Xiaomiβs Mi Cloud cloud storage is not just a backup, but a full-fledged tool for synchronizing data between ecosystem devices, storing photos, contacts, notes, phone history, and even smartphone settings. However, many users face difficulties when they first sign in: the system requires an SMS confirmation, does not accept a password or does not find an account at all. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to log in to Mi Cloud, including bypassing typical errors and restoring access to old accounts.
The Mi Cloud is very closely integrated with MIUI, which means that logging into the cloud automatically unlocks access to features such as Find Device, buffering between devices, and backing up messages, but this same integration sometimes causes problems: for example, once you reset your phone can require data from the Mi Cloud even if you've never used it, and we'll show you how to avoid locking and configure access correctly.
What is Mi Cloud and Why is it Necessary?
Mi Cloud is a cloud service from Xiaomi, similar to Apple's iCloud or Google Drive. It automatically stores:
- π· Photos and videos (with original quality)
- π Contacts, SMS call history
- π Notes and recordings from the Mi Notes app
- π System settings (wallpaper, themes, shortcuts)
- π Location data (for the Find Device function)
The main advantage is seamless synchronization between smartphones, tablets and even Xiaomi smartwatches. For example, if you add a contact on your phone, it will instantly appear on the Mi Band or Redmi Pad. The basic tariff provides 5 GB for free, and advanced options (up to 200 GB) are available by subscription.
It's important to understand that Mi Cloud is not just a storage facility, it's part of the Xiaomi ecosystem, and without it, it won't work.
- π Unlocking the phone through Find Device when lost
- π² Transfer of files between devices over Wi-Fi (Mi Share)
- π΅ Synchronization of music in the Mi Music app
β οΈ Note: If you sell or transfer your Xiaomi smartphone, be sure to log out of the Mi Cloud in the settings. Otherwise, the new owner will not be able to activate the device without your data!
Method 1: Sign in via Xiaomi smartphone (main method)
The easiest way to log in is to use the Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone itself.
- Open Settings (the gear icon on the main screen).
- Scroll up and select the Mi Account section (or Xiaomi Account on newer versions of MIUI).
- Click Login and enter the email or phone number associated with the account.
- Enter your password and confirm the entrance through SMS-code (will come to the tied number).
If you are logging in for the first time, the system will offer to create an account, and note that for the full operation of the Mi Cloud you will need:
- π± Confirm the phone number (required)
- βοΈ Provide backup email (recommended)
- π Create a complex password (minimum 8 characters with numbers)
βοΈ What to check before entering the Mi Cloud
Once you have successfully logged in, you will automatically be taken to the Mi Cloud section, where you can enable synchronization of the data you want. Please note the Backup section, where you can manually create a backup before resetting or updating your firmware.
β οΈ Note: If you log in with an error "This account is linked to another device", someone is already using your Mi Account on another phone!
Method 2: Authorization through the web version of Mi Cloud
If you don't have a Xiaomi smartphone on hand, you can go to the cloud through a browser on your computer or other device.
- Go to the official website: i.mi.com.
- Select the interface language (Russian is available in the drop-down menu).
- Enter the email or phone number associated with the account.
- Confirm your login via SMS or email (depending on your security settings).
The web version of Mi Cloud has limited functionality compared to the mobile application, but allows:
- π View and download backup copies
- π· Manage photos and videos
- π Export contacts in.vcf format
- π Use the Find Device feature to find a lost phone
For ease of use, we recommend using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers β they are best compatible with the Xiaomi web interface. If the site does not open, check if your antivirus or VPN is blocking it.
What to do if you do not receive an SMS with a confirmation code
Method 3: Sign in via Mi Cloud on Android
For users who do not have a Xiaomi smartphone but have an Android device, there is an official Mi Cloud app.
- Install the Mi Cloud app.
- Open it and press Enter.
- Enter the data from the Mi Account (email/phone + password).
- Confirm authorization via SMS or email.
The annex allows:
- π Synchronize contacts and notes with other devices
- π View backups (but not create them)
- π Use Find Device to Find Lost Xiaomi Phone
Note that on non-Xiaomi devices, some features may be limited, such as you may not be able to create a full system backup, but you may be able to download previously stored data.
Solving problems when logging into Mi Cloud
Even with the right data entry, authorization can end in errors, and let's look at the most common problems and their solutions.
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| "Incorrect password" | Misprint or loss of password | Restore your password through the Recovery Form |
| "Account doesn't exist." | Error when entering email/phone | Check the letter register in email or number format (+7 for Russia) |
| "Device locked" | Previous owner did not leave the account | Contact the seller or contact Xiaomi for support. |
| "Too many attempts." | Blocking after 5 unsuccessful attempts | Wait 30 minutes or restore access via email |
If you buy a used Xiaomi smartphone and are faced with a requirement to enter the data of the previous Mi Account, this means that the seller did not log out.
- Ask the seller to remotely remove the device from your account via i.mi.com.
- If you cannot contact us, contact Xiaomiβs customer service with a check to purchase.
- In extreme cases, unlock through the Mi Unlock Tool (requires a wait of 7-30 days).

If you have forgotten which email is linked to Mi Account, try entering all possible addresses you have used before, and the system will tell you if there is an account with such an email, even if the password is entered incorrectly.
How to Restore Access to Mi Cloud if You Forgot Your Password
If you canβt remember the password from the Mi Account, use the Recovery function:
- Go to the recovery page: account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword.
- Enter the email or phone number associated with the account.
- Choose a Recovery Method: π§ Through email (link to reset password) π± Through SMS (proof-of-concept)
Create a new password (at least 8 characters, with capital letters and numbers).
If you donβt have access to either email or phone, the only option is to contact Xiaomi with proof of ownership of the account (e.g., a check to purchase a device linked to that account).
After password recovery:
- π Update your password on all devices that use Mi Account.
- π± Enable two-factor authentication in security settings.
- π Save the new password in a safe place (for example, in a password manager).
β οΈ Note: If you use the same password for Mi Account and other services (e.g., email or social networks), change it immediately! In 2023, there were cases of hacking Xiaomi accounts through data leaks from other systems.
Mi Cloud Security: How to Protect Your Data
Mi Cloud, like any cloud storage, can be a target for hackers to minimize the risks of:
- π Use a complex password (at least 12 characters with letters, numbers and special characters).
- π± Enable two-factor authentication in your account settings.

- π Check the list of devices connected to your account (Settings) regularly β Mi Account. β Devices).
Additional security measures:
