You delete an important phone number on Xiaomi and you don't know how to get it back? The situation is familiar to many people: accidental clicking, resetting or system failure โ and the contact disappears from the phonebook. Fortunately, owners of Redmi, POCO or Mi smartphones have several ways to recover, even if there is no backup. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods, from standard MIUI tools to hidden Android features that work on models from Xiaomi 11T to Redmi Note 12.
It's important to understand that recovery success depends on how long ago the contact was deleted and whether the sync or backup was enabled. If the number went missing less than a month ago, the chances of returning it are higher than 80%. If it's been a few months, you have to use special utilities or contact a service center. We collected instructions for all scenarios, including cases where the phone was reset to factory settings.
Before you start, check: 1) Is your Xiaomi connected to the Internet (need to sync with the cloud). 2 Do you have access to a Google Account or Mi Account that was linked to the phone at the time of deletion. 3 Have you installed new MIUI updates after deleting the contact - they can overwrite temporary files.
1. Recovery via MI Cloud (official way from Xiaomi)
MI Cloud is a cloud storage from Xiaomi that automatically saves contacts if sync is enabled. The method works on all smartphones with MIUI 10 and later, including POCO X5, Redmi 10 and Xiaomi 13.
To restore contacts through MI Cloud:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Go to Mi Account. โ MI Cloud.
- Select the Contacts section and check if synchronization is enabled (the slider must be active).
- If contacts are synced, click Restore and select the desired backup by date.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have never switched on synchronization with MI Cloud, this won't work. Then move on to the next method.
- โ It works even after resetting the phone to factory settings.
- โ Restores not only the numbers, but also attached photos, mail, birthdays.
- โ It will not help if the Mi Account is not linked or synchronization is disabled.
- โ Recovery is possible only from existing backups (maximum in the last 30 days).
2. Use of Google Contacts (if synced with Google)
If you use Google Account as your primary sync tool, you can restore contacts through the web version of Google Contacts, which is universal and works on all Android devices, including Xiaomi, and the main thing is that before deleting contacts are stored in Google Account, not in the memory of the phone.
Instructions:
- Open contacts.google.com on your computer or phone and log in.
- In the left menu, click Cancel Changes.
- Select a time range (maximum 30 days ago) and confirm your recovery.
If the option to Cancel Changes is not available, try:
- ๐ Manually find contact in the archive: menu โ Archives.
- ๐ฅ Export backup copy: Menu โ Exports โ Google CSV (if there's a backup).
- ๐ Check other Google accounts if there are multiple accounts.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you deleted a contact more than a month ago, Google Contacts will not be able to restore it.
Check that the phone is connected to the internet.
Make sure your contacts sync with Google is enabled (Settings โ Accounts โ Google โ Contact Sync)
Remember the date the contact was deleted (required to roll back the changes)
Try to login to Google Account on another device (in case of blocking)
-->
3. Search in MIUI backups (local and cloud)
MIUI automatically backs up the system, including contacts, if Backup is enabled, and these backups are stored both in the cloud (MI Cloud) and locally on the phone, to find a remote contact:
Method 1: Local backup
- Open Settings โ Additional โ Backup and Reset.
- Select Local Backups and find the file with the date preceding the deletion.
- Click Restore and select Contacts only (so as not to overwrite other data).
Method 2: Cloud backup
- ๐ฑ Go to Settings. โ Mi Account โ MI Cloud โ Backup copies.
- ๐ Select backup by date and restore only contacts.
- โ๏ธ If the copy is damaged, try to restore it on another Xiaomi device.
| Type of backup | Where it's stored | Max. Shelf life. | How to repair |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local (MIUI Backup) | Phone Memory (/MIUI/backup/AllBackup) | Until manual removal | Through Settings โ Backup |
| Cloud (MI Cloud) | Xiaomi servers | 30 days (for a free account) | Through MI Cloud โ Backups |
| Google Contacts | Google servers | 30 days (cancellation of changes) | Through contacts.google.com |
Critical information: If you reset your phone to factory settings, local backups will be deleted, leaving only cloud recovery via MI Cloud or Google.
4. Recovery through reanimation applications (for power users)
If standard methods donโt work, you can try specialized utilities that scan the phoneโs memory for deleted data, which is suitable for root rights and without them, but the effectiveness depends on the Xiaomi model and the version of MIUI.
The best applications for restoring contacts:
- ๐ฑ DiskDigger โ Searches for deleted files, including contact databases (contacts.db).
- ๐ GT Recovery โ specializes in recovery SMS and no root contacts.
- ๐ ๏ธ EaseUS MobiSaver โ paid, but with a high percentage of successful recovery.
โ ๏ธ Note: When using such programs: 1) Do not install them on the same phone from which the contacts were deleted - this will overwrite the data. 2) Connect Xiaomi to the PC in file transfer mode (MTP). 3) Do not save the recovered contacts back to the phone until the scan is completed.
If you have root rights, you have a better chance of success.
- Install Root Explorer or FX File Explorer.
- Go to /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/.
- Find the contacts.db file and copy it to your PC.
- Use SQLite Browser to extract contacts from the database.
What if the app doesnโt find the remote contacts?
5 Manual recovery from the VCF file (if exported)
If you've ever exported contacts to a.vcf file (for example, to transfer to another phone), you can restore them in seconds. This method works 100% if you have a copy.
How to import contacts from VCF:
- Copy the contacts.vcf file to your phone (e.g. via Bluetooth or Google Drive).
- Open the Contacts app on Xiaomi.
- Press three points (โฎ) in the upper right corner and select Import/Export โ Import from.vcf file.
- Specify the path to the file and confirm the import.
If the.vcf file is corrupted, try:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Open it on PC via Outlook or Google Contacts.
- ๐ Copy data manually if the format is readable.
- ๐ง Use online services for recovery VCF (for example, VCF Repair).
๐ก
Export your contacts to VCF regularly! It will take less than a minute, but save you from data loss: Store the file in the cloud (Google Drive, MI Cloud) or send it to your own mail.
6. Contact Xiaomi Service Center (extreme case)
If none of the methods worked, you can contact the official Xiaomi service center.
- ๐ต The phone is not switched on or locked.
- ๐ Contacts were deleted after resetting settings and there are no backups.
- ๐ ๏ธ Physical recovery of data from damaged memory is required.
What to do before your visit:
- Check the address of the nearest authorized service center on mi.com.
- Bring a check or a box from your phone (to confirm originality).
- Do not try to disassemble the phone yourself - this can cancel the warranty.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Data recovery in the service is a paid service (from 1,500 to 5,000 rubles depending on the complexity). If contacts are critical (for example, work numbers), this is justified. Otherwise, it is cheaper and faster to use the programs in section 4.
๐ก
A service center is the only way to get your contacts back if your phone is physically damaged (such as after a fall or water hit), and in other cases, try software methods first.
How to Prevent Loss of Contact in the Future
To avoid the problem of remote contacts, set up automatic sync and backup on Xiaomi:
- โ๏ธ Turn on sync with MI Cloud: Settings โ Mi Account โ MI Cloud โ Contacts (include).
- ๐ Set up automatic backup in Google Contacts: Settings โ Accounts. โ Google โ Synchronization of contacts.
- ๐ฑ Export contacts to.vcf file regularly (once a month).
- ๐ Use backup apps like Super Backup & Restore.
Also avoid:
- โ Delete contacts directly from your call history (better do this through the Contacts app).
- โ Keeping important numbers only on SIM-map (it may fail).
- โ Resetting the phone to factory settings without prior backup.
