1. Where the default conversation records are stored on Xiaomi

In most cases, audio calls are stored in the device’s internal memory via one of these pathways:

• 📁 /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ — standard-position MIUI 12–14 HyperOS;
• 📁 /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/ — Alternative path on some models (POCO F4, Redmi K50);
• 📁 /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.providers.media/ — If the recordings were created through third-party applications.

Important: these folders are hidden by default. To see them, turn on the display of hidden files in any file manager (for example, in the standard Files from Xiaomi or Total Commander).

1. Open the files. → press three points (⋮) top-right;
2. Select Settings → Show hidden files;
3. Return to the root catalog and follow one of the paths indicated.

If the folders call_rec If you don't call, the call recording has never been activated on your device.

2. How to enable automatic recording of conversations

Xiaomi’s call recording function works via the standard Phone app, but in some regions (e.g. the EU) it may be disabled due to legal restrictions.

Instructions for MIUI 14/HyperOS:

3. Select a Call Record (or Call Recording)
4. Activate the Automatic Recording Switch.

After the reboot, the phone's settings will show a call record. Please note that this method may not work on EU firmware.

Note: Since 2023, Google has been blocking access to the API for recording calls for third-party apps in Android 12+. On Xiaomi with MIUI 13+ and HyperOS, recording can only work through the standard Phone app.

3. Record file formats and names

Call records on Xiaomi are saved in.amr or.mp3 format (newer versions of MIUI).

• 📅 Date and time in the format of GYYYYYDD BSC;
• 🔢 Number of calls (if there were several calls with one subscriber during the day).

1. Copy the file on your PC or open it through any audio player on your phone (such as VLC or MX Player).
2. If the file is not played, rename the extension from.amr to.mp3.

If the records have been deleted, try to restore them with DiskDigger:

1. Download DiskDigger from Google Play;
2. Run a full scan (root rights are required for deep search)
3. Filter the results by expanding.amr or.mp3.
4. Save the files found to the cloud or memory card.

5 How to transfer the recordings to another phone or PC

Methods of file transfer:

If Xiaomi’s standard feature doesn’t work, try these apps (tested on the Redmi Note 11 and POCO X5 Pro):

For installation:

1. Download APK from the official developer website (for example, Cube ACR);
2. Allow installation from unknown sources (Settings → Applications → Special Access → Installation of Unknown Applications);
3. Launch the application and provide all the permissions requested.

⚠️ Note: Call recording apps may conflict with Xiaomi's standard Phone app. Turn off auto recording in settings before installation MIUI.

7 Legal aspects of recording conversations

In most countries, recording telephone conversations is only permitted with the consent of the interlocutor.

• 🇷🇺 Russia: recording is allowed without notice if you are a participant in the conversation (Article 23 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation);
• 🇺🇦 Ukraine: At least one of the interlocutors must agree;
