Why don’t you see a private album in the Xiaomi Gallery?

Important: Since MIUI 14, the hiding algorithm has changed, so that files are encrypted by the system and not visible even through a file manager without special permissions. Official way: private album in the gallery MIUI
The easiest method is to use the built-in Private Album feature in the standard Xiaomi gallery, which is available on all models starting with the Redmi Note 5 and later.
- Open the Gallery app (flower icon).
- Slip on three dots in the upper right corner (⋮) → Choose a Private Album.
- Enter your password or fingerprint (if configured).
If the item Private album is not on the menu, it means:

- 🔄 You have an outdated version. MIUI (firmware update)

1. Through the file manager
Hidden photos are stored along the way:
/storage/emulated/0/MIUI/Gallery/cloud/private/To see the folder:
- Open Files (Standard Xiaomi Manager)
- Enable the display of hidden files: click ⋮ → Settings → Show hidden files.
- If you don't have a folder, check the alternative path: /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/.thumbnails/private/
2. Through gallery settings
Sometimes a private album is hidden due to privacy settings:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Gallery → Permissions.
- Make sure that the Warehouse and Camera rights are included.
- Return to the gallery and update the page (pull down).

What if a private album disappeared after the update?

Error 1: "A private album requires a password, but I didn't set it." Solution: The default password may match the password from Mi Account. Try entering it. If it doesn't, reset the gallery settings (see section above).
Error 2: "Files are visible in the file manager but not opened." Solution: This means that the files are encrypted. Try opening them through the gallery or restore access through Mi Cloud.
