Your Xiaomi Redmi 6 is slowing, warming up or running out quickly? Most often it is clogged memory, cache and background debris. Even budget smartphones of 2018 are able to work steadily โ if properly serviced. In this article, we will examine all the ways to clean up without losing data, from standard MIUI tools to hidden functions and third-party applications.
Redmi 6 features a modest 3GB of RAM and 32/64GB of ROM that quickly clogs up due to the active use of instant messengers, social networks and games. But don't rush to reset the phone to factory settings! 90% of the time, deep cleaning the system, removing duplicates and optimizing autoboot. We have collected proven methods that work on current versions of MIUI 12-14.
Important: Back up contacts and photos via Mi Cloud or locally on PC before cleaning up โ some methods can delete temporary files associated with user data.
1. Standard MIUI cleaning tools
The manufacturer has already built powerful optimization tools into Redmi 6 firmware, enough for basic cleaning if the phone has recently started to brake.
Open the Security app (the shield icon) โ go to the Optimization tab. Here you will see:
- ๐งน Garbage โ temporary files, remnants of deleted applications, cache of thumbnails.
- ๐ฑ Memory - analysis of RAM load and proposals for release.
- โก Acceleration โ Closing background processes (relevant if the phone is warming).
Click Clean below each point. To do a deep check, tap Deep Clean at the bottom of the screen, the system will scan even the system folders. Attention: this process can take 5-10 minutes and slightly heat up the processor.
๐ก
If you have megabytes of files in your garbage section again, check out applications like Clean Master or CCleaner, which often create their own cache, which MIUI recognizes as garbage.
2. Manual cleaning of the app cache
Cache speeds up programs, but it swells to gigabytes over time, and Redmi 6 is particularly hard at clogging memory.
- ๐ธ Gallery and Google Photos (miniatures, previews, duplicates).
- ๐ฎ Games (PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, Call of Duty โ their cache can weigh 1-3 GB!).
- ๐ฌ Messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp โ store media files in hidden folders).
To clean the cache of individual applications:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Select a program (e.g. Facebook) โ Storage.
- Click Clear Cache (not to be confused with Clear Data โ it will delete accounts!).
Clear the cache of Google Play Services (often weighing 500+MB)
Delete the YouTube and Chrome cache
Check the Download folder for unnecessary APK-file
Clear the Mi Video cache (accumulates previews of videos)
-->
Warning: Do not clear the cache of system applications like com.android.systemui or com.miui.home. This may cause MIUI to crash.
3. Removal of duplicates and unnecessary files
Redmi 6 is prone to duplicate photos because of synchronization with Mi Cloud and Google Photos, to find and delete them:
- Open the Gallery โ tap on three points in the upper right corner โ Control.
- Choose Duplicates or similar photos (depending on the MIUI version).
- Look at the proposed duplicates and remove the unnecessary ones.
Use Explorer to find large files (category tab โ large files).
- ๐ฅ Video files (>100MB).
- ๐ pup DCIM/.thumbnails (Miniatures, weighing hundreds of megabytes).
- ๐ฆ APK-files in Download or MIUI/Download.

4. Optimization of autoboot and background processes
One of the reasons Redmi 6 brakes are the autoload of unnecessary apps, and even after closing, they continue to work in the background, consuming RAM and battery power.
To turn off autoboot:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Select an application (such as AliExpress) โ Autorun.
- Turn off the slider. For full effect, also disable the notification display.
List of apps that can be safely disabled from autoboot:
| Annex | Why can we turn it off? | Saving RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Browser | System browser that is rarely used | ~150MB |
| Mi Music/Mi Video | Replaced with YouTube Music or VLC | ~200MB |
| Cleaner (if installed) | Duplication of the built-in "Security" function | ~80MB |
| Facebook Services | Social media processes, even if you donโt use them | ~300MB |
Warning: Do not disable autoboot for Google Play Services, Miui Daemon or System UI, this will cause system failures.
5. Hidden MIUI features for power users
Redmi 6 has hidden tools that don't show up in the standard menu, like the developer mode, which allows you to turn off animations and speed up the interface.
How to turn on the developer mode:
- Go to Settings. โ The phone.
- Tap 7 times on the MIUI version (you will be notified "You became a developer").

What if after changes in the developer mode, the phone began to glittle?
Another hidden tool is the performance test, to run it:
##4636##In the menu that opens, select Battery Information or Usage Statistics to see which processes are loading the system the most.
6. Third-party applications for deep cleaning
If the built-in MIUI tools didn't work out, try the specialized utilities. The best options for Redmi 6 are:
1. SD Maid (Pro) - removes remnants of deleted applications, empty folders and system debris. Plus: works without root, finds files that you can not see MIUI. Disadvantage: the paid version is worth it ~300 rubles.
2. Files by Google is a free tool from Google to find duplicates, large files and unnecessary APKs. Plus: simple interface, no advertising. Minus: does not clear the cache of system applications.
3. CCleaner (Google Play version only!) is a classic for cache cleaning and autoload management.Warning: don't use the version from the developer's website - it contains malicious code.
How to use third-party cleaners correctly:
- โ First scan the device with built-in tools MIUI.
- โ Do not clean the "System garbage" in the SD Maid if not sure โ it can delete important files.
- โ Donโt use โradiation boostersโ โ they only worsen performance.
๐ก
Side cleaners are convenient, but do not replace manual check. Always check which files the program offers to delete, so as not to lose important data.
7.Extreme measures: reset to factory settings
If Redmi 6 brakes even after all the manipulations, there's a hard reset, which will delete all the data, so first:
- ๐ Make a backup copy through Settings โ Additionally. โ Backup and reset.

- Turn off the device.
- Press the Power button + Volume up for 10 seconds.
- In the recovery menu, select Wipe data/factory reset (control โ volume buttons, choice โ power button).
