You opened a phone book on Xiaomi to call a friend — and instead of a regular contact list, you see a void or half of the records? The situation is familiar to many owners of Redmi, POCO or Mi smartphones. The problem of contact disappearance is not always associated with a device breakdown: in 80% of cases, synchronization settings, MIUI update errors or application conflicts are to blame. In this article, we will analyze all possible causes, from banal to hidden, and also give step-by-step instructions for restoring the phone book without losing data.
Xiaomi smartphones use their own MIUI shell, which interacts with Google and Mi Account services. This creates additional points of failure: contacts can be lost when synchronization with any of these services fails. For example, after the MIUI 14 → MIUI 15 update, many Redmi Note 12 users complained about an empty phone book — the problem was solved by simply reconnecting an account. But there are more serious cases when contacts are lost due to a database corruption. Next, a detailed analysis of each scenario.
1. Google or Mi Account syncs are disabled (or not working correctly)
The most common reason is that contacts simply don’t sync with the cloud. By default, Xiaomi offers to save entries to Mi Account (if you are registered) or Google Contacts (if you use Google services). If sync is disabled, contacts are stored only in the phone’s memory and can disappear after a reset, update or even reboot.
How to check:
