Losing important notes on Xiaomi Redmi is a familiar situation. Whether you accidentally deleted a record, hid it through the privacy feature, or a note disappeared after resetting, there are almost always chances of recovery. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to return hidden or deleted notes, including working with MI Cloud, backups, system folders and even third-party utilities.
The feature of Xiaomiโs Notes app is that it integrates with Mi Account, but it stores local copies in protected memory, which means that even if you havenโt enabled synchronization, some of the data can be recovered through Androidโs internal mechanisms.
It is important to understand the difference between hidden and deleted notes:
- ๐ Hidden notes โ purposefully hidden by the user through the password protection or private mode function in the application. They are not displayed in the main list, but physically remain in the device memory.
- ๐๏ธ Deleted notes โ moved to the cart (stored for 30 days) or permanently deleted, in the latter case, you will need backup copies or specialized tools.
1. Checking the basket in the app โNotesโ
The first thing you need to do is to look in the application cart. Xiaomi defaults to save deleted notes for 30 days, after which they are deleted irrevocably.
- Open the Notes app (yellow notebook icon).
- Tap it on three points (โฎ) top-right โ pick the basket.
- Find the desired note, click on it โ Restore.
If the cart is empty or the note was deleted more than a month ago, go to the following methods. Please note: in some MIUI firmware (for example, the global version for Redmi Note 12), the basket may be disabled by default - check the application settings.
๐ก
If you regularly clean your cart manually, try recovering notes through MI Cloud (Section 2). Local copies in the cart are erased first, and cloud ones can be stored longer.
2. Recovery via MI Cloud (cloud storage)
If your Redmi is synced to Mi Account, all notes are automatically backed up in the cloud to be returned:
- Go to Settings โ Xiaomi Account โ Mi Cloud.
- Make sure that the slider opposite the Note is active (green).
- Open the Notes app, pull the screen down to update the data.
- If notes do not appear, click on the profile avatar in the upper right corner โ Sync.
If the sync is disabled, try to turn it on and wait for the data to load, and in some cases, the notes are not restored immediately, but after 5-10 minutes.
- ๐ถ Connect to Wi-Fi (cloud sync works faster over high-speed connection).
- ๐ Reboot your smartphone after synchronization is enabled.
- ๐ฑ Check if you are using another Mi Account โ notes are linked to a specific profile.
โ ๏ธ Warning: If you reset your smartphone to factory settings and didnโt restore backup MI Cloud may not show up when you first set up your cloud notes. In this case, try the methods in Sections 4 or 5.
3. Search for hidden notes in private mode
The MIUI Private Mode feature allows you to hide your notes behind a password or fingerprint, and if you forget that the note was hidden, you can find it like this:
- Open Notes โ tap on the Castle icon (or Private Mode) in the lower menu.
- Enter the password/fingerprint you used to lock.
- Check the list of hidden notes โ they can be sorted by date or tags.
If you forget your private password, you can reset it through Settings โ Passwords & Security โ Private Mode โ Forgot your password. You will need confirmation via Mi Account or SMS. Please note: after reset, all hidden data will be unlocked, but not deleted.
What to do if the private mode is not opened?
On some Redmi models (such as the Redmi 10 or Note 11), private mode can be hidden in the app settings to activate it:
- Open your notes. โ Settings (โ๏ธ) โ Private regime.
- Follow the instructions for setting the password.
- After activating, check if your notes appear.
4. Manual recovery through the file system
If notes are not synced to the cloud and are not in the cart, you can try to find them manually through system folders. This will require a file manager with access to root (for example, MiXplorer or Root Explorer) or ADB-team.
Local notes are stored in the folder:
/data/data/com.miui.notes/files/notes/(for new versions of MIUI):
/data/data/com.miui.notes/shared_prefs/Note files usually have an extension.db (SQLite database) or.json.
- ๐ Use it. ADB (If there are no root rights: adb pull /data/data/com.miui.notes/files/notes/ C:\notes_backup (Replace the path with the one that is relevant to your firmware).
- ๐ If files are found, open them via SQLite Browser or text editor (for.json).
- ๐ ๏ธ To restore the structure of notes may require conversion to a readable format.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Working with system folders /data/data/ Requires root rights or debugging bridge ADB. Incorrect actions can cause the Notes app to crash. If you are unsure of your skills, skip this method or consult a specialist.

| Method of recovery | Conditions required | Implementation time | Chance of success |
|---|---|---|---|

| MI Cloud | Synchronization enabled before removal | 5-15 minutes | โญโญโญโญ |
| Private regime | Note hidden, password known | 2-5 minutes | โญโญโญโญโญ |

5.Use of third-party utilities for recovery
If system methods do not help, you can use specialized programs for data recovery.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Dr.Fone (Wondershare) โ supports recovery of notes, messages and media files. Requires a smartphone to connect to a PC USB.
- ๐ฑ DiskDigger โ works directly on the device (root rights are needed for deep scanning).
- ๐ง EaseUS MobiSaver โ Recovers data from internal memory and SD-map.
Instructions for Dr.Fone:
- Install the program on your PC and connect Redmi via USB (enable USB debugging in the developer settings).
- Select the Android Data Recovery mode.
- Check the notes and click on the next.
- Confirm the scan (root access may be required).
- After completion, select the desired notes and save them on the PC.
Warnings when working with third-party utilities:
- ๐ซ Avoid programs that require payment before scanning results are shown.
- ๐ต Donโt install restored notes back on your smartphone right away โ check them on your PC first.
- ๐ After recovery, change the passwords from Mi Account and private mode (in case of data leakage).
๐ก
Third-party utilities are only effective if your notes haven't been overwritten with new data, and the more you use your smartphone after you've been deleted, the lower your chances of recovery.
6.Recovery through MIUI backup
If you have previously created a local backup through Settings โ Additional โ Backup and Reset, notes can be returned from there.
- Go to Settings โ About Phone โ tap 7 times on the MIUI version to activate the developer mode.
- Return to Settings โ Additional โ Backup and Reset โ Local Backup.
- Select the last backup (check the creation date โ it should be before deleting notes).
- Click Restore and confirm the action.
Important: When you recover from the backup, all current data (including new notes) will be replaced with those in the backup, to avoid loss:
- ๐ค Pre-export current notes manually (open the note) โ Share. โ file).
- ๐ After recovery, synchronize the data with MI Cloud to avoid conflicts.
If there are no local backups, check the cloud backups:
- Go to Settings โ Xiaomi Account โ Mi Cloud โ Backup of the device.
- Select the device and the date of the backup โ Restore.
7. Appeal in support of Xiaomi
If none of these methods worked, the last chance is to call Xiaomiโs official support.
- ๐ฑ Notes were critical (e.g. work documents or personal data).
- ๐ You have evidence of synchronization with MI Cloud (screenshots, history of payments for the cloud).
- ๐ ๏ธ You suspect a malfunction in the work of Xiaomi services (for example, notes disappeared after the update) MIUI).
To contact support:
- Go to mi.com/support.
- Select the Mi Cloud or Applications section.
- Describe the problem in as much detail as possible: Smartphone model (Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Redmi 13C, etc.) MIUI version (you can find out in Settings โ About phone), date and time of deletion / missing notes, whether sync with MI Cloud was enabled.
Attach screenshots (e.g., an empty list of notes or synchronization errors).
Support response time ranges from 24 hours to 3 business days, and in some cases they can recover data from their servers even if you donโt see it in MI Cloud, but the odds depend on your regionโs storage policies (the EU and the US may have different retention times).
8.Prevention: How to avoid loss of notes in the future
To avoid missing notes, follow these rules:
- โ๏ธ Enable automatic synchronization: Open Settings โ Xiaomi account โ Mi Cloud. Activate the slider opposite Notes. Click Sync manually to check.
Create local backups regularly
- Use Settings โ Additional โ Backup and Reset.
- Save copies to your PC or external drive.
Set up two-level protection
- For private mode, use a complex password (not date of birth!).
- Link Mi Account to your email and phone number to restore access.
Export important notes
- Open the note โ Share โ Select the format (.txt,.pdf).
- Save the file to Google Drive or send it to an email.
If you often work with sensitive data, consider alternative note-taking apps with improved security, such as:
- ๐ Standard Notes (Customer-Side Encryption).
- ๐ฑ Notion (cloud storage) + PC-version).
- ๐ก๏ธ Cryptomator (additional encryption for any notes).
Chances of success: ~40-60%, depending on the cause of the breakdown.
