Why a memory card may not appear in Redmi and what to do about it
The microSD cards in Xiaomi Redmi smartphones sometimes behave unpredictably, disappearing from the conductor, not being read after the reboot, or being defined as “damaged,” ranging from simple contamination of contacts to file system failure, but 90% of the time, the problem is solved without visiting a service center.
Before you panic, check the obvious: is the card inserted correctly (contacts up!), is the slot filled with dust, and does not overheat the phone. If the memory card is determined by the system, but does not show files, it is the software's fault. If not detected at all, it is likely a hardware problem.
Method 1: Standard MIUI Explorer – Where to look for a memory card
In MIUI firmware (even in the latest versions), the conductor interface is often changed, confusing users to find a memory card:
- Open the Files app (yellow folder icon).
- In the lower menu, tap on the Device section (or Local Storage in older versions).
- Scroll down, there should be a section "SD-map" or "External vault".
If there is no section, but the map is inserted:
- 🔄 Restart your phone - sometimes MIUI "forgets to "mount the drive.
- 📱 Check the storage settings: Settings → Memory. → Settings SD-map.

Instructions for Windows:
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB.
- On the Redmi screen, select File Transfer Mode (not Charge!).
- On a PC, open "This Computer" - the memory card will appear as a separate drive (e.g., Redmi Note 10 (D:)).

What to do if the PC asks to format the card?
Method 3: Third-party file managers are an alternative to MIUI

After installation:
- Open the application and give access to the storage.
- In the menu, select "External Memory" or "SD-map".
- In the settings, enable the display of hidden files (the option "Show hidden").

If the card appears as "empty" but takes up space, check it for viruses. Some Trojans (such as Android.Fakeapp) hide files by replacing them with shortcuts.
Method 4: Viewing through Recovery Mode for Power Users
If the phone doesn’t turn on but the memory card is physically healthy, you can try accessing files via Recovery, a method that is suitable for the Redmi Note 8/9/10 and other models with an unlocked bootloader.
Instructions:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power button + Volume up until the MI logo appears.
- From the Recovery menu, select "Mount" → "Mount SD-card".
- Connect the phone to the PC - the card will appear as a removable disk.
Also check if your model supports a card of this size (in Redmi Note 11 maximum - 1 TB, but in practice, stable work up to 512 GB).
