The problem with finding voice recorders is typical for Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones because of the features of the MIUI shell. Depending on the firmware version (MIUI 12, 13 or 14) and the device model, the path to records may differ. In addition, some records are saved in secure directories that are not displayed in the standard file manager.
Important: If you use a third-party recorder (like RecForge or Easy Voice Recorder), the ways of saving will be different. This article is exclusively dedicated to the standard Dictophone app preinstalled in MIUI.
Standard place to save records of the Xiaomi voice recorder
In most cases, audio files from Xiaomi's recorder are saved in /storage/emulated/0/Recorder/ (or /sdcard/Recorder/ on older versions of MIUI), which is accessible through any file manager, including the standard MI File Manager.
Default file format —.m4a (AAC-Coding, but on some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T or POCO F5) may be used.mp3. File names usually contain the date and time of the recording, for example: REC_20260515_143022.m4a.
- 📁 Main folder: /storage/emulated/0/Recorder/ — All records are stored here unless the settings have been changed.
- 🔊 Format:.m4a (less.mp3 or.amr on budget models).
- 📅 File Names: Contains date and time in format REC_CCGMDD CCMMSS.

If there is no Recorder folder, check the hidden files (turn on the display in the file manager settings) or use a keyword search. REC_. On some firmware (for example, MIUI Global folder may be called SoundRecorder.

If the Recorder folder is empty, check these directories – they are used in different versions of MIUI or on certain models:

On devices with dual storage (internal memory) + memory card) the default records are stored in internal memory. To change this, you need to manually specify the path to the internal memory. SD-map in the settings of the recorder (about this in the next section).

How to change the place of saving records on a memory card

Why records are not saved or disappear
If the Xiaomi voice recorder does not save the records or they disappear after the reboot, the reasons may be as follows:

- Through USB-cable: Connect your smartphone to your PC. In the notification curtain, select File Transfer (MTP). On PC, open the Internal Memory folder → Recorder and copy files.
- Through the cloud: Open MI File Manager, highlight records → Share → Mi Cloud. Sign in and upload files. Download them to your PC through the web version of Mi Cloud.
- Bluetooth/Wi-Fi: In MI File Manager, select files → Send → Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct. Accept files on another device.

The standard Xiaomi voice recorder has several hidden features that make it easier to work with records:
