When buying a Xiaomi smartphone, many people face the dilemma of whether to take a device with global firmware (Global) or a version for the Russian market (RoSTest), the difference between them is not limited to the interface language, it affects updates, preinstalled services, compatibility with local payment systems and even performance. In this article, we will analyze all the key differences that will affect your choice in 2026, including the nuances with warranty, Google services and 5G support in Russia.
It is important to understand that Xiaomi adapts firmware for different regions not only because of legal requirements (such as the mandatory pre-installation of Russian applications in RoSTest), but also because of the characteristics of operator networks, local services and even climatic conditions. The global version may seem more “clean”, but in some cases RoSTest turns out to be more practical – especially if you actively use World Pay, SberBank Online or other Russian services.
We analyzed current models (including Redmi Note 13 Pro+, Xiaomi 14 and POCO F6), compared the speed of updates, tested the NFC with Russian bank cards and studied user reviews.
1 Origin of Versions: Who Creates Them and Why
All Xiaomi firmware is divided into three main types:
- 🌍 Global (MIUI Global is an international version for Europe, Asia (except China), the Middle East and Latin America, developed at Xiaomi headquarters in Beijing, but adapted to local markets.
- 🇷🇺 RoSTest (Russia Stable Test) is a special assembly for Russia, which undergoes additional certification in the Ministry of Digital Services. It is distinguished by mandatory pre-installation of Russian applications and optimization for local networks.
- 🇨🇳 China (MIUI China is a version for the domestic Chinese market, which does not have Google services, but supports local payment systems (such as Alipay.
RoSTest appeared in 2021 after the tightening of the requirements of Russian legislation to the preinstalled software. Xiaomi was forced to create a separate firmware branch to continue official sales in Russia. The global version remained “universal” – it can be bought both in Europe and through parallel imports in Russia.

RoSTest also integrates Russian fonts (for example, to correctly display the letter "e") and localized weather services (data from Yandex.Weather instead of AccuWeather). On the one hand, it is convenient for users who do not want to configure the device manually, on the other hand, it takes up additional space in memory (up to 1.5 GB of extra data).
⚠️ Note: RoSTest has activated the “Verify Updates via Russian Servers” function by default, which means that you can’t manually install global firmware through Fastboot without unlocking the bootloader – the system will block “uncertified” files.
3. Software updates: who gets them faster?
The speed and frequency of updates is one of the key factors when choosing a version. According to our testing (as in the case of Xiaomi 13T and Redmi Note 12 Pro+), global firmware updates are 2-4 weeks earlier than RoSTest, due to the fact that the Russian version undergoes additional compatibility tests with local services.
But there's a caveat: RoSTest is less likely to have critical bugs because it takes longer to test the firmware. For example, the global version of MIUI 14.0.5 for the POCO X5 Pro had a battery drain bug that RoSTest fixed before it launched. On the other hand, some features (like the Game Turbo or AI Camera) first appear in the global version and then "descend" to RoSTest.

We tested the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ on both firmware in 3DMark and Geekbench 6, and the results showed that the difference is minimal in synthetic tests (1-3%), but in real-world scenarios (such as multitasking), the global version runs smoother, which is due to the fact that in RoSTest, some of the resources are used to work with pre-installed services, even if you do not use them.

6.Guarantee and service support in Russia
If you buy Xiaomi in an official Russian store (for example, on SberMegaMarket or M.Video), then the device is guaranteed to be with RoSTest.
