What is EAC on Xiaomi Packaging and Why is it Important?
Have you ever noticed a small EAC logo on a box of Xiaomi smartphones, headphones or other equipment? This label is not just a decoration, but an official confirmation that the product has passed all the necessary checks for legal sale in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, without which the products are considered counterfeit, and its sale is a violation of the law.
But why does Xiaomi, a Chinese brand, put this label? The fact is that since 2015, the EAEU has had strict rules for certifying electronics: Any gadget, from the Redmi Note 12 to the Mi Band 8, must comply with technical regulations on safety, electromagnetic compatibility and environmental friendliness. EAC marking (abbreviated as Eurasian Conformity) is your guarantee that the device will not harm health and will not fail in a week.
But here's the catch: Unscrupulous sellers often forge this label or sell products without it, passing them off as "gray" deliveries. How do you distinguish the original? More on that.
EAC Transcription: What's Behind These Letters?
The abbreviation EAC stands for Eurasian Conformity, a sign confirming that the product has passed mandatory certification or declaration in one of the accredited laboratories of the EAEU. Without this mark, Xiaomi products cannot be legally sold in Russia and other countries of the Union.
It is important to understand the difference between the two types of confirmation:
- π EAEU Certificate of Conformity β issued for high-risk goods (smartphones, routers, electric vehicles) confirms safety at the level of construction and materials.
- π Declaration of Conformity is a simplified procedure for less dangerous products (such as covers or cables) and the manufacturer declares safety, but is responsible for reliability.
For Xiaomi, certification is not only a formality, but also a way to protect users, for example, the Poco X5 Pro smartphone is tested for:
- β‘ The level of electromagnetic radiation (not higher than the norms of SanPiN).
- π₯ Battery fire safety (risk of bloating or fire).
- πΆ Compatibility with Russian communication networks (frequency support) LTE Band 7/20/38).
Interesting fact: until 2021, Xiaomi often supplied goods with the ST-RU marking (certificate of the Russian Federation), but after the tightening of the rules of the EAEU switched to EAC. Now even the budget Redmi A2 or Mi Smart Band must have this sign.
What Xiaomi products should be labeled EAC?
Not all Xiaomi products require certification, such as covers or styluses that can be EAC-free, but electronics cannot. Here is a full list of categories for which labeling is mandatory:
| Category of goods | Examples (Xiaomi models) | Type of confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Smartphones and tablets | Redmi Note 13 Pro+, POCO F5, Pad 6 | Certificate of the EAEU |
| Laptops and monoblocks | Mi Notebook Pro, RedmiBook 15 | Certificate of the EAEU |
| Smart watches and fitness bracelets | Mi Watch 2 Pro, Mi Band 8 | EAEU Declaration |
| Wireless headphones | Redmi Buds 5, Xiaomi Earbuds 3 Pro | EAEU Declaration |
| Routers and Mesh systems | Mi Router AX3000, Redmi Router AX6 | Certificate of the EAEU |
Special attention should be paid to electric vehicles, such as Mi Electric Scooter electric scooters or gyroscooters, which require not only EAC, but also additional vehicle type approval (OTTS), without which the sale of such devices in Russia is prohibited.
But accessories like Mi Power Bank or Mi LED Desk Lamp often fall into the grey area, with some models being certified and others (such as unofficial versions for the Asian market) not.

If you buy Xiaomi abroad (for example, on AliExpress), check with the seller whether the model has an EAC certificate for Russia.
How to verify the authenticity of EAC on Xiaomi products?
Fake EAC labeling is one of the most common tricks of fraudsters. To avoid getting caught in a counterfeit, follow this instruction:
- Check the appearance of the sign: β Original. EAC β These are three letters in a circle with uniform serifs, the color is black or contrasting background. β A fake often has uneven lines, blurred edges, or the wrong typeface (e.g., the letters "A" and "C" merge).
- Find the certificate number: Next to the EAC should be the code type TC TR CU 004/2011 or EAC RU C-RU.AB12.B.00001. If the number is not - it is 100% fake.
Check in the EAEU Register
- Go to the official website of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
- Enter the certificate number in the search box, if you don't have the data, the product is not certified.
Examine the logo in the light - whether there is blurry or irregularities
Contrast the certificate number with the EAEU database
Check if the model on the box matches the certificate
Pay attention to the packaging β the original has holograms and a factory seal-->
Example: on the Xiaomi 13T Pro box, the original EAC looks like this:
If you buy from Xiaomiβs official store (e.g., mi.com or authorized retailers like Messenger or M.Video), the risk of a fake is minimal, but on marketplaces like Wildberries or Ozon, itβs better to double-check the certificate β they often sell βgrayβ devices without EAC.
What happens if you buy Xiaomi without EAC?
EAC vs. CE: Whatβs the difference and why is it important to Xiaomi?
Many people confuse EAC with another popular sign, CE (ConformitΓ© EuropΓ©enne), both of which indicate compliance with standards, but operate in different regions:
- π CE β European Union markings guarantee compliance with EU directives, but not in Russia and the EAEU countries.
- π·πΊ EAC β a sign for the Eurasian Economic Union, mandatory for legal sale in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, etc.
Why is this critical for Xiaomi? The company supplies the same models (like the Redmi Note 12) to different markets but with different certificates.A smartphone with the CE marking bought in Europe can:
- β Do not support Russian frequencies LTE Band 20 (800 MHz).
- β Have another charger (220V in the EU vs. 230V in the Russian Federation).
- β Do not pass customs when importing into Russia.
In 2022, users complained that the CE-branded Xiaomi 12 Pro, brought from Germany, did not catch the Tele2 network due to the lack of support for the Band 38, while the official version for Russia (EAC) worked without problems.

If you see only the CE mark on the Xiaomi box and the EAC is missing, thatβs a sure sign of grey imports.
What if Xiaomi doesnβt have EAC labels?
If youβve already bought a Xiaomi device without an EAC, you have a few options:
- Return the goods to the seller: According to the law "On protection of consumer rights" (Article 18), you can return uncertified goods within 14 days. If the seller refuses, write a complaint to Roskomnadzor or Rosaccreditation.
- Self-certify: This is only possible for legal entities. Individuals will not be able to issue EAC. The cost of certification is from 30 to 100 thousand rubles (depending on the category of goods).
Use it at your own risk and risk
- β οΈ Note: If you are talking about a router or other network equipment, use it without EAC It may lead to a fine from Roskomnadzor.
If you still decide to leave the device, consider:
- π« The warranty from Xiaomi Russia does not apply to it.
- π§ Service centers will refuse repairs under warranty.
- π΅ Possible network compatibility issues (e.g. Redmi) 10C Asia does not support VoLTE in Russian networks).
π‘
Before buying, check the IMEI of your smartphone on imei.info. If the βRegionβ column indicates China or Global, and the EAC is absent, this is a βgrayβ model.
