Have you ever put a reminder on Xiaomi but couldn't find it at the right time? Or tried to figure out where saved notifications went after a firmware update? This problem is familiar to many owners of Redmi, POCO or Mi smartphones - the MIUI interface (and now HyperOS) regularly changes the location of key features, including reminders. Unlike iPhone or "pure" Android, here they can hide in non-obvious sections - or even depend on the version of the shell.
In this article, we will not only show you where to find reminders in Xiaomi, but also reveal all the nuances from the standard Notes app to hidden Calendar functions and sync with Mi Account. You will learn how to restore deleted reminders, why they may not work, and how to configure notifications so that they do not get lost after the reboot. And also compare how reminders work in MIUI 14, HyperOS and on different models (Xiaomi 13, Redmi Note 12, POCO F5).
1. Standard place: Notes appendix (Notes)
In 80 percent of cases, Xiaomi reminders are created through the Notes app, which is pre-installed on all MIUI and HyperOS devices, but its icon may vary depending on the regional firmware.
- π± Method 1: Find the Notes icon (yellow or orange pencil notebook) on the home screen. If it's not available, swipe down the screen and search for Notes.
- π Method 2: Open the Tools folder (if you have one on your device) β it often hides system utilities, including Notes.
- βοΈ Method 3: Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management and find Notes in the list. From here you can open the app or pin it to the home screen.
Inside the Reminder Notes are created as follows:
- Open any note or create a new one (button + in the lower right corner).
- Click on the β° icon (alarm clock) in the bottom toolbar.
- Choose date, time and repeatability (once, daily, weekly, etc.).
- Save β the reminder will appear in the notification list and calendar.
π‘
If Notes donβt have an alarm button, update the app via Google Play or Mi App Store. In older versions, the reminder feature was a separate module.
Important: Memos from Notes sync with Mi Account if you are logged in to Xiaomi, which means they will be available on other devices (such as Xiaomi Pad or Mi Band), but if you are using guest mode or not authorized, reminders will only be stored locally and may disappear after resetting.
2.Alternative source: Calendar (Calendar)
A less obvious but equally important place is the Calendar app, which is often ignored by users, although it supports reminders with more flexible settings than Notes.
- π Set a reminder a few days before the event (in Notes only an hour/day).
- π Set up recurring events with exceptions (e.g., "every Monday except holidays").
- π Sync with Google Calendar (if you add a Google account).
To create a reminder in the calendar:
- Open the app (an icon with a date or Calendar inscription).
- Click + in the lower right corner and select Event or Reminder (depending on version).
- Fill in the fields: name, date/time, repetition, notification (in 5 minutes, 1 hour, etc.).
- Save β the event will appear on the calendar and in the notification list.
The main difference from Notes is that reminders are time-specific, not a note, so you can't attach a reminder to a text just to create a separate event, but the calendar has a feature to view all reminders in one list (reminder tab or notification tab).
3. Where to look for saved reminders: 5 places in the system
If you have created a reminder but canβt find it, check these places in order of priority:
| Place. | How to open | What's in there? |
|---|---|---|
| Notification panel | Swipe down from the top edge of the screen β Notifications tab | Active reminders (until activated) |
| Notes appendix | Open the note β tap on β° below | All reminders tied to notes |
| Annex βCalendarβ | Reminder or Events tab | Selected events with notifications |
| Mi Account (cloud) | Settings β Xiaomi Account β Mi Cloud β Notes / Calendar | Synchronized reminders (if synchronization is enabled) |
| Google Calendar | Open Calendar β Select a Google Account | Reminders created through Google (if you have added an account) |
The critical nuance is that if you delete the reminder note in Notes, the reminder itself will disappear, even if it was already on the notification list.

4.Why reminders don't work: 7 reasons and solutions
One of the most common problems is that reminders don't come at the scheduled time, and here are the main reasons and ways to fix them:
- π« Notifications disabled: Go to Settings β Notifications β Notes / Calendar and enable permission to show notifications. Also check if the app has been added to Sleep Mode (Settings β Battery β Sleep Mode).
- β° Wrong Time: If the phone has manual time set, reminders may not work correctly. Enable automatic sync in Settings β Additional β Date and time.
- π Battery Optimization: MIUI and HyperOS aggressively close the background. Add Notes and Calendar to the list of Protected Apps (Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization).
