Saving photos from WhatsApp to the gallery on Xiaomi smartphones (including Redmi and POCO) is a frequent question for users, because the MIUI shell has features for working with messenger media files, and autosave settings can be lost after updates. Adding complexity, Xiaomi uses its own Mi Gallery, which sometimes ignores media files from third-party apps. For example, after upgrading to MIUI 15, many users complain that Watsap photos are only displayed in the messenger itself, not in the system gallery.

Method 5: Using Google Photos to Backup
If the problems with saving to the Xiaomi gallery are not solved, you can set up an automatic upload of photos from WhatsApp to Google Photos.This method ensures that files are available even when MIUI crashes:
