Accidental removal of important information from a smartphone screen is a stressful situation that many users are familiar with: When a shopping list, work plan or draft of text disappears in the Mi Notes app, the first reaction is panic, but the MIUI operating system and the new HyperOS have a mechanism to protect against such errors, which often goes unnoticed.
Before you sound the alarm, you need to understand that the data does not disappear physically immediately after you click the "Delete" button. The system only marks the storage area as free to write, and the file itself moves to a hidden buffer. Recovery of deleted notes is possible in most cases, unless you have made a full reset or deep cleaning of the device memory.
The next step depends on whether the sync with the Mi Cloud or Google Drive cloud service was enabled. If the account was active, your records may be on a remote server, otherwise you will have to resort to local search methods or use specialized software to scan the internal memory of the smartphone.
Search in the application basket Notes
The first and easiest step to take is to check the built-in cart, and in the standard Mi Notes app, deleted items are not permanently erased, but are moved to a special section called Recycle Bin or Recently Deleted, where they are stored for 30 days, after which the system automatically cleans this partition.
To access this storage, run the Notes app and look at the interface. At the top of the screen or side menu (depending on the MIUI version), there is a folder icon or icon with three dots. When you click on it, you'll see a list of all deleted records. If the information is there, just highlight it and select Restore.
⚠️ Note: The data storage period in the shopping cart is limited to 30 days. If you manually cleaned the cart or more than a month has passed, it will be impossible to return the record using standard system tools.
Importantly, this method only works for records created inside the Mi Notes app itself. Screenshots, voice recorders, or text files saved in other programs don't fall into this basket.

Recovery via Google Drive and Google Keep
Many Xiaomi users prefer to use standard Android tools instead of branded apps. If you used the Google Keep app or text files that synced with Google Drive, the recovery process will be different from working with Mi Notes.
Google Keep also has a shopping cart. Open the menu on the left, click on Settings or search for Recycle Bin. Deleted notes are stored there for 7 days. If more time has passed, data is deleted forever. For files on Google Drive, the storage period in the Recycle Bin is 30 days.
If you've used third-party text editors, check their internal settings. Many of them, like Evernote or Notion, have their own web interfaces and archives of deleted elements. The logic is similar everywhere: look for the "Trash," "Bin" or "Archive" section in the app menu or on the service site.
You should pay special attention to the startup settings. In the Google Photos app, for example, you can set up the saving of screenshots of notes. If you took a screenshot of important information, it could automatically fly to the Google cloud, even if the note app itself was removed.

Use of local backup copies

To open the developer menu, you need to quickly click on the MIUI version number 7 times in the About Phone section. Then in the menu that appears, additionally activate the Debugging by USB. Only then the computer will be able to access the file system in depth for scanning.

When scanning, don't use your phone or install new apps, and any new data recording can overwrite the memory sector where the deleted note was located, making recovery impossible.
The scanning process can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour depending on the amount of memory, and when it's done, it'll show you a list of the files it found, and if you're lucky, you'll see the text of your notes in the preview, but it's worth remembering that free versions of programs often have limits on how much data they can recover.