- π΅ Do Not Disturb Mode: Check if DND or No Sound is on in the audio settings. Reminders may come without sound or vibration.
- π Settings Reset: Once reset to factory settings, reminders from Notes will disappear unless sync with Mi Account was enabled.
- π± Firmware Update: After major updates (e.g., from MIUI 13 to HyperOS), reminders may fly. Check for them in the Mi Cloud.
- π οΈ Application Error: If reminders stop working after updating Notes or Calendar, clear the app cache in Settings β Applications β Application Management β Notes/Calendar β Clear the cache.

HyperOS is a big deal: Xiaomiβs new shell has toughened its battery optimization algorithms. If you notice reminders are late or not coming at all, try turning off the Adaptive Battery feature in your power settings.
5 Hidden features: how to make reminders more effective
Few people know, but Xiaomi has a few hidden chips that make reminders more convenient:
- π Voice reminders: You can create a voice reminder in Notes. Open a note, click on the π€ icon (microphone) and say a text indicating the time (e.g., "Remind me to report tomorrow at 15:00)" It only works on Chinese and global Xiao-enabled firmware AI.
- π Location reminders: In a calendar (not all versions) you can geo-locate a notification, such as "Remind me to buy milk when I'm near the store." To do this, select Location and provide an address when creating an event.
- π Automatic Repetition: The calendar has complicated repetition rules, like "every third Thursday of the month" or "every two months," which is convenient for regular payments or appointments.
- π File Attachment: You can attach a photo, document or voice recording to the reminder in Notes, for example, you can attach a screenshot with props to the "Pay receipt" reminder.
Another useful feature is exporting reminders, and if you want to transfer them to another phone or save a backup:
- Open the calendar.
- Go to Settings β Import/Export.
- Choose Export and save the file in.ics format (it can be imported on another device).
π‘
Voice reminders and geolocation only work on Xiao AI-enabled firmware (Chinese and some global versions), which can be disabled on European firmware.
6 How to Restore Deleted Reminders
If you accidentally deleted a reminder, the chances of recovery depend on where it was created:
- π From Notes: Check the Recycle Bin in the app (section in the left side menu). Deleted notes are stored there for 30 days. If the Recycle Bin is empty but sync with Mi Account was enabled, try recovering through Mi Cloud (web version or Settings β Xiaomi Account β Mi Cloud β Notes β Recover).
- π From Calendar: If an event has been synced to Google Calendar, check it in the web version of Google Calendar (calendar.google.com). For local events, recovery is only possible from a backup (if it was created through Settings β System β Backup).
β οΈ Warning: If you reset your phone to factory settings without a backup and you didn't use Mi Account, it's impossible to restore reminders. They're stored in a local database that's cleared when you reset.
For future cases, we recommend:
- Enable automatic sync with Mi Account or Google.
- Regularly back up through Settings β System β Backup.
- Use third-party apps (such as Google Keep or TickTick) if Xiaomiβs standard tools seem unreliable.
7 MIUI and HyperOS Comparison: Where Reminders Work Best
With the release of HyperOS (replacing MIUI on new devices like the Xiaomi 14 or Redmi K70), the logic of reminders has changed a little.
| Function | MIUI 14 | HyperOS |
|---|---|---|
| Reminder storage | Appendices Notes and Calendar are separated | Mi Home integration β reminders can be linked to smart home devices |
| Voice reminders | Only works with Xiao AI (Chinese firmware) | Support for voice commands via Google Assistant on global firmware |
| Synchronization | Only with Mi Account or Google (depending on the app) | Sync with Xiaomi Cloud (new cloud that integrates all services) |
| Notifications | Often blocked by battery optimization | More flexible exception settings for background processes |
| Interface. | Reminders in Notes Hiding Behind Icon β° | Separate Reminder tab in the Calendar with filters by date/type |
If you upgrade from MIUI to HyperOS, we recommend:
- Before updating, export all reminders from the Calendar to the.ics file.
- After the update, check if the sync settings with Mi Account have fallen off.
- Reconfigure battery exceptions for Notes and Calendar.
HyperOS promises more stable reminders, but at the time of its release (2026) it still has bugs. For example, some users complain that reminders from Notes are duplicated in the Calendar. If you encounter such a problem, try disabling Notes sync with Mi Cloud in your account settings.
