Have you recorded an important conversation or lecture on a Xiaomi voice recorder but can't find the file? Or accidentally deleted the recording and want to restore it? In this article, we will analyze which folder the audio recorder on Redmi, POCO and Mi smartphones is stored in, how to get there through standard conductor and third-party applications, and what to do if the records are lost.
The manufacturer doesn't always obviously place the recorder files, it depends on the MIUI version, the phone model, and even regional settings. For example, on the Redmi Note 12 with MIUI 14, the folder can be in one place, and on the POCO X5 with MIUI 13, it can be in another place. We collected current data for all modern devices and explained how to avoid loss of records in the future.
Standard location of recordings of the recorder on Xiaomi
By default, the Dictaphone app (or Recorder in global firmware) saves files to the system folder.
- 📁 Internal memory: /storage/emulated/0/Recorder/ or /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/
- 🔄 Nana SD-map (if you choose to save there): /storage/XXXX-XXXX/Recorder/ (where XXXX-XXXX — card)
- ☁️ Mi Cloud: If sync is enabled, records are duplicated in Mi Cloud → Dictaphone
New models (e.g. Xiaomi) 14 or Redmi Note 13 Pro+) The path may look like /storage/emulated/0/Android/media/com.miui.soundrecorder/. This is due to changes in the data storage policy of Android 11+.
Important: If you connect your phone to your PC via USB, the Recorder folder may not appear immediately. Enable the display of hidden files in Windows Explorer settings or use Total Commander.
How to find records through MIUI conductor
The easiest way is to use the built-in file explorer from Xiaomi.
- Open the Files app (the folder icon on the desktop).
- Go to the Category tab → Audio.
- In the list, find the Recorder folder or Recorder.
- All records are sorted by date - the last ones will be at the top.
If the folder is not in the Audio category, try:
- 🔍 Enter a request in the search for a conductor call_rec or.mp3 (The recorder saves files in this format).
- 📂 Going to the Inner Memory → Find the folder manually on the way from the previous section.

Note: on some firmware (e.g. MIUI for Europe), the folder may be called VoiceRecorder.
Why recordings of the recorder can disappear
Users often experience audio files disappearing suddenly, the main reasons being:

Critical information: If you delete the records and do not back up, they can be restored within 30 days through the MIUI Recycle Bin (.Trash folder in internal memory).

How to Change the Place of Records Saving
By default, the Xiaomi voice recorder saves files to internal memory, but this can be changed.
- Open the Dictaphone app.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner → Settings.
- Select the Storage Location or the Save Folder.
- Indicate. SD-map or internal memory.
On some models (e.g. POCO F5), this item may be called Save to. If you don’t have an option, your version of MIUI does not support changing the save location.

To avoid losing important records, set up automatic upload to the cloud. To do this, in the voice recorder settings, enable Autosynchronization with Mi Cloud. Files will be duplicated on Xiaomi servers and are available even after the phone is reset.
Limitation: while retaining the SD-The record card may not be displayed in some players due to the peculiarities of Android working with external drives.
Recovery of deleted recordings of the recorder
If you delete a record and want to return it, follow the algorithm:
- Check out the MIUI cart (as described above).

Check backups:

- 🖥️ Local backups through Settings → System system → Backup
⚠️ Warning: Do not write new files to your phone after deleting them, which reduces the chances of recovery. The more data is rewritten over deleted files, the less likely it is to be returned.
If you can't recover records, check if Autoclean Old Records is enabled in the recorder settings, which deletes files older than 30 days.
Alternative methods of recording and storing sound
If the standard Xiaomi voice recorder does not suit you, consider alternatives:

When using third-party apps, check where they save files. For example, Easy Voice Recorder creates the /EasyVoiceRecorder/ folder in internal memory by default.

The standard Xiaomi voice recorder does not support recording telephone conversations – it requires specialized applications (for example, Cube Call Recorder).
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Users often make mistakes when working with a voice recorder.
⚠️ WARNING: If you are recording long lectures or interviews, do not use energy saving mode. MIUI You can stop the voice recorder in the background, and the recording will stop. → Battery → Optimizing the battery.
Error 1: Records are terminated in 5-10 minutes. Solution: Check if Saving Charge or Sleep is enabled when locked in the battery settings.
Error 2: Files are saved without sound. Solution: Make sure the microphone is not silenced (check the 3.5mm or USB-C connector if you use an external microphone). Also clear the app cache in Settings → Apps → Recorder → Storage.
Error 3: You can't edit records. Solution: The standard MIUI recorder doesn't support editing. Use Lexis Audio Editor or Audacity (on PC).
