Frequent errors when backing up contacts on Xiaomi
Even experienced users sometimes make mistakes that make backups useless, and here are the most common mistakes and how to avoid them:
- ๐ซ Ignoring copy verification: Many backups are created but don't check to see if they're being restored.Always test the copy on another device or after a reset!
- ๐ Multiple account sync: If contacts are scattered across different Google or Mi accounts, they may be duplicated or lost when they are restored.
- ๐ฑ Store a copy only on your phone: if the device breaks, the file will be lost. Always duplicate the copy to the cloud or external media.
- ๐ No password on local copy:.vcf or AllBackup folder can be accessed by attackers if the phone is lost.
Another common problem is MIUI version conflict, for example, a backup created on MIUI 13 may not be restored to MIUI 14 due to changes in the data structure.
- Before updating the firmware, make a fresh copy.
- Use Google Contacts for mission-critical data โ itโs compatible with all versions.
- If you plan to upgrade to a new version of MIUI, check first on forums (such as 4PDA or XDA-Developers) if there are any problems with recovery.
