Why Xiaomi doesn’t show files SD-maps - the main reasons
Did you insert a microSD into a Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 or POCO X5 Pro smartphone slot, but the phone can't see it? Or is the card displayed but files are not available? The problem is familiar to many brand users, most often due to improper formatting, file system corruption or hardware limitations of a particular model.
Modern Xiaomi smartphones support memory cards up to 2 TB (starting with MIUI 13), but there are nuances: some budget models (for example, Redmi A1) work only with FAT32, and flagships like Xiaomi 14 Ultra require exFAT for cards over 64 GB. The problem can also lie in the mounting settings - the system sometimes "forgets" to connect the drive after rebooting.
In this article, we will discuss 7 working ways to view content. SD-Xiaomi cards, including hidden folders, data recovery and avoiding errors such as «SD-So we start with the basics and we get to the advanced ones, using the ADB recovery.
Method 1: Viewing through the standard MIUI “Conductor”
The most obvious method is to use the built-in Files app, but even here there are pitfalls: by default, MIUI can hide system folders or not display removable drives in the main menu.
To see SD-map:
- Open the Files app (if not, install the official version from Xiaomi from Google Play).
- Slip on three horizontal lines (☰) top-left.
- In the side menu, select "Device» → «SD-map».
- If the card doesn't show, pull the screen down for an update or reboot the phone.
⚠️ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI 14 Global) the path may be different «SD-map, check the "Category" section» → «Local files».
Check if the microSD is inserted correctly (contacts must be facing upwards)
Reboot your phone (sometimes a hot reboot helps – hold the power button for 10 seconds)
Update the Files app to the latest version on Google Play
Try another file manager (e.g. Solid Explorer)

Method 2: Using Third-Party File Managers
If the standard "conductor» MIUI stubbornly ignores yours SD-Map, install an alternative app. Best options for Xiaomi:
- 📁 Solid Explorer - Supports ROOT-Access and cloud storage, shows hidden files.

- 🛠️ Total Commander – classics with support for plugins (for example, for SFTP).
- 🔗 MiXplorer - optimized for MIUI, picture-mount ISO.
How to check the map with Solid Explorer:
- Download the app from Google Play and open it.
- In the top menu, select “Root Directory” (/).
- Go to the folder. /storage/ → Find a directory with your name SD-cards (usually) XXXX-XXXX).

Important: If the card is formatted in NTFS, Most Android apps will be required ROOT-Reading rights: Xiaomi only supports default FAT32/exFAT.
💡
Before installing a third-party file manager, check its rating and reviews – some applications from unverified sources may contain malicious code masquerading as tools for working with the file manager. SD-map.
Method 3: Connect to a computer via USB
If the phone can’t see the card, but it’s good, try connecting Xiaomi to a PC or laptop.
- 🖥️ Check the integrity of the file system through Windows/macOS.

- 📂 Copy data if the phone blocks access.
Instructions for Windows 10/11:
- Connect Xiaomi to your computer via USB-C cable (preferably original).
- On the phone in the notification curtain, select File Transfer (MTP) mode.
- On PC, open “This Computer” – there should appear two disks: internal memory and SD-map.

One of the most common reasons for the invisibility of the card is the inappropriate file system. Xiaomi, based on Android, officially supports:
- 💾 FAT32 — for cards up to 32 GB (maximum file size – 4 GB).
- 📁 exFAT – for cards from 64 GB to 2 TB (recommended for modern models).
- 🚫 NTFS — not maintained without ROOT (Although some custom firmware adds support).
How to format the card directly on the phone:
- Go to Settings. → Memory. → SD-map.
- Tap it on three points (⋮) in the upper right corner and select "Settings».
- Click “Format” → “Like internal memory” (if you need to expand memory) or “Like a portable device” (for normal use).
- Select the file system: for cards up to 32 GB - FAT32, above - exFAT.
Important: Formatting as internal memory will encrypt the card — it will only work on this phone. To transfer files to other devices, choose a portable device.

| PhotoRec | Windows/Linux/macOS | It works without interface, supports exFAT |
| DiskDigger | Android (with ROOT) | Can scan internal and external memory |
| R-Studio | Windows/macOS | Paid, but with a high recovery rate |
Step-by-step instructions for Recuva:
- Connect. SD-card to PC via card reader (not via phone!).
- Install and open Recuva, select the file type (e.g., Images).
- Specify the disc with yours. SD-map and start scanning.
