Lost your contacts on Xiaomi? Don't panic - they can be returned!
Deleted or missing contacts on Xiaomi smartphones are a problem that one in five users face. The reasons can be different: accidental deletion, resetting, sync failure or even a virus attack. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to restore through an associated Mi Account โ the main thing is to know where to look.
In this article, weโll look at all the current methods of contact refund, including hidden MIUI features, cloud backups, and even manual restoration from local files. Importantly, the effectiveness of each method depends on whether the appropriate settings were enabled before data loss. If youโve never set up sync, go straight to the local recovery section.
๐น If the contacts are gone after the update MIUI or factory resets -- don't add new entries to the phone book. Each change overwrites system logs, which can make recovery impossible.
Method 1: Recovery via Mi Cloud (official method)
The most reliable way is to use Xiaomi's built-in cloud sync feature, which automatically saves contacts on the company's servers if it was activated in advance.
- Open the Contacts app on your Xiaomi.
- Tap it on three points (โฎ) top-right โ Contact management โ Imports/Exports.
- Choose Restore from Mi Cloud.
- Enter your Mi Account details (if not authorized).
- Select the desired backup from the list (sorting by date).
โ ๏ธ Note: If there are no current backups on the list, then the sync has been disabled. In this case, go to local methods. Also note that Mi Cloud only stores the last 3 backups, older ones are automatically deleted.
Check your internet connection (Wi-Fi is recommended)
Make sure there is enough space on your account (free โ 5 GB)
Close all applications that work with contacts (WhatsApp, Telegram)
Shut down. VPN (It can block access to Xiaomi servers)-->
๐ก Hidden feature: If the menu does not include Restore from Mi Cloud, try an alternative path: Settings โ Accounts and synchronization โ Mi Account โ Contact sync. You can manually start the recovery process here, even if the automatic backup didn't work.
Method 2: Export contacts from Google Account (if linked)
Many Xiaomi users are unaware that their contacts can be duplicated in a Google Account if it was linked to a device. This is especially true for models with MIUI Global, where sync with Google is enabled by default.
- ๐ฑ Open the Settings. โ Accounts and synchronization.
- ๐ Find it in the Google list and tap it.
- ๐ Make sure the contact switch is active (green).
- ๐ฅ If sync is disabled, turn it on and wait until it is completed (it can take up to 10 minutes).
If the contacts are displayed in the phone book, but duplicate - use the built-in merging tool: Contacts โ โฎ โ Contact management โ Combine duplicates.
โ ๏ธ Note: When you restore from Google, all local contacts Xiaomi will be overwritten with cloud data. SIM-Pre-export them to the.vcf file via the same Import/Export section.
| Source of recovery | Internet is required | Max. Backup age. | Supports duplicates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Cloud | Yes. | 3 last copies | No (automer) |
| Google Account | Yes. | Unlimited* | Yeah (manual merger) |
| Local MIUI backup | No. | Depends on the date of creation | No. |
| SIM-map | No. | Only current ones. | Yes. |
Google stores contacts indefinitely, but only the latest synchronized version is available for recovery.
Method 3: Local Recovery from MIUI Backup
If cloud methods donโt work, check the local backups that MIUI automatically creates when you update or reset settings. These files are stored in a hidden folder of the system and may contain contacts even a year ago.
Instructions for models Redmi Note 10/11/12, POCO X3/X4, Mi 11/12:
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB (File Transfer Mode).
- Open the Internal Storage โ MIUI โ Backup โ AllBackup folder.
- Find files with the.bak extension and the date before the contact loss.
- Copy the file to your desktop and rename it to contacts.vcf.
- Import it back through Contacts โ Import/Export โ Import from the file.
๐ง Technical details:.bak files are encrypted, but the contacts are kept in plain view. If you make a mistake when renaming, use an archiver (for example, use an archiver, 7-Zip) data-extract.
What to do if the AllBackup folder is empty?
Method 4: Recovery via Mi PC Suite (for Windows)
The official Mi PC Suite not only allows you to manage files, but also restore deleted data, including contacts, which works even if the sync with the cloud has been disabled, but requires pre-configuring on the PC.
Step-by-step:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Download and install Mi. PC Suite from the official website.
- ๐ถ Connect Xiaomi to your computer through the original USB-cable.
- ๐ Allow debugging on USB on the phone (request will appear).
- ๐ Go to the Backup & Restore section.
- ๐ Select the latest backup (if any) or click Create Backup to scan the device.
- ๐ In the data list, mark Contacts and run recovery.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Mi PC Suite may not recognize devices with unlocked bootloaders or custom firmware, in which case use alternative programs like Dr.Fone or Tenorshare UltData, but beware โ they often require root access, which voids the warranty.
1. switch USB mode to MTP (in the notification curtain).
2. Install Qualcomm or MediaTek drivers manually (depending on the processor).
3. Use another USB-port (preferably 3.0).-->
Method 5: Manual recovery from the file system (for advanced ones)
If all of the above methods fail, the last chance is to extract contacts directly from Android system files, which requires root rights and is only suitable for users with ADB experience.
Algorithm of action:
- Install Platform Tools from Google.
- Activate Developer Mode on Xiaomi (7 taps by build number in Settings โ About phone).
โ ๏ธ Critical Warning: Wrong commands ADB If you're not sure what you're doing, you can call a specialist, and remember that once you get root rights, the warranty is canceled.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all methods are exhausted, but contacts are not restored, radical measures remain:
- ๐ Appeal in support of Xiaomi: Provide IMEI Devices and proof of ownership of Mi Accounts: In rare cases, engineers can recover data from servers (free for devices under warranty).
- ๐ง Service center: The specialists have access to low-level recovery tools (e.g. Chip-Off), but the service is paid (from 3000).โฝ) It does not guarantee 100% results.
- ๐ Checking Other Devices: If you previously used the same Mi Account on another Xiaomi smartphone, contacts could have been saved there.
๐ก Prevent for the future: Set up automatic sync with Mi Cloud and Google at the same time: Settings โ Accounts and synchronization โ Autosynchronize data. Also export contacts to file regularly VCF And save it to an external storage device.
๐ก
Even if contacts seem lost, there is always a chance to get them back, and the key is to act quickly and not make new changes to the phone book until the recovery is complete.
