If you own a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone, you’ve probably noticed a strange name on your installed app list — “Indonesia” — that doesn’t get removed in standard ways, doesn’t have a desktop icon, and often raises questions like what the program is, why it’s needed, and can it be safely removed? In this article, we’ll go into detail about the origin of the app, its functions (or lack thereof), and how to disable or completely remove it without risking the system.

Many users mistake Indonesia for a virus or spyware, especially if the smartphone is not purchased from an official store. In fact, it is simpler: it is one of many regional applications that Xiaomi pre-installes on devices for certain markets. Its presence does not mean that your phone is infected - but it does not benefit users from it from Russia or Europe. What is the “Indonesia” app on Xiaomi?

The Indonesia app (full name of the package is com.miui.indonesia or com.xiaomi.indonesia) is a service software that Xiaomi installs on smartphones intended for sale in Indonesia, and it falls into the category of “region-specific apps” that include localized services, news feeds, advertising modules or tools for working with local carriers.

Unlike standard applications like Google Play Services or Mi Account, Indonesia does not perform system-critical functions.

• 📱 Content localization – adapting the interface to the Indonesian market (e.g. news, weather, advertising).
• 📡 Integration with local services – support for payment systems, telecom operators or government portals of Indonesia.
• 🔄 Update regional data – synchronize with Xiaomi servers for a specific region.

For users from other countries, this application is useless, as:

1. It does not interact with Russian or European services.
2. It does not have a Russian-language interface (if it opens).

After the shutdown:

The most reliable way to get rid of Indonesia and other regional apps is to install an official global firmware, which will return the phone to a “clean” state, as if you bought it from a European store.

Step-by-step:

1. Download the firmware for your model from https://new.c.mi.com/global/miuidownload/index (choose Global or EEA).
2. Unlock the bootloader (see the previous section).
3. Flick through Mi Flash Tool: 1. Unpack the downloaded archive with firmware. 2. Install Mi Flash Tool on PC. 3. Transfer the phone to Fastboot mode. 4. In Mi Flash Tool, select the firmware folder and press Refresh. 5. Press Flash and wait for completion.

After flashing:

• 📱 «Indonesia and other regional apps will disappear.
• 🌐 Support for Russian language and European services will appear.
• 🔄 Updates will be available through official Xiaomi channels.

Important: when you flash it, all data will be erased. Back up your photos, contacts and apps in advance.
