Why upgrade SberBank Online to Xiaomi Redmi and what new versions give
The SberBank Online app is a key financial management tool, and its regular update on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones (be it Redmi Note 12, Redmi 10 or POCO X5) is not just a recommendation, but a necessity. New versions bring not only bug fixes, but also critical security improvements: for example, in the updates of 2023-2026, the bank added phishing protection through Push notifications and two-factor authentication via SMS + biometrics. Without the latest version, you risk an error “Old version of the application” when you try to log in.
In addition, from March 1, 2026, SberBank blocks access to certain functions (for example, transfers to other banks’ cards or utilities payments) in applications older than 6 months. This also applies to Xiaomi users on MIUI 13/14, where automatic updates sometimes get lost due to battery optimization. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways of updating – from standard through Google Play to manually installing APK from the official website, and also solve typical errors such as “failed to update the application” or “Insufficient memory”.
Important: If your Redmi runs MIUI Global (rather than Chinese firmware), there should be no compatibility issues, but owners of root-rights or custom firmware (LineageOS, Pixel Experience) will have to consider the nuances, which we will discuss in a separate section.
Method 1: Update via Google Play is the easiest method
For most Xiaomi Redmi users, this will be the best way to do it. The Google Play Store automatically checks for updates to installed apps, but sometimes the process gets stuck.
- Open the Google Play Store on your Redmi.
- Slip on the profile icon in the upper right corner → select App and Device Management.
- Updates tab available → If you don't have one, you can find Sberbank Online on the list.
- If the button is inactive, check your internet connection (better use Wi-Fi, as the file weighs ~100-150MB).

If your Xiaomi Redmi runs on Chinese firmware (MIUI China), where there is no Google Play, you can try upgrading SberBank Online through the Mi App Store (if the app is available there).
Alternative path:
- 🌐 Use a global store – install Google Play on Chinese firmware via Xiaomi.eu (instructions are on their forum).
- 📱 Dual services – some users install both the Mi App Store and Google Play in parallel, but this can cause conflicts.
- 🔗 APK via browser – if the stores do not fit, download APK directly as described in Method 2.
⚠️ Note: On Redmi’s Chinese firmware, banking applications may not work smoothly due to lack of Google SafetyNet certification. Before upgrading, check SafetyNet status through the SafetyNet Test app (available on Google Play). If the test is not passed, some features of SberBank Online (for example, scanning) QR-Payment codes may be blocked.
Solving errors when updating on Xiaomi Redmi

Update to Redmi with root rights or custom firmware
If your Xiaomi Redmi runs on custom firmware (LineageOS, Pixel Experience, ArrowOS) or has root access, the process of updating SberBank Online is complicated. Banking applications often check the integrity of the system through SafetyNet, and if it is violated can block access.
To update the application without any problems:
- 🔒 Hiding root – use Magisk with MagiskHide Props Config to hide root from banking applications. In Magisk settings, turn on Hide Magisk and reboot your device.
- 📱 Pass SafetyNet – Install Universal SafetyNet Fix (available in the Magisk repository) and then check the status through the SafetyNet Test app.
- 🔄 Hand-mounted APK — If the automatic update does not work, download it. APK from the official website and install manually as described in Method 2.
⚠️ Note: Some custom firmware (e.g. HavocOS) may not support Google Play Services, making it impossible to use banking applications. MIUI Global or use the web version of SberBank Online through the browser.

How to enable automatic update of SberBank Online on Xiaomi
To avoid manually monitoring new versions, set up automatic updates. On Xiaomi Redmi, it is done as follows:
- Open Google Play Store → click on the profile icon → Settings.
- Select Network → Auto-Update Applications.
- Please only use Wi-Fi (recommended) or anytime (if you have unlimited rates).
- Return to App and Device Management → Find SberBank Online → turn on the Auto Update switch.
MIUI also has a built-in update optimization feature:
