Have you been looking for a recording of an important conversation on your Xiaomi, but you can't find the file? Or want to set up an automatic recording of calls, but you don't know where this feature is turned on? In Redmi, POCO and other Xiaomi ranges, the recordings of conversations are stored in non-obvious places, and the recording settings are hidden deep in the menu. In this article, we will examine:

Xiaomi has a unique feature: there is no universal path to recording, depending on the version of MIUI (12, 13, 14 or HyperOS), the smartphone model (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T), and even the firmware region, the location of files may vary, and we have collected up-to-date data for all modern devices of the brand.
1. Where the default conversation records are stored on Xiaomi
In most cases, audio calls are stored in the deviceโs internal memory via one of these pathways:
- ๐ /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ โ standard-position MIUI 12โ14 HyperOS;
- ๐ /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/ โ Alternative path on some models (POCO F4, Redmi K50);
- ๐ /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.providers.media/ โ If the recordings were created through third-party applications.
Important: these folders are hidden by default. To see them, turn on the display of hidden files in any file manager (for example, in the standard Files from Xiaomi or Total Commander).
- Open the files. โ press three points (โฎ) top-right;
- Select Settings โ Show hidden files;
- Return to the root catalog and follow one of the paths indicated.
If the folders call_rec If you don't call, the call recording has never been activated on your device.
2. How to enable automatic recording of conversations
Xiaomiโs call recording function works via the standard Phone app, but in some regions (e.g. the EU) it may be disabled due to legal restrictions.
Instructions for MIUI 14/HyperOS:
- Open the phone application;

- Select a Call Record (or Call Recording)
- Activate the Automatic Recording Switch.
If you don't have a record, your firmware doesn't support the function.

Connect your phone to your PC, enable USB debugging (Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI Version โ 7 times click on the build number โ Return to Additional โ For Developers) and execute the command:
adb shell settings put global call_recording_enabled 1After the reboot, the phone's settings will show a call record. Please note that this method may not work on EU firmware.
Note: Since 2023, Google has been blocking access to the API for recording calls for third-party apps in Android 12+. On Xiaomi with MIUI 13+ and HyperOS, recording can only work through the standard Phone app.
3. Record file formats and names
Call records on Xiaomi are saved in.amr or.mp3 format (newer versions of MIUI).
- ๐ Phone number or contact name (for example, +79123456789_20260515_1430.amr);
- ๐ Date and time in the format of GYYYYYDD BSC;
- ๐ข Number of calls (if there were several calls with one subscriber during the day).

- If the file is not played, rename the extension from.amr to.mp3.

4.Why the records are missing and how to recover them
Frequent reasons for the disappearance of records:

If the records have been deleted, try to restore them with DiskDigger:
- Download DiskDigger from Google Play;
- Run a full scan (root rights are required for deep search)
- Filter the results by expanding.amr or.mp3.
- Save the files found to the cloud or memory card.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Do not install new apps or write data to your phone until you recover! Each new record reduces the chances of successful recovery of deleted files.
5 How to transfer the recordings to another phone or PC
Methods of file transfer:
- ๐ฑ Through cable. USB: Connect your phone to your PC in File Transfer mode and copy the folder call_rec;
- โ๏ธ Cloud storage: upload files to Google Drive, Mi Cloud or Yandex.Disk;
- ๐ค Po Po Po Bluetooth/Wi-Fi: Use apps like Send Anywhere or Xender;
- ๐พ To the memory card: move the files to the folder /storage/XXXX-XXXX/DCIM/ (where XXXX-XXXX โ ID yours SD-map).
To automate the process:
- Install Automate or Tasker from Google Play
- Create a task to copy new files from call_rec cloudy;
- Set up the trigger for the event New file in the folder.

7 Legal aspects of recording conversations
In most countries, recording telephone conversations is only permitted with the consent of the interlocutor.
- ๐ท๐บ Russia: recording is allowed without notice if you are a participant in the conversation (Article 23 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation);
- ๐บ๐ฆ Ukraine: At least one of the interlocutors must agree;
- ๐ช๐บ EU: rules vary by country (in Germany, recording without consent is prohibited, in France โ allowed for personal use).
Recommendations:
- ๐ข Notify the interlocutor of the recording (for example: โConversation is recorded to fix the agreements");
- ๐ Keep your records in a secure place (do not publish them in public);
- โ๏ธ Use the records only for legitimate purposes (evidence in court, reminder of important details).
If you plan to use records as evidence (for example, in disputes with banks or support services), clarify the file format requirements. Some organizations only accept.mp3 with the date/time in the metadata.
