Why itβs important to delete conversation records on Xiaomi Redmi
Recording phone conversations on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is a useful feature for capturing important information, but it harbors hidden risks. Even after deleting them through the standard Dictophone or Call Records app, files can remain in the deviceβs memory in encrypted form or in backup copies, which poses a threat of leaking sensitive data when selling the phone, transferring it for repair or even when connecting to a computer.
The problem is complicated by the fact that Xiaomi uses its own file system. MIUI, where temporary files and application cache are stored in non-obvious folders, for example, records from the Call Record application (built into the firmware) can be duplicated in /MIUI/sound_recorder/backups/, a third-party applications such as Cube Call Recorder or ACR leave marks /Android/data/. Without complete cleaning, these files can be restored using special software.
In this article, we will discuss 7 ways to delete - from basic to advanced, including cleaning hidden folders, resetting cache and working with ADB. You will also learn how to check if files are deleted, and what to do if the records "resurrect" after rebooting.
Method 1: Delete through the standard application "Records"
The most obvious method is to use the built-in Records app (or Dictator, depending on the version of MIUI), which automatically saves all recorded conversations if the feature is activated in the phone's settings. Here's how to clear the data:
- Open the Records app (icon with microphone).
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Records Management.
- Tick unneeded files or click Select All.
- Slip on the basket icon ("Delete") and confirm the action.
β οΈ Warning: The files that are deleted through this menu are then sent to the application cart and stored for up to 30 days to be cleared:
- Go to the Recycle Bin section in the same app.
- Click Clear the Recycle Bin or select files manually.
Make sure files are removed from the main list|Clean the application basket|Reboot your phone to apply changes|Check the free space in memory-->
This method is suitable for surface deletion, but does not guarantee complete cleanup. For example, if you used third-party recording applications (for example, Boldbeast or Call Recorder by Lovekesh), their files will remain intact. MIUI records are duplicated in the folder /MIUI/voice_assistant/, which the standard application does not affect.
Method 2: Manually cleansing through file manager
If you want to manually delete your records, you need access to your phone's file system, and any manager, whether it's Xiaomi's built-in Files or a third-party one (e.g. Solid Explorer, FX File Manager), can do that.
- π Open the file manager and go to the internal memory (or SD-map, if the records were stored there).
- π Enable the display of hidden files: in Solid Explorer, this is β° β Settings β Show hidden files.
- ποΈ Find and remove folders from this list (if they exist): /MIUI/sound_recorder/ β Xiaomi standard records; /MIUI/voice_assistant/ β voice-assistant; /Android/data/com.miui.voicerecord/ β cache of the application βRecordsΒ»; /Recorder/ or /CallRecordings/ β third-party.
| folder | Contents | Can I remove it? |
|---|---|---|
| /MIUI/sound_recorder/ | Records from a standard dictaphone | Yeah, totally. |
| /Android/data/com.miui.voicerecord/ | Cache and temporary files | Yeah, but the file will recover. |
| /Recorder/ | Records of third-party applications | Yes, if the application is removed |
| /MIUI/voice_assistant/ | Duplicates for voice assistant | Yeah, but they might come back. |
β οΈ Attention: Do not delete folders /Android/obb/ or /Android/data/ In the end, it will cause installed applications to fail. Also avoid directories with the names system, vendor or cust, as they contain critical firmware files.

If the folder is not deleted, try stopping the Write application process in the settings (Settings β Applications β Application Management β Records β Stop).
Method 3: Cleaning through the settings of the Records application
If you don't want to go through the file system, you can clear the data directly from the application settings, and this method will delete not only the records themselves, but all the files associated with them (cache, settings, temporary data).
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the list of Records** (or "Dictophon", "Voice Recorder").
This method will delete all records without recovery, but will not affect files created by third-party applications to record calls, and it will reset the voice recorder settings (for example, the format of the save or the default folder).

Once cleaned, it is recommended to restart the phone, as some temporary files may remain in memory until the reboot. If you used Google Drive or Mi Cloud to back up your records, remember to delete them from there as well (more on that in the next section).
