Why itβs important to clean up your browser history on Xiaomi and how to do it right
Every time you open a Yandex Browser site on a Xiaomi smartphone (whether itβs a Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 or the flagship Mi 13 series), the device retains traces of your activity. Itβs not just your browsing history, but also cookies, cached files, auto-fill data, and even geolocation tags. As they accumulate, this data takes up space in memory, slows down your browser and can become a vulnerability to your privacy.
Xiaomi phones feature MIUI firmware, which sometimes modifies standard Android settings. For example, in some versions, browsers are integrated by default into the system menu Security, not the settings of the application. This means that standard instructions for cleaning the history for βpureβ Android may not work on Xiaomi. In this article, we will discuss current ways for MIUI 12-14 and Android 11-14, including hidden features and circumventing possible restrictions.
Before you start, consider that clearing history doesnβt always solve performance problems. If the browser slows down even after deleting data, it could be overloading the MIUI system cache or background activity of other applications, which would require more deep optimization, as weβll discuss at the end of this article.
Method 1: Standard cleaning through the settings of Yandex Browser
The most obvious and safe method is to use built-in browser tools, which is suitable for most Xiaomi models, including the Redmi 10C, POCO M5 and newer devices.
- Open Yandex Browser and tap on the tripoint icon (β°) lower-right.
- In the menu, select Settings (cog icon).
- Scroll down to the Privacy section and click Clear Data.
- Check the boxes across the street: π Visit history β a list of all the sites you open. πͺ Cookies and site data β information for authorization and personalization. ποΈ Cached files β temporary data to speed up page loading.

Please note that if you are synchronizing with a Yandex account, the history can be saved on Yandex servers. To delete it completely, go to your personal account and clean the data manually.

Method 2: Cleaning through MIUI system settings
If for some reason the standard method does not work (for example, due to browser glitches or limitations) MIUI), You can use system tools. This is universal for all Xiaomi devices, including old models on the market. MIUI 11:
- Open the phone settings (cog icon on the main screen).
- Go to the Appendix section β Application management.
- In the list, find Yandex Browser (or Yandex Browser for global versions).
- Slip it on the vault. β Clear the data.
- Choose: π§Ή Clear the cache β delete temporary files. ποΈ Clear all data β reset the browser to factory settings (including history, bookmarks and settings).
β οΈ Warning: Clear all data will delete all personal browser settings, including saved passwords and bookmarks. If you are not sure, it is better to export important data through Settings first β Import/Export of bookmarks.
On some MIUI firmware (e.g., Xiaomi 12T with global version), the path may be different: instead of App Management, look for All Apps β System filter. If Yandex Browser doesnβt appear in the list, try updating it through Google Play β sometimes this solves the problem with display in the settings.

Method 3: Quick cleaning through the Security menu (for the first time only) MIUI)
MIUI firmware has a built-in Security tool that allows you to clear cache and application data without diving deep into settings. This method is especially convenient for Redmi and POCO users, where standard paths can be hidden:
- Open the Security app (the shield icon on the home screen).
- Go to the Cleanup tab (or Accelerate in new versions).
- Wait until the system scan is completed.
- In the list, find Yandex Browser and tick next to it.
- Click Clean β Deep Clean (if available)
The advantage of this method is that it not only deletes browser cache, but also associated temporary files that may remain in the system. However, be careful: deep cleaning sometimes deletes authorization data in other applications if they are associated with Yandex services.
| Cleaning method | What's removed | Implementation time | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through browser settings | History, cookies, cache | 10-20 seconds | Minimum |
| Through system settings | Cash + all data (optional) | 30 seconds | Loss of bookmarks/passwords |
| Through "Security." | Cash + temporary MIUI files | 1-2 minutes | Possible failures in other applications |
| Through Recovery Mode | Cache all the apps. | 5-10 minutes | High (risk of system resetting) |
Method 4: Cleaning through Recovery Mode (for power users)
If Yandex Browser is not stable even after a standard cleaning, the problem may lie in the damaged system cache, in which case cleaning through Recovery Mode will help.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Volume Up + Power buttons before the MI logo appears.
- In the Recovery menu, select Wipe & Reset (use volume buttons for navigation, power button for selection).
- Choose Wipe Cache (not to be confused with Wipe Data β it will result in a complete reset!).
- Confirm the action and wait for the process to be completed.
- Restart your phone via Reboot.
To set up automatic cleaning:
- Install one of the apps (such as CCleaner) from Google Play.
- Run a system scan.
- In the results, find the Browsers or Applications section.
- Tag Yandex Browser and select what to delete (history, cache, cookies).
- Set up an automatic cleaning schedule in the application settings.
Warning: Some "optimizers" (especially from unknown sources) may collect your data or display intrusive advertising. Use only proven high-ranking apps on Google Play.

If your browser is slower after cleaning, try turning off the Turbo mode feature in its settings, which sometimes conflicts with MIUI optimization.
