Transferring contacts from Xiaomi to your computer is a task that every user sooner or later faces. Whether you buy a new phone, want to make a backup or just organize an address book on your PC, the copying process can seem difficult due to the variety of models (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Mi 13) and versions of MIUI. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods β from standard synchronization functions to manual export via vCard β and also reveal the hidden limitations of MIUI when working with contacts via USB.
Xiaomiβs smartphone features are tight integration with the companyβs ecosystem, which means that the simplest transfer method (via Mi Account) is only available to registered users, and alternative methods require additional actions. We analyzed each option, taking into account the nuances of different versions of MIUI (12 to 14) and typical user errors, so that you can choose the optimal path without the risk of data loss.
1. Transfer contacts via Mi Account (the fastest way)
If you use a Xiaomi branded account, this method will take no more than 5 minutes. All contacts are automatically synced to the company cloud, and they can be downloaded to a PC in.vcf format. Importantly, the method works only with an active Internet connection and a tied Mi Account.
Instructions:
- π± Open the Contacts app on your phone.
- π Click on three dots in the upper right corner β Contact management β Imports/Exports.
- βοΈ Select Export to Mi Cloud (if contacts are not already synced, turn on the option in your account settings).
- π» Go to i.mi.com, log in and download the contacts.vcf file.
Check the connection to Wi-Fi
Make sure your contacts are saved to your Mi Account (not Google or SIM)
Update MIUI to the latest version (export bugs are possible in older versions)
- Free up space in the cloud (if the limit is exceeded)-->
β οΈ Attention: B MIUI 14 When exported through the cloud, photos of contacts are sometimes lost. Use alternative methods to save avatars (see Section 3).
2. synchronization with Google Account (universal method)
This is a way for Xiaomi owners who don't want to be attached to the brand ecosystem. Contacts sync with Google Contacts, where they can be exported to a PC in any browser. The advantage is cross-platform: you will get access to numbers on any device with Google authorization.
Step-by-step:
- π± Go to Settings. β Accounts and synchronization β Google.
- π Enable Contact Synchronization (if disabled).
- π» Open on your computer Google Contacts.
- βοΈ Press Export. β Choose the Google format CSV vCard β Export.
| Export format | Support for photos | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|
| Google CSV | β No. | Only for importing into Google |
| vCard (VCF) | β Yes. | Any devices and programs |
| Outlook CSV | β No. | Microsoft Outlook, Excel |
β οΈ Note: If you previously synced contacts with Mi Account and now switch to Google, duplicates are possible. Before exporting, clear Google Contacts of old entries via Combine and Fix.

3. Manual copying through USB-cable (for users without clouds)
If you prefer to store data locally or you don't have access to the Internet, this is your choice, but it has a critical limitation: MIUI has disabled access to the contact folder via MTP by default, and you'll need to turn on Developer Mode to get around this.
Instructions:
- π Connect your phone to your PC through USB-Cable (use the original cable for stability).
- π± On the phone, select File Transfer Mode (MTP).
- π§ Enable Developer Mode (go to Settings) β The phone. β Version. MIUI, press 7 times).
- π Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers and activate debugging by USB.
- π On PC, open the Internal Storage folder β MIUI β backup β AllBackup (if the folder is empty, back up your contacts via Settings) β Additionally. β Backup and reset).
Why can't the contact folder be displayed?
β οΈ Note: When connecting through MTP Some antiviruses (such as Avast or Kaspersky) can block access to Xiaomi system folders.
Exporting contacts via Bluetooth (for small data volumes)
If you don't have enough contacts (up to 50) and you don't have a cable, you can use Bluetooth, which is slow and inconvenient for large address books, but it works without the Internet or any additional software, and the main disadvantage is that it's transmitted one time, and no photos are saved.
How to move:
- π± On the phone, open contacts, select the desired contact. β Share. β Bluetooth.
- π» On PC, turn on Bluetooth and make the device detectable.
- π Confirm the pairing on both devices.
- π₯ Accept the.vcf file on your computer (usually saved to the Downloads folder).
π‘
To speed up the process, export contacts in groups: highlight a few entries in the Contacts app, then tap Share β Bluetooth. MIUI 14 supports group export of up to 10 contacts at a time.
5. Use of third-party applications (for advanced users)
If the standard methods don't work, third-party tools will come to the rescue, and we tested 5 popular apps and selected the two most reliable ones:
| Annex | Functional | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| My Contacts Backup | Export to VCF/Excel, backup to the cloud | Advertising, limit to 500 contacts in the free version |
| Super Backup & Restore | Full backup of contacts, SMS, call logs | Requires root for some functions |
Recommendations for use:
- π² Install the app from Google Play (avoid it) APK third-party).
- π Provide access to contacts and storage.
- π€ Export the data to VCF Send the file to your mail or messenger.
- π» Download the file to your PC and import it to Outlook, Excel, or Google Contacts.
β οΈ Note: Applications like My Contacts Backup sometimes save data in an unsecured form. If contacts contain sensitive information, encrypt the file. VCF before sending (for example, through the 7-Zip password-wise).
6. backup via MIUI Backup (hidden function)
MIUI has a built-in full backup feature that stores contacts in an encrypted archive, a method that is suitable for creating a full copy of a phone's data, but only extracting contacts from it is more difficult.
How to make a backup:
- π± Go to Settings. β Additionally. β Backup and reset β Local backups.
- π Select Contacts (you can add other data) β Backup.
- π Backup file will be saved in Internal Storage β MIUI β backup β AllBackup.
- π» Connect your phone to your PC and copy the file (.bak extension).

For most users, sync is best through Google Account, which combines speed, reliability and cross-platformity, and if it is important to save photos of contacts, use exporting to VCF via USB or third-party apps.
