Have you bought a Xiaomi device but arenβt sure about its exact model? Or want to check if you have an original smartphone, smartwatch or router? Determining a model is the first step before buying accessories, firmware or repairing. In this article, weβve compiled all the possible ways, including those that arenβt even written about in the official instructions.
The problem is that Xiaomi often releases devices with similar names (such as the Redmi Note 11 and Redmi Note 11 Pro), and some models for different regions may have different indexes (such as the Mi 11 Lite 5G vs Mi 11 Lite 4G). A mistake in determining the model can lead to the purchase of an incompatible case, incorrect firmware or even loss of warranty.
1. The easiest way: look at the box
If you still have the original packaging, the exact model is on the sticker on the back or on the side of the box.
- π± Model: M2101K9G (smartphone)
- β Model: M2129B1 (for the Mi Band smartwatch)
- π‘ Model: R3G (router)
Note that boxes sometimes have a commercial name (e.g. Redmi Note 10 Pro) and a model code (e.g. M2101K6G) on them, both of which are useful, but the code is more important for finding firmware or parts (it starts with the letter M, K or T).
β οΈ Warning: If the box looks suspicious (no hologram, font blurred, sticker unstick), there is a high risk that you have been sold a fake.
2. Checking the model in the device settings
For smartphones, tablets and most gadgets Xiaomi model can be found through the settings menu. Instructions are universal for MIUI 12/13/14 and older versions:
- Open the settings (cog icon).
- Go to About the Phone (or About the Tablet).
- Find the model or model number.
You'll see either a commercial name (POCO X3 Pro) or a code (M2102J20SG). If you want a full name with a region, tap the Model Number several times, and a hidden menu with detailed information will open.
For smart watches Mi Band or Xiaomi Watch:
- Open the Mi Fitness or Zepp app.
- Go to the profile of the device.
- Find the Device Information section.
3.Use service codes (for smartphones)
If the settings menu is not available (for example, the device is not turned on), you can use the service menu. USSD-They work even on locked phones:
- π Enter the dialer: ##4636## β Select Device Information.
- π’ Enter ##225## - will show the model, firmware version and IMEI.
- π Enter: ##6484## - hardware test (the top will be a model).
β οΈ Note: On some models (e.g, POCO F3) codes may not work due to manufacturer restrictions, in which case use adb commands (see next section).
What if the code doesn't work?
4. Check through ADB (for advanced users)
If the phone doesn't turn on or the codes don't work, you can connect the device to your PC and use the Android Debug Bridge (ADB), a method that requires Google's Platform Tools to be installed.
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your PC in Fastboot mode (clip Volume Down + Power when the device is off).
- Open the command line in the adb folder.
- Enter the command: fastboot getvar product or for the phone turned on: adb shell getprop ro.product.model
You'll get a model code like M2007J3SC (this is Redmi Note 9 Pro for India) to decrypt the code, use the table below or services like IMEI.info.
| Model code | Commercial name | Region |
|---|---|---|
| M2101K9G | Redmi Note 10 Pro | Global version |
| K30Pro | POCO F2 Pro | India/Europe |
| T20 | Xiaomi Pad 5 | China |
| R3G | Mi Router 3G | International |
5. IMEI model definition
Each Xiaomi device has a unique IMEI, a 15-digit code that you can use to identify the model.
- π On the box (near the barcode).
- π± In settings: About the phone β General information β IMEI.
- π’ Through code: *#06#.
Check the IMEI on one of the services:
- π IMEI.info (shows model and specifications).
- π IMEI24 (region-specific).
IMEI is not always accurate for Chinese versions of devices (for example, for Mi 11 Ultra code M2102K1AC services may show a flawed model).
6. Where else can I find a model?
If none of the above has worked, try these methods:
- π Under the battery: On some models (e.g. Redmi) 9A) The code is on a sticker underneath the battery, and careful that you open the body yourself, it can break the leakage!
- π Documents: The warranty card or check must contain a model.
- π οΈ If the device does not turn on, contact the authorized Xiaomi service - they will determine the model by serial number.
π‘
If you buy a device with your hands, be sure to check the model through IMEI and compare it to the data on the box. Disparities are a sign of counterfeit or "gray" imports.
7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
Many users confuse:
- π± Commercial name (Redmi Note 11) and model code (M2101K9AG). I need a code for firmware!
- π Global and Chinese versions, for example, Mi. 10T (apollo code and Mi 10T Pro (apollopro code) looks similar, but have different firmware.
- β‘ Models with the same design, but different "iron" (for example, the "iron, POCO X3 NFC and POCO X3 Pro).
β οΈ Note: If you download firmware not for your model, the device may stop turning on (brick). MIUI Downloads.
