You have enabled a call recording on Xiaomi Redmi 9 but canβt find the saved file? This problem is familiar to many Xiaomi smartphone users β standard call recording apps often hide files in non-obvious folders, and sometimes donβt save them at all without additional settings. In this article, weβll take a look at all possible places where records from your Redmi 9 can be stored, including hidden system directories, cloud services and third-party applications.
The Redmi 9 (M2003J15SC, M2003J15SS and other modifications) is not all firmware equally featured in Xiaomiβs proprietary Call Recording app, for example, on the global version of MIUI, files can be stored in one place and in Chinese one in another. In addition, storage paths sometimes change after system updates without notifying the user.
Important: If you used a third-party recording app (like Cube Call Recorder or ACR), the search algorithm will be different, as weβll explain below, and if the records suddenly disappear after resetting or updating MIUI, at the end of the article youβll find ways to restore them.
1. Standard place of storage of records in MIUI
By default, the Call Recording app (built into MIUI) folder /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/. This is the way to go for most of the Redmi firmware versions. 9, but there are nuances:
- π folder call_rec β The files here are.amr or.mp3 and are named by pattern: Record_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.amr.
- π How to find: Open any file manager (e.g., Xiaomiβs Explorer), go to Internal Memory β MIUI β sound_recorder β call_rec.
- β οΈ Exception: on some versions MIUI 12.5+ file miui_sound_recorder instead sound_recorder.
If the folders call_rec No, check the settings of the application "Recording callsΒ»:

If the settings indicate the path to SD-The map, but there's no files, so try to pull the map out and put it back in. MIUI Does not update the list of files without reconnecting the drive.
2. Alternative system folders for records
If there are no records in the standard folder, check these directories β they are used in different versions of MIUI or when crashes occur:
| folder | Description | When used |
|---|---|---|
| /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/ | Universal folder for all records (calls, voice notes). | MIUI 11 and below, or if the Record app is reset. |
| /storage/emulated/0/Download/CallRecordings/ | Backup folder for records downloaded from the cloud. | After recovery from backup. |
| /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.soundrecorder/ | Hidden folder of the system recorder. | If the recording was conducted through the standard application "Dictophone". |
Critical detail: on MIUI 13+ firmware for Redmi 9, records can be automatically archived into /storage/emulated/0/Android/media/com.miui.voicerecord/ - not visible without displaying hidden files.
- Open the βConductorβ from Xiaomi.
- Slip on three lines in the upper left corner β Settings.
- Activate the option to show hidden files.
3. Cloud Storage: Mi Cloud and Google Drive
Xiaomi can automatically sync call records to the cloud β especially if you have Backup enabled in your Mi Account settings.
- βοΈ Mi Cloud: Go to Settings β Mi Account β Mi Cloud. Select backup copies β Find the Call Records section. If you have a copy, click Restore, the files will appear in the folder. /MIUI/sound_recorder/.

If you installed alternative programs to record calls (e.g. Cube Call Recorder, ACR, Boldbeast), the files will be stored in other folders.
- π€ Cube Call Recorder: /storage/emulated/0/CubeBackup/ or /storage/emulated/0/CallRecorder/.
- π ACR (Another Call Recorder): /storage/emulated/0/ACR/ (file-format.3gp).

5.Why Records May Disappear and How to Recover Them
Call records on Redmi 9 are often missing for the following reasons:
- ποΈ Autocleaning: MIUI Can delete old files when memory is scarce (less than 10% free space threshold).
