed, the device may need to be rebooted.

Method 5: Manually cleanse search files (for advanced ones)
If standard methods don’t work, you can manually delete files with search history, which requires root access or a file manager with superuser rights (such as Root Explorer).
The path to MIUI search history files:
/data/data/com.miui.search/databases/search_history.db
/data/data/com.android.quicksearchbox/databases/quicksearchbox.dbDelete these files and restart the device. Please note that improper actions with the system folders can cause MIUI to malfunction.

Manual file cleaning is the most radical method, but it is guaranteed to remove all traces of search queries, including those that are not visible in the interface.

How to Prevent the Preservation of Search History in the Future
To prevent the search history from accumulating again, configure the device as follows:
- 🔒 Turn off search data synchronization in Settings → Accounts. → Mi Account → Synchronization.
- 🌐 In your browser (Mi Browser or Chrome), disable the option to Save Search History in Privacy Settings.
- 🛡️ Use private mode (incognito) for sensitive queries.

For complete anonymity, consider using alternative search engines that don’t save history (like DuckDuckGo or Startpage).
On Xiaomi devices with MIUI 13 and later, the default search history is encrypted, but still remains vulnerable to recovery through Mi Cloud backups. To completely eliminate leakage, disable backup in your account settings.
