Why Call Records Can 'Disappear' and Where to Look for Them First
You had an important conversation on the phone, you're sure you've turned on the record, but you can't find the file now? With the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 (and other MIUI smartphones), this is a familiar situation, because the system doesn't store audio files where users expect them to be — not in the Gallery or in the standard Downloads folder. Moreover, the path to recording depends on whether the conversation was recorded through embedded software, a third-party app or a cloud service.
Another common problem is that MIUI hides the system folders with records from the user by default through a standard file manager. This is done to "protect data," but in practice only complicates the search. Fortunately, you can get around the restriction in 2 minutes, read about this in the next section.
Before you rush to search for files manually, check:
- 📱 Whether call recording is enabled in the settings (you may not have activated the function).
- 🔍 Are records automatically deleted — MIUI Can clean old files when memory is scarce.
- ☁️ Is the data synchronized with Mi Cloud (if backup is enabled).
Method 1: Standard folder with MIUI records
If you recorded a conversation through the built-in Phone app, the files are stored in a hidden system folder to open it:
- Open any file manager (e.g., “Conductor” from Xiaomi or Solid Explorer).
- Cross the path: /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/
- If you don’t have a folder, check the alternative path: /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/

Method 2: Search through the Dictator app
Many people don't know, but Redmi Note 10's call records are duplicated in the Dictator app (com.miui.soundrecorder) to find them:
- Open the Dictophone app (the microphone icon on your desktop or menu).
- Go to the Call Records tab (if not, update the app via Google Play).
- Files are sorted by date – find the right conversation and play it back.

Method 3: Using third-party applications to record
If standard methods didn’t work, you may have used third-party recording software (such as Cube Call Recorder, ACR, or Boldbeast).

- 🔄 The app itself usually has a tab called “History” or “Records” – open it.

Method 4: Recovering Deleted Records
If you accidentally delete a record, don't despair, you can restore it with specialized utilities. The rule is, the faster you start to act, the better the chances of success. When you delete a file, the system does not erase it immediately, but only marks the disk space as "free." Until that space is overwritten with new data, the record can be returned.

Method 5: Set up automatic call recording
To avoid losing important conversations, set up automatic recording on Redmi Note 10.
- Open the phone app.
- Press three points (⋮) top-right → «Settings».
- Select “Conversation Recording” → “Automatic Recording”.
- Tell me which calls to record: 📞 All incoming/outgoing; 🔒 Only selected contacts; 🚫 Delete certain numbers.

Even after you set up your recording correctly, Redmi Note 10 users are faced with common errors, and here are the most common ones and how to fix them:
