Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners and its Dreame sub-brand have long been hits thanks to a combination of price, functionality and integration into the Mi Home ecosystem. However, popularity breeds a lot of fakes, from rough copies from AliExpress to βgrayβ deliveries with questionable warranty. According to Roskachestvo, up to 30% of Xiaomi vacuum cleaners in the Russian market are counterfeit or unofficial imports. How not to run into fake and buy a truly original device? In this guide, we will analyze all methods of verification β from visual inspection to firmware analysis.
Not only do fake vacuum cleaners get worse and break faster, they can be dangerous to health: cheap batteries explode, poor materials release toxins when heated, and left-wing firmware spy on your home network, so checking for originality is not paranoia, it's a necessity.
We tested all methods on Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Dreame Bot Z10 Pro and Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum E10. The instructions are relevant for all vacuum cleaners of the brand, including budget and flagship series. If you buy a used device, pay twice as much attention to the check!
1. Packaging check: 5 signs of the original
The box is the first to give out a fake. Xiaomi's original packaging has clear standards that copies rarely repeat and poorly.
Material and printing: The original box is made of thick cardboard (~3 mm thick) with matte lamination. The text and logos are offset printing, they are not erased by fingers or have no bumps. Counterfeits often have glossy film, blurred fonts or typos in their names (e.g., "Xioami" instead of "Xiaomi").
Barcodes and stickers. The bottom of the box should have a QR- code with the serial number (check it in Mi Home) and a hologram sticker. When you change the angle of view, the hologram appears the Mi logo or the words "Original." Fake stickers are usually flat and do not change color.
In the original box, each accessory is packaged separately: brushes in plastic bags, a power adapter in a cardboard box with a logo, and counterfeits are often saved on packaging, all parts are piled into one bag or wrapped in cheap film.
- π¦ Box: dense cardboard, matte coating, clear fonts without typos
- π Barcodes: QR with serial number + color-changing hologram
- π Power adapter: original Xiaomi unit labeled MDY-12-EU (for EU- version)
- π Documents: instruction in several languages (including Russian), stamped warranty card
- π‘οΈ Security stickers: on the vacuum cleaner case - stickers with serial number (coincides with QR on the box)
β οΈ Warning: Counterfeiters often copy the design of the box, but use cheap cardboard with a sharp chemical smell, and if the package smells of glue or paint, that's a sure sign of fake.
2. Visual inspection of the body: what should alert
Even if the packaging is perfect, look around the vacuum cleaner itself. The original models have clear body lines, uniform gaps between parts and quality paint. Fakes are often sinned by crooked seams, uneven buttons and cheap plastic.
The logo and the inscriptions. On the original vacuum cleaner, the Mi or Dreame logo is laser-engraved (not a sticker!) and doesn't get erased. The labels on the buttons and the tank lid are clear, without blurring. In fakes, the logo is often glued over the paint and falls off over time.
The build quality. Take the vacuum cleaner in your hands and shake it. The original doesn't creak, all the parts fit tightly. Fakes often have a backlash, the dust collector lid, wheels wobbling or a fan rattling. Notice the rubber seals, the original ones are soft and elastic, the copies are hard and brittle.
Weight and dimensions. Compare the parameters with official data on Xiaomi's website. For example, the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro weighs 3.8 kg and its diameter is 353 mm. Counterfeiting is often lighter (because of cheap materials) or larger (because of an inaccurate copy of the case).
| Sign. | Original | Fake. |
|---|---|---|
| Case material | Matted plastic, odorless | Glossy or chemically odored |
| Logo. | Laser engraving, not erased | Sticker or paint, erased |
| Wheels. | Soft rubber, silent. | Hard plastic, creaking. |
| Buttons | Clear move, no backlash. | Spawning, tight or failing |
| Weight. | Corresponds to official data (Β±50 g) | Much lighter or heavier |
π‘
Try scratching the logo on the case with your nail, and there's no trace left on the original, and on the fake, the paint will move or break off.
3. Checking the serial number and firmware
The most reliable way to confirm originality is to check the serial number (S/N) through official Xiaomi services, which is indicated on the sticker under the dust collector lid and on the box (in QR- code).
Method 1: Using the Mi Home app
- Install the Mi Home app (only from the App Store or Google Play!).
- Add the vacuum cleaner to the application via Add the device β Vacuum cleaner.
- After connecting, go to Device Settings β About the device.
- Compare the serial number in the app with the number on the case and box - they should match.
Method 2: On the Xiaomi website
Go to the originality check page: mi.com/global/verify. Type in the serial number and the captcha. If the vacuum cleaner is original, the system will show the model and the date of production. If the site produces an error "Invalid SN" or the model does not match yours, you are 100% fake.
Method 3: firmware analysis
The original Xiaomi vacuum cleaners have branded firmware with regular updates. Go to Settings β About the device β Firmware update.
- π No updates or the latest version is dated 2020 or earlier β it's a fake.
- π± The app doesn't find the device over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi - most likely left-handed firmware.
- π§ There is no βDeveloper Modeβ option in the settings (Settings β About Device β Click 5 times on the firmware version) β this is a copy.
Enter S/N at mi.com/global/verify|
Compare the number on the case, box and in Mi Home|
Check the date of the last firmware update |
Make sure the model in Mi Home matches the purchase-->
4. Test of work: how the original vacuum cleaner behaves
Counterfeiting often gives off not only the appearance but also the behavior during cleaning. Xiaomi's original vacuum cleaners have smooth handling, precise navigation and quiet running.
Noise and vibration. Turn on the vacuum cleaner at maximum power. The original makes a uniform hum (not louder than 65 dB), without rattling or creaking. Counterfeiting often howls at high speeds, and the body vibrates so that you hear the thud of parts.
Navigation and mapping. Start cleaning the big room.
- πΊοΈ Builds a map beyond 1-2 passage, without chaotic movements.
- π Reverts to base accurately (deviation no more than 10 cm).
- π« Doesn't get stuck on carpets or sink in the pile.
Fakes zigzag, lose base or get stuck in the first meters.
Mobile app. The original Mi Home displays:
- π Detailed statistics of cleaning (area, time, water consumption).
- π Exact battery level (with percentages).
- π The ability to update maps and cleaning areas.
Fakes often lack graphs, and the charge is shown by βsticksβ without exact values.
β οΈ Warning: If the vacuum cleaner does not connect to the Mi Home or requires third-party applications (such as "Tuya Smart"), this is a guaranteed fake.
5.Where to buy: official and verified sellers
Even a perfect check doesnβt give 100% guarantee if you buy a vacuum cleaner in a questionable place. Here is a list of reliable sources (current for Russia and the CIS in 2026):
- π¬ Official Xiaomi store: mi.com/ru or branded stores in the shopping center. Here the original with a Russian warranty is guaranteed.
- π Authorized resellers: "Svyaznoy", "M. Video", "Eldorado" (check the availability of the certificate on the showcase).
- π Buyer-protected marketplaces: Wildberries, Ozon (only for sellers rated β₯4.9 and marked "Official Partner").
- π B/w with warranty: Avito or Yula, but only if the seller provides a check and a warranty card with the stamp of the store.
Red flags when buying:
- π© Price below 70% of the market average (e.g. Dreame Bot Z10 Pro for 15,000 β½ instead of 35,000 β½).
- π© The seller refuses to show the serial number before payment.
- π© The description indicates "European version" or "without Russian" (this is a "gray" import).
- π© There is no check or warranty card (even on used devices).
What is the danger of "gray" imports?
6 What to do if you have already bought a fake
If the test showed that your vacuum cleaner is fake, act according to the algorithm:
Step 1: Gather evidence
Take a picture:
- πΈ Serial number on the case and box.
- πΈ Error on the site mi.com/global/verify.
- πΈ Check (if any) and correspondence with the seller.
Step 2: Contact the seller
If you bought from a marketplace (Wildberries, Ozon), fill out a return form with the reason βnon-description.β When buying from hand (Avito), demand a return via the chat platform β it often takes the buyerβs side.
Step 3: Check the warranty
Even if the vacuum cleaner is grey, some informal service centers are being repaired.
- π§ Official list of Xiaomi SC (original only).
- π§ Groups in VK or Telegram (e.g., Repair Xiaomi Moscow).
Step 4: Warn Others
Leave a review of the vendor at the site where the vacuum cleaner was purchased.
- π Serial number forgery.
- π¦ Photo of the package and the device.
- π° Price and terms of purchase.
β οΈ Warning: Don't try to reflash a fake vacuum cleaner with "original" firmware! this can completely disable it. Fake devices often have other "hardware" that is not compatible with official software.

If the seller refuses to accept the counterfeit back, threaten to complain to Rospotrebnadzor. According to the law "On Protection of Consumer Rights", you have the right to return the goods of inadequate quality within 14 days even without a check.
