Why downloads are lost on Xiaomi and how to find them quickly
You downloaded a document, photo or video, but canโt find the file on a Xiaomi, Redmi or smartphone. POCO? The problem is familiar to many users. MIUI. Method 1: Standard Downloads folder in the file manager
The most logical place to search is the built-in file manager. MIUI (By default, all files downloaded through the browser or email go to the Download folder (also known as Downloads:
- Open the Files app (if you donโt find it, check the Tools folder or use a smartphone search).
- In the Local Storage or Device section, find the Download folder (sometimes called Downloads on Russian firmware).
- If there is no folder, check the Category section. โ Downloads (in new versions) MIUI files are grouped by type).
Note: on some models (e.g. Xiaomi Mi) 10T or Redmi 9A) Download folder can be hidden to see it:
- ๐ Click on three dots in the upper right corner of the file manager.
- ๐ Select Show hidden files.
- ๐ If you donโt have a folder, try updating your file manager with Google Play.
If you downloaded files from Google Chrome, Mi Browser or Firefox, they should be here, but there are exceptions: some messengers (such as Telegram or WhatsApp) save files to their folders, as we will discuss below.

To quickly open the Downloads folder, add it to Favorites in the file manager: click on the folder with a long tap. โ Add to the select few.
Method 2: Search through System Explorer (for power users)
If the standard file manager does not show the desired files, you can use the system explorer. MIUI File Explorer (hidden in the developer settings) or third-party applications like Solid Explorer or FX File Manager: This method will help you find files, even if they are saved in non-standard folders.
Instructions for system conductor:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings โ About Phone and tap the MIUI version 7 times.

For Google Chrome:
- Open Chrome and tap three dots in the upper right corner.
- Select Downloads (or Downloads in English).
- Here you will see a list of all downloaded files with the ability to open them or go to the storage folder.
For Mi Browser:

For Firefox:
Firefox download history is available through the menu โฎ โ Downloads. The thing about this browser is that it allows you to change the folder to save files. If you don't find downloads, check your settings:
- Open the Firefox Settings โ Downloads.
- See the path in the Download folder section.
- If the path is changed, follow it through the file manager.

Method 4: Downloads from messengers and social networks
Files received via Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber or VK, It's stored separately from the standard Download folder, and each messenger creates its own directory in the memory of the smartphone:
Telegram:
- ๐ folder: /storage/emulated/0/Telegram/Telegram Documents (documents) or Telegram Images (photos).

WhatsApp:

If you do not find files in the specified folders, check:

- ๐ง Messenger settings โ perhaps saving files is disabled.

Method 5: Search across the device (including hidden files)
If you don't remember which application you downloaded the file from, or if it "disappeared" from standard folders, use a global search by device. MIUI There's a built-in file search feature, but it doesn't always show hidden or system folders:
Search through the file manager MIUI:
- Open the Files app.
- Slip on the icon of the magnifier (search) in the top menu.
- Enter the name of the file or a part of it (for example,.pdf,.apk).
- If the file is not found, turn on the option to Show hidden files in the manager settings.
Search through Google Files (Files by Google):
Files by Google (install from Play Market) searches for files deeper than the standard manager.
- ๐ Click on Search in the lower menu.
- ๐ Enter the file extension (e.g..jpg,.mp4) keyword.
- ๐๏ธ In the search results, files will be grouped into categories (Images, Documents, etc.).
If the file is not even located through Files by Google, try:
- ๐ Reboot your smartphone โ sometimes files donโt show up because of cache.
- ๐ฑ Connect your phone to your PC and check memory through Windows Explorer or Mac Finder.
- ๐ ๏ธ Clear the file manager cache in the application settings.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some Xiaomi models (e.g, POCO X3 Pro) after upgrading to HyperOS, the path to downloads may change to /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/Download. Check this folder if the standard path doesn't work.
How to Configure Easy Storage of Downloads in the Future
To avoid searching for files throughout your smartphone, set up a convenient way to save downloads in advance.
1. Change the folder for downloads in the browser:
- ๐ Google Chrome: โฎ โ Settings โ Downloads. โ Download folder.
- ๐ง In Mi Browser: โฎ โ Settings โ Additionally. โ Download folder.
2. sort files automatically:
In the file manager. MIUI You can turn on automatic sorting:

3. Use cloud storage:
