Where to save the recording of the conversation on Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S: all possible storage locations

Or do you want to know where to look for audio recordings so you don’t lose them when you reset? In this article, we’ll look at all the possible storage locations for call records on this model, from standard folders to hidden directories, and explain why files sometimes “disappear” and how to restore them.

Xiaomi smartphones use different approaches to record retention depending on the MIUI version, regional firmware and even installed applications. On the Redmi Note 10S (with MIUI 12.5+), the storage algorithm may differ from older models, so universal instructions from the Internet often don't work. Standard place for storing calls in MIUI

By default, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S saves the conversation records to the system folder, accessible through the standard File Manager.The path depends on the firmware version, but most often it is:

• 📁 /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ — main folder for records made through the built-in function MIUI.
• 📁 /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/ — alternative path in some regional firmware (e.g. India or global version).
• 🔍 /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.providers.media/ — Metadata of records (not the files themselves) can be stored here!).

To find the folder:

1. Open the Files app (the folder icon on the home screen).
2. Go to the Device section → Internal memory.
3. Turn on the display of hidden folders (click on three dots in the upper right corner → Show hidden files).
4. Look for MIUI or Recordings folders.

Record files are usually.amr or.mp3 and are named by pattern: Call_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.amr, where YYYYMMDD — date, HHMMSS — If the folder is empty, check the recording settings (more on this below).

Why can't the records be saved to a standard folder?

There are several reasons why files don’t appear in the expected location:

1. The recording feature is disabled in phone settings, and in some regions (e.g. the EU), call recording is blocked by default due to privacy laws.
2. Access rights failure: If you manually restricted access to the microphone for the Phone app, no recordings will be created.
3. Using Dual Apps. If you make a call through a cloned app (like a second WhatsApp), the records can be saved to a different folder.
4. Update MIUI: After major updates (e.g. from MIUI 12.5 to MIUI 13), the path to the folder may change.

To check if the recording is included:

1. Open the Phone app.
2. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner → Settings.
3. Select the Conversation Record.
4. Make sure the Auto Record switch is active and the contacts (or All calls) are selected.

If the recording settings do not include Auto Record, your firmware does not support this feature. Try installing Cube Call Recorder from Google Play or updating MIUI to the latest version.

Alternative storage locations: cloud, cache, third-party applications

If the records are not in the standard folders, check these locations:

Pay special attention to Mi Cloud: if you have automatic backup enabled, records can be deleted from the device after syncing.

1. Open your Settings → Mi Account → Mi Cloud
2. Check if backup of application data is enabled.
3. If so, go to the web version of Mi Cloud and look for archive records.

How to change the location of the records?

By default, Redmi Note 10S does not allow you to select a folder for recordings through standard settings.

• 🔧 For built-in function: Use a root-access file manager (like Root Explorer) and manually move the folder call_rec to a memory card, and then create a symbolic link.
• 📱 For third-party applications: in Cube Call Recorder or ACR You can choose the way to save in the settings (Store section).
• ☁️ Cloud Saving: Set up automatic download to Google Drive or Dropbox via record apps.

Instructions for Cube Call Recorder:

1. Open the app and go to Settings (cog at the top).
2. Select the Record File.
3. Show a new path, for example, /storage/XXXX-XXXX/CallRecords/ (where XXXX-XXXX — ID yours SD-map).
4. Save the changes and restart the application.

Critical feature of the Redmi Note 10S: When using a memory card in the format of internal memory (not portable) records can only be stored in the internal drive due to the limitations of Android. SD-map, format it as a portable storage in your phone settings.

What do I do if the records are missing?

If the files suddenly disappear, follow this algorithm:

1. Check the Recycle Bin: Open Files → Recycle Bin. Look for files with the.amr or.mp3 extension and the date of creation corresponding to the time of the call. Restore them by holding your finger on the file → Restore.

Use Recovery Programs

• Install DiskDigger or Recuva (for PC).
• Scan internal memory for deleted audio files.
• Filter the results in.amr/.mp3 format.
• Check the logs of system applications: adb shell ls /data/data/com.android.dialer/cache/ (ADB and debugging mode on the phone is required).
