Modern Xiaomi smartphones, which run on Android and the proprietary shell MIUI or HyperOS, provide users with many ways to access email correspondence. However, when faced with a new model or after resetting, many owners are lost in the abundance of icons and menus, not knowing exactly where the desired functionality is located.

System application "Mail" and its location

In most cases, when asked where the email is on a Xiaomi phone, users search for a standard system application, usually called “Mail” or “Email”, and is painted blue or white with the characteristic envelope symbol.

However, if you cleared the desktop or moved the icons, the program could be in the general menu of all applications, you need to swipe from the bottom up to open the list of all installed programs and use the search bar at the top of the screen, type in the word “mail” or “Email”, and the system automatically highlights the desired icon.

It is worth noting that in the latest versions of HyperOS and MIUI 14, Xiaomi sometimes combines notification features. The system application may not display emails on the lock screen unless the appropriate permission is configured. Check the notification settings for this particular application to keep abreast of incoming messages.

You can find Gmail in the Google folder on your desktop or through a shared app list, and it's unique in that it can aggregate emails from different boxes. By adding accounts from other providers to your Gmail settings, you can read all your correspondence in one place without switching between different programs.

To add another box to Gmail, click on the profile avatar in the upper right corner and select “Add another account.” The system will prompt you to select the account type (Google, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.), after which you will need to enter your login and password.

It’s important to understand the difference between a Google account that you need to run a Play Market store and just an added email inbox for correspondence. Deleting a Google account from your device will result in you losing access to your purchased apps, contacts and photos in Google Photos, so be extremely careful when managing accounts in the settings section.

Tools folder and system utilities

One of the features of MIUI is that it groups system applications into folders to save desktop space, and often users can't find mail because it's hidden in a folder called Tools or Systems, which usually has a gray or white background and contains a calculator, voice recorder, scanner and email client.

Inside this folder, the app can simply be called Mail. If the Tools folder was removed by the user, the apps didn't go anywhere -- they just stayed in the general menu. To get back the folder, you can click on the empty screen space for a long time, select widgets or folders, and the system will suggest that you restore the standard grouping.

Sometimes, manufacturers put a label in the same folder called "Mi Account" or "Services and Feedback," which can visually remind email programs to beginners. It's important not to confuse them: Mi Account is for cloud storage and device search, not for regular correspondence.

If you can't find the Tools folder, try a global search. Swipe down the center of the home screen (or click on the magnifying glass in the search widget), and type in the name of the app. The system will show the exact location of the icon on the desktop.

Third-party clients: Yandex, Mail.ru and others

Xiaomi smartphones, especially firmware versions for the Russian market (RU), often pre-installed apps from local Internet giants. If you use mail from Yandex or Mail.ru, you need to search for them in the appropriate thematic folders.

Applications can be called Yandex, Mail.ru, or have logos of their respective brands, and unlike system mail, these applications are tailored to a specific service and offer advanced functionality such as disk, translator, or calendar integration.

If there is no standard app for your domain, you can always install it from the GetApps store (Xiaomi’s own store) or Google Play. When searching for a store, type in the name of your email service and you will find the official app.

To install a third-party client, go to the app store, search for a name (such as “Yandex Mail”) and click “Install.” Once downloaded, the shortcut will appear on the desktop or in the app menu.

Set up a Mi Account and its connection to mail

The question of where the email is in the context of a Xiaomi account deserves special attention. When registering for a Mi Account, you could use the email address as a login. However, this does not mean that there is a folder inside the phone called “Inbox Xiaomi”.

Mi accounts sync contacts, notes, photos and search for lost devices through Find Device, which is managed via phone settings. To check which email is linked, go to Settings → Mi Account.

Here you'll see the email address that the phone is registered to, and that's where security alerts or confirmation codes might come in, but you should read regular correspondence on the apps described above (Gmail, Mail, etc.).

⚠️ Warning: Never give your Mi Account password to anyone else. Knowing this password, an attacker can lock your phone remotely and unlock it only through a linked email.

Problems with displaying and synchronizing emails

Another reason for missing emails could be a crowded Google storage or the end of a place in the Mi Cloud. Check the storage status in your account settings. If the place is over, new emails may not arrive until the space is freed.

Search through settings and global search

If visual icon search didn't work, the most reliable way to find where your email is is is to use system search. On any MIUI screen, a swipe down the center opens the search bar.

Type in the keywords: "Gmail", "Email", "Mail", "Yandex" and the system will find the application, even if it is hidden in deep folders, and the search bar will often display the latest emails if content is allowed to be indexed.

You can also search the Settings itself, and type the word "Accounts" or "Sync" into your settings, which will take you to a menu that lists all the connected mailboxes and services.
