Notes on Xiaomi smartphones often contain important information, from work tasks to personal reminders. Losing this data can be a serious problem, especially if you did not back up in advance. Unlike photos or contacts, notes are not always automatically synchronized with cloud services, and their recovery after a phone reset or breakage may be impossible without prior backup.
In this article, weβll look at all the current ways to copy notes on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices (including models on MIUI 12-14 and HyperOS). Youβll learn how to save data to Mi Cloud, Google Drive, computer or even manually through the file system.
1. Backup of Notes through Mi Cloud
The easiest and most recommended way is to use Mi Cloud, which is integrated into Xiaomiβs ecosystem and automatically backs up notes if the feature is enabled, but there are pitfalls: not all notes are synced, and when you change your account, data can be lost.
To enable synchronization:
- Open the Notes app on your Xiaomi.
- Slip on the profile icon (or three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner.
- Select Settings β Synchronization of notes.
- Activate the switch next to Mi Cloud and confirm your Xiaomi account.
Make sure that the settings indicate the correct Mi Account.|Check for Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)|Open any note and wait for the cloud icon to appear next to the date|Restart your phone and check if your notes are still in place.-->
β οΈ Attention: If you are using MIUI 14 or later, some notes with attached files (e.g, PDF Or images) may not sync, in which case use alternative methods from the following sections.
| The Benefits of Mi Cloud | Disadvantages of Mi Cloud |
|---|---|
| Automatic synchronization | Volume limit (5β10 GB depending on account) |
| Quick recovery on a new device | Not all note formats are supported |
| Integration with other Xiaomi services | Account Linking β Loss of Access = Data Loss |
2.Export notes to Google Drive
If you prefer a Google ecosystem or want an extra copy, you can export notes to Google Drive, a method that is suitable for users who use Google Keep or want to save data in a universal format.
Instructions:
- Install the Google Keep app from the Play Market if it hasnβt already been installed.
- Open the standard Notes app on Xiaomi.
- Select the note you want to copy and click Share (three-dot icon).
- In the export menu, select Google Keep.
- After transferring all the notes, open Google Keep, click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Export to Google Docs or Save to Drive.
π‘ Useful tip: If there are many notes, use the function to highlight everything in the Notes folder and export them in a package. To do this, click and hold any note, then tap on the rest.

3. Local copying of notes on the phone
If you don't trust cloud services or you don't have a stable Internet connection, you can save notes locally in your phone's memory, a method that's good for backing up before you reset or update your firmware.
For this:
- Open the Notes app.
- Go to Settings. β Exports and imports.
- Select Note Export and specify a folder to save (such as Downloads or Documents).
- The file will be saved in.zip format with the name notes_backup_[date.zip.
β οΈ Note: The local copy is not protected from physical damage to the phone, and we recommend that you copy the file to your computer or external drive. Also note that some characters in notes (such as emojis or special signs) may not appear correctly when imported on another device.

4. Copy notes via computer (ADB or Mi PC Suite)
For advanced users, it is possible to copy notes directly through ADB (Android Debug Bridge) or the official Mi PC Suite utility. This method is useful if the phone is not turned on, but the file system is available.
Method 1: Through Mi PC Suite
- Download and install Mi PC Suite on your computer.
- Connect your phone to your PC through USB-cable (turn on debugging by USB developer-setting).
- In the program, select the Backup section and tick Notes.
- Click Create a backup and wait for the process to complete.
Method 2: ADB (for experienced users)
If the Mi PC Suite does not recognize the device, you can manually copy the Notes database:
adb pull /data/data/com.miui.notes/shared_prefs/com.miui.notes_preferences.xml
adb pull /data/data/com.miui.notes/databases/notes.dbThe notes.db file contains all notes in SQLite format. Use programs like DB Browser for SQLite to view it.
π‘
If ADB doesnβt see the device, check if USB debugging is enabled in the developer settings (Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version (7 times) β Developer Settings β USB debugging).
5 Manually transfer notes through the file system
If standard methods fail (e.g., due to a Notes app failure), you can manually find note files in your phoneβs memory, which requires root rights or access to a file manager with superuser rights (e.g., Solid Explorer or FX File Explorer).
The way to notes:
- π Database: /data/data/com.miui.notes/databases/notes.db
- π Attachments (images, files): /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/Notes/
- π Settings: /data/data/com.miui.notes/shared_prefs/
β οΈ Note: Without root rights, you canβt copy files from a folder /data/data/. In this case, only export through the application settings remains (see section). 3) or cloud synchronization.
π‘
Hand-porting notes is an extreme method, and only use it if other methods don't work, as doing the wrong thing can lead to data loss.
6. Alternative note-taking applications with autosynchronization
If the standard Notes app on Xiaomi doesnβt suit you, consider auto-sync alternatives:
| Annex | Advantages | How to transfer notes |
|---|---|---|
| Google Keep | Integration with Google services, voice notes | Exporting through βShareβ β Google Keep |
| Evernote | Advanced formatting, tags, text search in PDF | Import from.enex file (pre-export notes to.zip and convert) |
| OneNote | Support for handwriting, structuring by notebooks | Copy text manually or through Share β OneNote |
π‘ Tip: When switching to another app, export all notes from the standard Note in.zip format first to have a backup copy.
7.Recovery of Notes After Resetting or Breaking a Phone
If you lose access to your notes (for example, after a hard reset or a phone breakage), you can recover them in several ways:
- π From Mi Cloud: When you first log in to your Xiaomi account on a new device, notes are synced automatically if you previously enabled the option.
- πΎ From local copy: If you have saved a.zip archive, import it through Settings β Imports in the annex Notes.
- π₯οΈ Through Mi. PC Suite: Connect your new phone to your PC and restore data from a previously created backup.
β οΈ Note: If the notes were deleted more than 30 days ago, they cannot be restored from the Mi Cloud - the service stores the data for a limited time.