Method 4: Remove backups in the cloud
Many Xiaomi Redmi users are unaware that their call records are automatically synchronized with cloud services.
- π₯οΈ Mi Cloud (Integrated Cloud) by Xiaomi);
- βοΈ Google Drive (if sync is enabled via Google One);
- π± Local backups (created when resetting settings).
To remove the entries from Mi Cloud:
- Open the βMi Cloudβ app** (or go to Settings β Xiaomi Account β Mi Cloud).
For Google Drive:
- Open Google Drive in your browser.
- In the search bar, type:audio or the name of the app (such as Cube Call Recorder).
- Select unnecessary files and click Delete.
- Donβt forget to clean the Google Drive Recycle Bin (it stores files for 30 days).
What if the records are synced with an account that is not accessible?
β οΈ Note: If you are selling or transferring a phone to another person, it is not enough to simply delete the records from the cloud. You need to log out of all accounts (Mi Account, Google) and perform a factory reset (about this in method 6). Otherwise, the new owner will be able to recover your data through the Recovery function from backup.
Method 5: Using ADB for deep cleaning
For advanced users who want to securely remove all traces of records, the ADB (Android Debug Bridge) method is suitable, which allows you to manage the file system at a low level and clean up data that is not available through the standard interface.
Before starting work:
- π§ Enable Developer Mode on Phone: Go to Settings β About the phone and 7 times tap on the version MIUI.
- π Activate debugging on USB In Settings β Additionally. β For developers.
- π» Install. ADB-computer-driver.
Next, execute the following commands in the terminal (command line):
adb shell
pm clear com.miui.voicerecord # Data cleanup of standard voice recorder
rm -rf /sdcard/MIUI/sound_recorder/* # Delete all entries in a standard folder
rm -rf /sdcard/Android/data/com.miui.voicerecord/* # Cache cleaningTo delete records of third-party applications (such as Cube Call Recorder) use:
pm clear com.cube.callrecorder # Replace with your app package
rm -rf /sdcard/Recorder/*π‘
Using ADB is the most reliable way to delete, as it bypasses the limitations of the file manager and cleans the data at the system level. However, the wrong commands can cause your phone to crash, so only use this method if you are confident in your actions.
Once you have completed the commands, restart your phone. To check if there are traces of records, you can use data recovery applications (such as DiskDigger or Undeleter), and if the files are not detected, the cleanup was successful.
Method 6: Complete reset (hard reset)
If you're planning to sell or transfer a phone and you've recorded conversations before, the only way you can guarantee that you delete all data is to reset it to factory settings.
- π± All user files (including records);
- π Application settings and systems;
- βοΈ Account information (if you do not leave them in advance).
Instructions for Xiaomi Redmi:
- Back up important data (photos, contacts, etc.).
- Log out of all accounts (Mi Account, Google, social networks).
- Go to Settings β About the phone β Reset settings.
- Choose to erase all data and confirm the action.
- Wait until the process is completed (the phone will restart).
β οΈ Note: Some Redmi models (e.g. Redmi Note) 10 Pro or Redmi K50) after the reset, there's a folder /MIUI/backup/AllBackup/ backups, to delete it after it's reset:
- Enter the file manager.
- Find the AllBackup folder and manually delete it.
- Re-reset (optional, for complete cleaning).
This method is irreversible, all data will be lost, and if you don't plan to part with your phone, use it only as a last resort.
Method 7: Encrypting and overwriting data (for paranoids)
If you are dealing with sensitive information (such as business records or legal advice), even resetting your settings may not give you a 100% guarantee of deletion.
- Encrypt your phone's memory: Go to Settings β Security β Encryption and credentials. Choose Encrypt your phone and set a strong password. After encryption, reset your settings.
Rewrite the free space:
- Download the application for secure removal (such as Secure Delete or iShredder).
- Select the Rewrite mode with random data (3-7 passes).
- Start the process β it can take several hours.
These techniques are used in corporate environments or when dealing with data subject to the law on personal information (for example, recording conversations with customers), they make file recovery almost impossible, but they are time-consuming and can reduce the life of flash memory.
